The Marble Arch, Manchester

Fantastic pub! Had a day out in Manchester city centre. Of the 5 pubs we tried this was our fav. The ales were top rate (according to my partner)and said it was one of the best pubs he has been into. We absolutely ADORED the food, the mushroom and avocado filled ciabata with chips was oustanding, gastro pub food in a very traditional pub. Top marks

Metropolitan Bar, Baker Street

Had an absolutely dreadful experience once Xmas there, hence it has been in my all time top 10 worst pubs. It seemed full of 'south london gangsters' as I so elequantly put it that night, or 'vertical drinkers' It was just awful, so crowded it would have been surely a fire hazard, but then again, the more they cram in the more of the u know whats they make. I remember being so pissed off at the place we went to a pub across the road and met some very dodgy Russians...oh a night to remember...NOT !

Punchbowl & Ladle, Feock

I have a contrasting experience. I was there about a year ago and had the most fabulous time. The pub itself was really nice. It was quite busy so we had to wait for a table, but we were seated after a short while. We ordered our food which came in reasonable time and my goodness, the quality was just the best! Beautiful scallops..mmmm. Yes it was a tad over-priced but isnt it a gastro pub? You would certainly expect to pay what we did in any good place. I have absolutely no grumbles, and would recommend it to anyone. It has a Michelen star I believe.

Westgate Inn, Canterbury

One of the nicer pubs in Canterbury. Isn't it amazing once you get rid of the nasty ciggies inside, the pub straightaway takes on such a nicer feel? it's a lovely Wetherspoons (the one in Forest Hill, take note!) I have never had a prob with being served always seems loads of staff and lots of lovely places to sit, again, never had a problem with finding a seat either. All in all a nice place to pop in for a pint.

Cafe Belge, Canterbury

This is not a pub, it is a Belgian restaurant. But saying that, it is one of my fav eating out (and drinking) in Canterbury. The food is just simply a delight, we always have one of the '50 ways with Mussels' and at just under a 10er is good value, you also get chips and french bread. I would recommend the mussels in red thai curry. They have an amazing selection of beers and wines, their fruit beers on tap is highly recommended. I have been about 5 times, never ever been dissappointed. I believe they have a branch in Brighton as well. Well done to this wonderful place. Excellent service, good atmosphere and nice people. Not overly expensive generally, though some of the specialty beers can be a bit pricey.

I happily give it 10 out of 10

The Richmal Crompton, Bromley

.do Wetherspoons actually pay the local Police for their time?? I have never been in there fri/sat nights and I don't ever wish to, the sight of the cop vans is enough. The sooner they make it a completely non-smoker, the better, still got that scummy element because of it. Was in there one sunday afternoon, a group of blokes out of their head drunk and a bit abusive, and it was only 3pm, no staff getting them out, oh no, that would mean loss of profits!! Saying all of that, I agree with earlier, get their early and you Ok, but forget weekend evenings.

The Haunch of Venison, Salisbury

Been here a few times, first about 5 years ago and never forgot it, came across it again this year..Just love it. Its very old and very trad. The drinks were good. We have never eaten here and such a shame someone had a bad experience.

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

They shot part of that London-set film directed by Madonna's uver 'arf in there, Snatch (...I think?) I use to work on Hatton Garden so went in a few times. Really great pub. Old fashioned and traditional, the way a pub should be. The guy behind the bar was a character, my uver alf asked for a glass of wine for me, don't think they had any in...found it really funny :-) Good ambience, general all round good trad pub. Well worth a visit

The Turf Tavern, Oxford

Loved this pub I must say. I am a real "atmosphere and oldie worldie" type of pubbie person and I enjoyed my couple of visits there. Yes it does get packed in the summer with loads of tourists, but well worth the visit.

The Maltings, York

Great pub in every respect. Have never eaten there but apparently the chillie chips are to die for! The booze was good, great selection of ales and one of the nicest rose wines I've drunk in a pub. The staff were really friendly. The atmosphere was nice and had a varying mix of people in there. The food being served look fab! Def recommendation to anyone visiting York.

