The Sportsman, Amberley

Great pub, superb beer and fine food. No obnoxious brats either.

Used this pub since I started sailing out of Dell Quay. I dont usually like Youngs but I must say all the beers here are absolutely superb. Food great and IMHO good value too. Can't understand all the negative comments below. Staff really helpful and friendly even when the pubs packed. Atmosphere great - a real 'olde world' pub.

Finally under new management. Reverted now to a proper pub, not a restaurant with a bar as previously. New landlord isn't a miserable **** either. ;). 3 real ales, with one guest on rotation. Nice reasonably priced country food too. £2.50 a pint on selected beers Monday night. Nice to it back to a decent local.

Wierd comments from omicky1. Always had great food here, beer top quality, clean toilets. Clients friendly, though I must tell the stable lads they're classified as affluent and overweight. I never realised my Transit was a flashy motor either.

This pub just gets better every time I go in. Pub grub is traditional, none of this 'trio of wossnames in a bed of bladeyblah' and plates are huge. Beer is always superb, with a nice range of dark and brown beers, some exotic lagers, and farmhouse cider. Just a note to the poster below - the beers are on a blackboard right in front of the door. ;)

For some reason the beer quality and selection has taken a nose-dive recently. A real shame as the beer here used to be the best for miles around.

Much improved since last visit. The old carpets gone and it's back to sanded wood floors and seats. Good atmosphere, top quality beer, never seen the grimacing old men tho, everybody always seems pretty friendly whenever I go there. Don't know what the reviewer below was on about. I can't think of a better pub in Pulborough. But then there are only 2.

Don't be put off by the outside of the pub. 'Well worn' would probably be an apt description. However the friendly casual staff and the excellent selection of beers and bourbons give this place a 5 star rating from me. Friendly regulars too make this pub well worth a visit.

I had a pizza here and it was awful.

Excellent Pub, top quality beer, friendly staff. Good music, spacious patio garden if you want to smoke. Can't understand the negative comments, didn't think the prices were too bad. I thought the pub has lots of character, but then some people just like to grumble. I must say I had the nicest pint of Dark I've drunk for a long time.

I wouldn't take the reviews below seriously, they look like they've been put up by staff ;). Pub has settled down a bit now, however the youngsters behind the bar have absolutely no idea how to pull a pint. Average.

Second visit after refurbishment. Its OK and beer of a reasonable standard. Food fairly average. Its just lost any atmosphere it once had. Now more similar to a Beefeater than a village pub.

The Shore Inn, East Wittering

Deceptive appearance from the outside, this pub is a gem. Three Real Ales on tap superb quality. Also Cobra on draught if you're a lager drinker. Pool table and homely atmosphere with large cross section of clientele.

The Rose and Crown, Codmore Hill

It no longer exists.

Pub definitely gone downhill recently. Bit dirty, seats ripped and food pretty poor. Beers Ok though.

The Six Bells, Billingshurst

Nice pub, darts, and bands on a Saturday. Beer pretty much average. drinkable but nothing special. Which is a shame because they do some of my favourite ales. Younger staff are very friendly.

Beer much better but service just a dire. Funniest thing ever, an American visitor asked for grated cheese on a baguette. 'Sorry sir' the 'service' replied 'but thats not on the menu, it doesn't come with cheese'. Exit gobsmacked American. I mean, how difficult is it to put grated cheese on a baguette? I think they ought to rename this pub Fawlty Towers.

Under new management for the umpteenth time. What a change! Pub has been redecorated, has a small dining areas which don't intrude on the 'local' feel of the pub. Small but excellent menu, open fire, darts and a gamesroom around the side. Lovely. Harveys, Pride and Youngs all top quality.

The Hope, Carshalton

Lovely friendly traditional pub, really hard to find these days. Top quality beer and the locals make you feel right at home. A+++++

The Rising Sun, Nutbourne

Top quality traditional pub. Beer and food superb + Addlestones cider make this probably the best pub around. Traditional snacks such as jars of cockles, pickled eggs, and a dish of nuts from the sweet jars behind the bar add to the homely atmosphere sadly lacking in most other inns in the area.

Food great, let down by poor beer. Its OK if you stick to bottled though.

The Labouring Man, Coldwaltham

Great place if you like getting shouted at by the loony landlord and assaulted by his drunken wife. If you just want a quite beer though I'd go down the road.

Well worth a visit just for the Beer. I don't often recommend pubs but have to say although this is a 'Fullers' tied house the beer selection is excellent and always top quality. They always have a guest ale changes very often.

New manager! New staff! New menu! Still dire. Beer terrible, food awful. Avoid. Remember those old Courage adverts?
