please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

When the heavens opened on Jubilee Friday, we sought refuge in the Globe as none of the pubs on the quayside appealed. Quantock QPA, Fine Tuned Langport Bitter, St Austell Proper Job, Black Sheep Monty Python's Holy Grail and Dartmoor Jail Ale were the handpulls; the Jail was in fine order so we stopped for a couple. A good find.

Excellent back street local. Were made to feel at home and soon settled in to a conversation about our greyhound. Beer was ery good, Crop Circle and trelawney. Good selection of ales availabl.

Weymouth has its fair share of decent boozers and this is certainly one of them. It seemingly has its fair share of regular along with a handful of visitors too. The bar staff were very friendly. Some of the customers were a little eccentric. I'm guessing I also saw the guy in the hat, complete with a red blazer and what I believe was a truncheon underneath. This guy wasn't singing, but was taking a key interest in the Lily Allen tracks on the jukebox. He looked a little like Sir Bruce Forsyth! Ales were Flack Manor Flack's Double Drop, Sharps Doom Bar, Butcombe Bitter, Dartmoor Jail Ale & Clearwater Devon Darter. The cider was Thatchers Heritage. The main bar is small and there appeared to be another room with a pool table. There is an interesting selection of scooter pictures and a Weymouth FC shirt at the one end. Nice pub with plenty of character and characters!

Nice friendly welcome from the keen staff. Very good pint of Proper Job. Visit spoiled by the idiot twat in a hat at the end of the bar who thinks he can sing (He can't!).

My first visit this year, but have used it for several years when visiting Weymout. As others have said, a good old fashioned local, friendly regulars, pleasant staff. Any appreciator of good hand drawn bitter will be spoiled for choice here. I had an excellent couple of pints of Doom Bar, but there were four or five others to choose from.

It's the nearest pub to the Custom House Quay, if you're visiting on a boat, and the wifi is free and very fast and reliable.

Visited on Tuesday this week. Agree with Longitude, great proper locals pub with friendly staff and clientele. Good a Beer, would thou roughly recommend a visit to this hidden gem of a pub just off the quay.

An old-fashioned, friendly and unpretentious back street local with welcoming staff and a good range of well-kept ales at reasonable prices.

A really nice surprise! A very neat clean pub with a few decent regulars serving five ales(A Lyme Regis Town Mill Brewery ale was on ) on handpump in top class condition. A throw back to how pubs were and certainly should be,welcoming , gimmick free, clean, serving a well kept range of ales. I spied a games room off to the left hand side. The Globe and the Boot are worth a trip to Weymouth. The Duke of Corwnwall and perhaps the Red Lion are not as good but worth a try.

A very nice little local focusing on the basics - good beer and a welcoming atmosphere.

Popped in with a Dorset based mate last Saturday, pleasent, decent beer, a touch "local" and a hint of "frontroom" in style

The best local pub in Weymouth. Great pub, friendly staff, top beer and cider. I have recently changed from the boot, which has gone down hill. If you love great beer, and a friendly atmosphere the Globe Inn is the place.
Bathmatt - 8 Dec 2011 14:31
Thought this place could not get better but it has - now six real ales and three ciders available and all beautifully kept and presented.
A real gem of a pub

A gem of a back street local! Friendly staff and with a couple of well kept cask ales on at 2.65 a pint.

Clean, comfortable and friendly. Three real ales on: Jail Ale, Pointing Percy and Doom Bar. Tried the Jail Ale and Pointing Percy which were in good condition plus the prices were very reasonable.

Friendly atmosphere. Good beer at reasonable prices - we tried the Doom Bar and Jail Ale, both tasted great. One of the better pubs on Weymouth's Dark Side !

we moved to weymouth in june this year and we tried many pubs to find what we could call a local. This 1 definitely came out on top. Although we must pass many other hostelries this 1 really is the best in weymouth (and there is a lot of choice). The gaffer is realatively new but he welcomes everyone and makes them feel comfortable and we now feel at home here. The barstaff are always friendly and they seem to know within a couple of visits what you want to drink which is what you want from a local isnt it?. The beer is excellant well looked after, the place is spotlessly clean, everyone seems friendly it has a free jukebox, we cant praise it enough. Whenever your in weymouth you must go in.

Jail Ale was good and the pub itself is bright and clean.

Now a totally revitalised and fully refurbished hostelry - when the visiting card says "A proper pub - real ales a specialiaty - one of Weymouth's few remaining traditional pubs" it really does what it says on the tin.
Three superb real ales (including Jail Ale and Doombar) always available plus the threat/promise of a regular guest ale.
Well worth another visit.

Called in three times w/e 7th August. What a change from my last visit. We were made to feel very welcome by staff and customers.
The new guvnor seems to be trying very hard re-establish the ambience maintained by Jan & Ron..............good luck to you, you seem to be succeeding.
We will definitely see you again on our next visit to Dorset.
muzzyofrotherham - 10 Aug 2010 12:37
totally different now - new owners since end of 2009 who have transformed it into a friendly comfortable pub and as its now a free house has a good range of very well kept real ales (not the JS rubbish you get in the rest of the town).
davewp - 22 Feb 2010 10:59
Blackboard outside the door offered a vety warm welcome. From previous experience we did not take up the offer.
muzzyofrotherham - 14 Aug 2009 20:43
Visited the Globe to discover that Jan and Ron had left! Totally different pub now. No atmosphere, grubby and dingy. Young girl behind the in need of a customer service course. Come back Jan and Ron
VodkaandCoke - 20 Jun 2009 07:45
The only ale they had on (London Pride) had run out.
MankyBadger - 11 May 2008 15:01
Closed.Shame I expect the building will be converted into flats.
RUMRAT - 2 Mar 2008 11:31
Possibly the best pub in town. Beer always good, welcome always friendly.
beerbob66 - 13 Sep 2007 22:15
my idea of a traditonal local, clean, tidy, welcoming, nice reasonably priced beers.
clangersmate - 25 Jun 2007 15:51
This was the third pub we visited on our recent trip to Weymouth although it was the first proper one.

Very good pint of London Pride. proper landlord and landlady as opposed to a manager.

Not sure if it's the best downtown pub but it's certainly up there.

johnkn7 - 3 Jan 2007 19:42
Small and rather yokley. Interesting 2 see pride in Weymouth though. 6/10
fat_beer_badger - 26 Aug 2006 12:46
Jan and Ron are still the guvners and run a tight ship, superb. London Pride is recommended. This is a proper pub, not a caf, or a pub pretending to be a restaurant, they dont do meals, in spite of the signage outside. The whole place is spotless, the natives are friendly (mostly) and the whole ensemble is top order. This is the best downtown pub!
Amicus700 - 22 Apr 2006 16:57
super pint of London Pride, great landlord and landlady