The Sloop Inn, St Ives

I have been to this pub on a few occasions and have to say it is in my top 5 (for this country at least). The food was fantastic, especially the Thai green fish curry, yummy!! The drinks were good and reasonably priced. The best part was simply being there, the atmosphere is always really really nice and it is always a pleasure to visit. I feel it is one of the nicer pubs in St. Ives. I believe it is the oldest pub in the county? Would recommend a visit to anyone going to Cornwall. We never had any problems with the staff when we last visited.

The Pigs Ear, Chelsea

One visit and was impressed! Overpriced but really nice wine. I noticed in one of those Royal telly progs that William and Kate have drunk there, I can see why! Not exactly a magnet for your south london Wetherspooner, it's a bit upmarket. But felt welcomed and not out of place, very nice, though was packed when we went there.

The Alexandra, Penge

This pub is a very special and magical place. One of those stories from a book, met my now partner on a train from Victoria, got off at Penge (where we both lived) and went for a drink there as it was the closet pub open before it shut for the night. It was quiet, we had one drink then they did a lock in (without asking us, they must have assumed we needed some quality time..) and we were left to get to know each other, 2 hours later they chucked us out..anyway, the rest is history and we are still together, 2 years and 3 months later. If it wasn't for this pub we may not have had the opportunity to know each other. Other than that, it is a regulars pub, and we havn't been back since !

Wetherspoons, Victoria Station

..why are they always so understaffed??? Surely they must realise by now the place gets packed to the ceiling and at certain times they shut one of the bars. I find it can be dirty and unwelcoming. One evening a few weeks back I wanted a glass of Chardonnay, they only seemed to have the house white (fetzer, ugh, utter crap) and when i was umming as to what to have, the guy behind was tutting and getting impatient..appalling!! I noticed one of their fridges was out too, been like that for a while, maybe they can't afford an engineer! On the other hand if you are desperate for a reasonably priced drink before you get on your train home then it's just about OK, I used to use it regularly a few years ago, but seems to have gone a bit downhill. Also, I have noticed that the Weatherspoons in central London are more expensive then outside London. A round there a week, glass of Villa Maria and a bottle of euro beer came to over 7, so more like typical central london pub prices.

The Capitol, Forest Hill

...LOL.I was thinking about one of the worst pubs I have been too and thought of this one, but it seem's I won't be the first to slate it. To put it simply, it is DREADFUL! Full of smokey old men and chavs, just disgusting, I would not recommend this to ANYONE! There are much nice Wetherspoons about, why oh why do they keep it so awful?? It could really be made into a nice place. It could start by making it NO SMOKING, that would clear out the awful element in one fell swoop! The nicest Wetherspoons seem to be the non-smoking ones...J D Wetherspoon PLC, take note! I think they intend to make all their pubs non-smoking, why don't they do it immediately!

The Murrell Arms, Barnham

I have been to this pub on a few occasions and have to say it's one of my fav's. I am a cat lover and the cat there is just adorable! Really friendly. Old fashioned and quaint, i believe it has been in the same hands since 1964..not many pubs now can boast that accolade! If you are looking for a pub the way they use to be, then you won't go far wrong here, well worth a visit.

The Market Porter, Borough

.My boyfriend who is a member of CAMRA and who works round the corner introduced me to this pub. The range of ales is fab and it is in a brilliant location. Great on a Saturday when the market is in full swing and there is always a wide range of punters in there. Service always good too. Highly recommended as one of THE best pubs in London, for more than just one reason

The Old Mill (Dunnings Mill), East Grinstead

I have been to this pub on 2 occasions, absolutely love it! The interior was excellent, a real proper nice pub...Great one to take any visiting tourists too. My 13 always remembered the chocolate ice cream he had there, he says it was the best he's ever tasted. The other food was good but not over brilliant, just a very lovely place to come for a drink, highly recommended
