The Laurel Inn, Robin Hood's Bay

Beer is very expensive, but Old Peculiar was the best pint I've had in a long time. They obviously really know how to look after it.

Nice and quiet when I was in middle of last week. Cosy rooms. Friendly staff, without being too friendly.

The White Horse, York

Just awful. Full of thugs and big TVs.

The Clachaig Inn, Clachaig

Well kept beer despite being off season - we were the only ones in. Kitchen produced lovely food - boar sausage casserole was very filling - just what you want after a day's walking.

The Martyrs Bay, Iona

Looks like a bungalow from outside, feels like a portacabin inside. No atmosphere. No real beer. Overpriced food.

Grog and Gruel, Fort William

Nice atmosphere (lovely visiting dog when we were there...) and good choice of ale. Food excellent quality but maybe a bit pricey.

The Landor, Clapham

Nice atmosphere. 2 or 3 real ales on tap - can't quite remember as I was drinking lovely Hobgoblin.

The Bon Accord, Glasgow

Plenty of choice of real ale and some real cider too. Serves food which is decent enough quality and pretty cheap. All 4 ales which I tasted were well kept. Went on a Monday night and was surprised to find it reasonably full with drinkers and eaters.

The Churchill Hotel, Ambleside

No nice beer and over-loud music. A 'stand-up drinking' sort of pub with few tables & chairs. When empty this leads to urban-barn like atmosphere.

The Crown Inn, Church Enstone

Lovely Sunday lunch, good beer and comfortable modern decor. Friendly staff.
