The Mash Tun, Brighton

Dirty, with staff too cool for school, but in a great location, an outside area in the sunshine. Bad food though and if you are there in the night time, BEWARE. They will call last orders and serve you, they will call time and then you will HAVE to leave within 2 minutes.. with full pints or not. They do not care. This week with friends from out of town we were chucked out with full pints less than 2 minutes after time was called.. pitying looks were given as explanation.

The Park Crescent, Brighton

Great pub.. a plus or minus.. is that the manager stands on the bar drunk at the end of the night shouting and then ushers you out.. fun times!?!?!?!?

The Eddy, Brighton

Lacking in atmosphere, awful food, awful service. Amazingly (pre-smoking ban) i had seen the staff smoking BEHIND the bar. oops.

The Evening Star, Brighton

In a league of it's own, great ales from a lovely brewery it's just a shame the space is limited. And sometimes if you frequent it in the daytime you can be greeted with unfriendly regulars, this is worth facing though.

Grand Central, Brighton

Great beer garden on the roof in the sun shine, expensive food and beer but lovely if you catch it in between the commuters and the local office types.

Fountainhead, Brighton

Unfortunately, although the pub is amazingly decked out, all new and great reclaimed wood tables (or so it seems) the food is very disappointing and the staff seem to thin that they are cooler than ice. Therefore the service lacks and the food lacks so unless you are there for drinks and atmosphere only you will be dissapointed.

The Foundry, Brighton

Now winter has gone and the fire is no longer needed this place is great. Get there early to get a seat, only problem is limited seating but if you get one it's lovely.

Belle Vue, Norwich

Great value food and very friendly staff, lovely slightly out of town pub that has a true heart. The early bird specials cannot be taken for granted. Cant complain about the cheap and cheerful atmosphere with true stuffed animals and antique plates on the wall, very authentic atmosphere.

The Playhouse, Norwich

Amazing amazing friendly lovely pub with the theatre attached, friendly staff wicked decor, different nights on every week. This place makes you feel like one of the family. Plus the outside area by the river makes an amazing setting. good DJ's in a small space. Cant fault this place.

The Prince Albert, Brighton

vibrant and lovely makes you feel like you're part of a 'scene' alas not quite such good service as a couple of years ago.. i fear it's a victim of it's own success.. being so close to the station it must not have to try too hard.

The Globe, Brighton

Very busy, hard to get a seat but lovely food and atmosphere upstairs, downstairs can be hit and miss but if you hire it out it's ace.

The Victory Inn, Brighton

Such a big pub with potential lovely outside sun trap area but a bit too near the book-makers in location and custom base (not always making a comfortable atmosphere!). It's a wee bit dirty inside customer service is lacking as often feels like staff are happier getting drunk than serving customers.

The Garden House, Norwich

Amazing garden so many good times, good service even if it's busy.

The Quadrant, Brighton

Since re-opening this pub cant quite seem to work out what it is or where it's going. It seems to have a new manager every other month. Which is confusing as it is such a central location and it has such nice modern decor. Friday night seems to fill the place with west street punters and brings down the tone of the place. On a plus side, if you're in the park nearby they let you use the toilets if you ask nicely.

The Bath Arms, Brighton

Beautiful decor it's such a shame this place doesn't get any sun. The food is so tasty but a little expensive, very gastro pub and you pay near restaurant prices prices for it. It's nice to see another proper pub in this part of town. It's unfortunate that the proper pubs in this area are in a built up part and thus don't have beer gardens.

The Hartington, Brighton

The roast was tasty.. but not what i expect from a roast.. small sliced roast veg and slices of roast potatoes.. we had roast beef which was lovely but the roast chicken looked like it was in an insipid white sauce not gravy but may have been very tasty.. and it was a little over priced..at 9.. but lovely garden in the sun.. the staff didn't seem to quite know what was going on but i think that was more the confused sunday clientelle and not the staffs fault. Definately overpriced sunday roast, i was glad i shared one but tasty. And it was nice looking.

The Barley Mow, Brighton

after seeing good reports from other people i gave this place a second chance... alas.. i was again disappointed.. it still smells of wee and my friends agree and the food is still disappointing .

The Black Lion, Brighton

not really sure where this fits, food is NOT cheap but fairly tasty, although seems to be the sum total of budget ingredients (mushroom burger on a McDonalds bun @ 8.50?!), drinks are priced at just above brighton average but served by people too busy checking how they look. must be busy at weekends to stay open i suppose? lovely decor but too cool for school springs to mind....

The Sussex Yeoman, Brighton

their high prices are no longer justified by good quality. expensive and disappointing, i'm not a fan of the new decor - a black wall sloppily painted ain't classy.

not inclined to return. the cost is just too prohibitive!

The Foundry, Brighton

now it's been redone as Foundry it has alovley relaxing atmosphere, open fire that kept us more than entertained with its smoke-producing properties and bless the bar staff who did their best to keep it going! good comfy chairs and nice beer. It's a great place to bring visitors to.

The Eagle, Brighton

awful food at high prices. awful staff serving it with a self-satisfied smirk.

dire.

p.s. what the hell is it with the sofa being for exclusive use of the staff's fan-club?! get a grip management and sort this place out!

17 Feb 2009 21:13

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

done out in a lovely manner! good beers and staff, but maybe needs some time putting in to get the food up to par... much better than the god-awful eagle over the road!

17 Feb 2009 21:10

The Evening Star, Brighton

bit small, makes up for it with beautiful ales, friendly staff and nice punters. worth a visit!

17 Feb 2009 21:06

The Earth and Stars, Brighton

good produce, but sadly extremely small portions to the extent value goes out the window. The staff don't seem to know/care what they're doing, but nice decor.

17 Feb 2009 21:05

The Barley Mow, Brighton

smells like toilets. food is very poor- very disappointed after hearing good things about this pub. I will not go back.

17 Feb 2009 20:59

The Fiddlers Elbow, Brighton

Brilliant Quiz, not too hard but challenging and especially fun in a town awash with lame quiz nights. Food is tasty and simple, just what I like from this kinda place. Friendly staff serving good drink at great prices. cheap guinness, and it warms my heart to be in an atmosphere where everyone is smiling.

tip top.
