I often pop in here and have to say it's a good, honest boozer. Busy in season, but also friendly in the quiet winter months, can't fault it for a quick drink.

Visited with a friend during a "get away from it all" weekend, once lunch-time and once in the evening. We both decided it could do with a little bit of improvement to the food, but certainly can't fault the friendly bar-staff. Despite only being "visitors" in the evening we were having a good laugh with one of the staff so we offered him a drink and next thing we know he'd bought us both one back! Had live music that evening too (pretty good) and was certainly THE place to be in the area that night.

Refurbished the new restaurant area is clean and presentable and the food is decent, seemingly to missmatch the older rest of the pub with it's built-in wall seating and single pool table. It's drab beer garden is popular when the weather permits, situate just 50m from the sea.

As one of the few local pubs in the Witterings, the shore has a refreshingly cross-class blend of customers ranging from the local chav contingent, holiday makers (grockles) and the posher locals from West Wittering. Lays on quiz nights on Thursday and food in the beer garden on weekends during the sunny season. It's a decent enough place for a pint or a bite to eat in an area that offers few alternatives.

we own a holiday home nearby so use this pub a lot..its been recently very tastefully refurbed with plenty of outside decking/seating..it can get quite busy in high season weekends with both locals and holiday makers but there is a very nice friendly atmosphere and all are made welcome by the very efficient and friendly owners/managers and bar staff.. service from my experience is great with no obvious favouritsm shown to locals..have yet to try the bar/restaraunt meals though prices seem reasonable and food looks great..

I last crossed this pubs borders 27 years ago, a very pleasing experience now compared to those days, tastefully modernised, superb service, clean, airy and a first rate range of ales with sensible pricing. However, it's only 150 meters from the sea so as you can imagine, it gets in the high season.

To the tourist, when you get bored with the usual stuff in Chichester, continue on down the A286 towards The Witterings and enjoy the difference.
