Lovely food in here lunch time. guinness awesome too. Service good. Go for it boys and girls. rainbowian - 5 Apr 2013 21:26
Went here about 12.30 on a Thursday in April, staff were friendly, Guinness was fine, had a pulled pork sandwich that came with nice chips and great onion rings. Toilets were spotless (if pubs can't be bothered to clean the bits you can see what happens to the lines & kitchens???). By 1 the place was full of people having lunch. Will stop here again next time i'm down. Beernotjustintheevening - 22 May 2012 15:04
Now hooked up with the 'BBQ Shack'- a chap who pit BBQs classics such as beef brisket and pulled pork http://www.bbqshack.co.uk/index.html. Mon-Sat there is a menu of meat based sandwiches and grills, on Sunday a 'Southern' themed roast menu combines BBQ Shack meats with Southern style sides. I went for a sample platter of the meats on offer which was great, but the meat doesn't have that 'freshly BBQed' zing as it is slow cooked, delivered to the pub in the morning and then finished off to order, so it is a bit drier than you might expect. The excellent BBQ sauces on offer do provide adequate lubrication however. The pub itself hasn't been freshened up for a while and is starting to fell a little bit scruffy, beer selection has always been poor and remains so- Arundel Trident and WJ King 'Brighton Best' (brewed in Horsham) were the only two on offer- both deadly dull and pretty grim. Clearly no passion for beer given the choice of great local beers they could stock (as demonstrated in The Evening Star and The Spotted Dog). So overall, still not a bad choice if you find yourself in the centre of town, and the new BBQ food provides a reason to visit, but there are quite a few pubs in town doing things better and the poor beer selection is a significant blot in this pub's copybook. napoleon_dynamite - 12 Feb 2012 12:50
Quirky and welcoming, with trendy patrons. King's Brighton Best was in good condition. Handy for this part of town. Didn't try the food but it seemed interesting enough to tempt a further visit. richythemole - 2 Jan 2012 18:51
Visited the pub on Saturday 30th. Tried the "blonde" real ale and wasn't disappointed. My wife enjoyed her red wine too. Pub was filled with a mixture of local types and tourists and seemed a good mix. Only downside was the high prices for the beer. Mr_ESB_Harry - 31 Jul 2011 21:02
