It's SHUT! Closed down, end of! Only the Falcon left and they were too busy for us to get served / fed! :-( Poor Painswick....

nice pint of speckled hen! quiz night on Tuesdays, free to enter, a bit of fun, although a couple of teams of about 8 seemed to sweep all the prizes... always friendly service.

Pricey beer for location as others have said. Food OK but stops Sunday lunch at 3pm which seemed early, and had run out of lots of dishes when we were there, bad luck I guess.

Nice pub. Good pint of butcombe and lovely food. Eaten here twice now and both times really impressed, fresh hot and tasty food at decent prices. Restaurant area quieter than main bar as you'd expect. Friendly staff, good service, the accommodation was good too when I stayed the first time.

Great folk band in on Friday night, friendly atmosphere despite it being standing room only. One of the bar staff during the afternoon was sat doing diddly squat when all the tables needed clearing, it looked a mess.. shame!

didn't eat here but had a few pleasant drinks. Great view, good atmosphere with some live music on Saturday night, and of course.. the stag!

Cycled here from Padstow along the Camel Trail, very welcome pint and nice enough food, homemade fishcakes. Staff cheery, lots of outisde seating, good location for cyclists.

just fab! could have stayed here all day... food looked great but had eaten picnic en route!!

Had a great evening here. Fabulous food, one of the best meals out I'd had in a long time... freshly cooked inspired specials menu. Good selection of local beer and wines too. Landlord and staff all friendly and welcoming, thoroughly recommended.

This pub is shut and evidently has been for some time! Don't plan a country walk around it, you'll be disappointed.

agree, food is excellent, although plastic sauce sachets have arrived! Car park unfortunately littered with dog poo. Nice pub though in convenient location and friendly staff.

Ye Olde House At Home, Broadwater
super friendly staff, nice beer, pleasent atmosphere.
4 May 2010 20:29
still no proper beer, just nitrogen pumped or bottles. A lager and big screen TV pub.

Decent pint of local ale and unusual local ciders too. Food seems pricey but generous portions. Staff friendly, great location at end of coastal path on way into village.

Chose this pub on basis of previous BITE reviews. Good beer, friendly staff, nice wine too and gorgeous fish and chips! The singing late on Friday night certainly added to the experience.

lovely pub, very friendly staff and nice local art on the walls. Popular with the local surfing tourists and hence busy at weekends (good campsite opposite). Great local beers, some less commonly available on tap. Nice food too, lovely fresh fish.

Agreed, expensive but well kept beers, not much of a cider selection for a South West pub. Food menu looked very average as did the food we saw coming out but didn't try it ourselves. Great location, perfect if camping up the road!

Heard great reviews but was a little disappointed. Nice prices for gastropub food but portion sizes fairly small and lacked any wow factor. Waiting staff seemed very stressed, bar staff run off feet, although wine list not bad and choice of beers on tap pleasant enough . Maybe it was an off night, would like to give them the benefit of the doubt.

nice atmosphere, friendly and buzzing, often can't get a seat. Nice beer and lots of cider. Try tractor fuel, half and half cider and ginger beer! Pies are good but they can only cook 4 at once....

Boat and Anchor Inn, Bridgwater
Not the greatest location close to the M5 but it is quiet enough to sit outside by the canal. Pretty much the only pub on the towpath between Taunton and Bridgwater. You can park up to ride bikes or even launch a canoe from here before you have a pint or some food. We had the Sunday carvery, 8 and not bad value, fair choice of veggie and fish alternatives too. Nice enough pint of Butcombe and there's a parrot too!

Definitely a food pub, but good! Well cooked sea bass fillets, good gastro-pub style starter selection, my friends' steak did have to go back for being cremated rather than rare though... Wine list covers all bases, nice part of Doom Bar ale, worth a visit.

Very eccentric landlord, teenage waiting staff somewhat aloof, however nice pint after a good walk locally, great location! Food is pricey but it's better quality than most pub grub, fresh and seasonal, if a little on small portion size.

Great location near the beach but staff way too grumpy for a Friday night. Didn't eat but over half the pub laid up for food, wine by the glass very expensive and nothing special for my s ( or his to be precise), pint of abbot not bad but all in all a bit dissappointing.

The Crusting Pipe, Covent Garden
great atmosphere, buzzy and friendly, excellent staff with a decent wine selection, and the tapas plate for nibbles was good value!
26 Apr 2009 21:20
friendly staff, warm fire, decent pint of 6X but pricey soft drinks!
8 Mar 2009 17:36
skanky facilities, odd decor, fake old plastic flowers on the tables, miserable staff, big smelly dog in doorway....
14 Feb 2009 13:34
Very nice pub, good pub standard food. Landlord and landlady lovely people, laid back and friendly but a bit slow with bar service. Car park was full, but no tea towel waving landlord!!
14 Feb 2009 13:32
Echoing other reviews, cold coffee, flat beer and slow service! This place is only still open because of it's location, not it's own reputation!

The Live and Let Live, Whitbourne
Nice pub for a pint! Visited after horse riding on a Saturday whilst on a weekend away with the girls. Beautiful part of the world. Very friendly, good local cider but no local beer on tap.

The Kings Arms, Stow on the Wold
Didn't eat in here but almost wished we had.. lovely pub decor, simple and clean, well laid out. Decent beer - Abbot and green king IPA, good wine selection, friendly staff... nice location.. would go back.

The Queens Head, Stow on the Wold
Good local pub...fabulous staff - very friendly. Good beer and decent enough wine selection. Food was a fairly average, agree with the ale pie pastry problem! Nice chips and great deserts...

The Eagle And Child, Stow On The Wold
Nice food but over priced, slower than average service and a few hiccups / forgotten items but generally a good night. The gourmet slates are to be recommended, as is the breaded haddock and chips!

The Hollow Bottom, Guiting Power
Sunday carvery. 11.95 per head.
good value, lovely food, very friendly staff but a bit cramped in the dining room. Shame not more outside space, would go again.

The Falcon, Painswick
Friday night mid May, only remaining pub in the village, 8pm. Couldn't get anything to eat despite easily finding a table as they were too busy! Shame, food looked OK but small portions agreed, wine list extensive but pricey.... went up the road to the Royal William... LOVELY!
