We visited the White Horse Inn, but hadn't been back for over a year, what a transformation! The pub was lively and buzzing. The food and the service was excellent. The real gem on visiting this time was the total change to the garden. The borders are stocked with shrubs. The pergola has been rebuilt with new a seating area. The whole garden is an absolute joy to sit in. One of the sitting areas gives you a great view of the South Downs. I would highly recommend it to anyone, whether they live local or just visiting the area. We will not be leaving it another year before visiting again. orange123 - 21 Jun 2008 19:23
This is a great friendly pub with ample parking and in a great location - with a view of the south downs. I would recommend the roast dinners on a Sunday or if its on the menu a steak and ale pie or without doubt their burgers - these are a speciality, home made and huge! The pub is lovely and cosy in the winter with the fires and the candle-lit tables. The garden is fab in the summer and a great space for children or a group of walkers. A little expensive and you have to book. lol289 - 17 Jun 2008 14:13
Having been here before and had a great time, went over the weekend with friends and family. Although numbering 11, and with a mix up over the booking, they managed to "squeeze us in" - to the completely empty restaurant area - however chef sent a message to say that as we had not booked we were not allowed starters! Our order then arrived without a Steak pie but with an extra chicken, We sent the chicken back but chef again returned it, saying that we had definately ordered the chicken not the steak pie. The waiter also started to get a little offish at this stage. To be honest most of our party saw the funny side of this complete farse and we carried on regardless. Shame though as always thought of this pub as a gem of a find, but realistically it is only average with this type of service. Clarky72 - 17 Mar 2008 13:54
We ate there last night, and the restaurant was very inviting, the service was excellent, and the food first class. Pumkin, Parsnip and bacon soup to die for! Fullers ales always on tap, and the car park is well laid out on the opposite side of the road, with amazing lighting, accessible footpatch into it - brilliant. highly recommended. colasprite - 14 Feb 2008 11:47
This is our "eating out" pub. The extensive menu changes on a regular basis to offer a different choice from time to time. Yes, some may consider it expensive, but we would say you get what you pay for. The food is excellent. If the regular menu's not for you, then try their real home made burgers which are truly outstanding. On top of this we've never been disappointed with the beers which are mainly Fullers and usually a guest beer which are always well kept. If you want to eat, you need to book as it's very popular and rightly so. Highly recommended. Harris - 22 Jan 2008 15:56
