Highlander, Hitchin

THIS IS A PUB THAT IS AIMED MORE AT DINERS THAN DRINKERS ,WHICH IS A SHAME AS IT FALLS BETWEEN TWO STOOLS.. IT SHOULD BE ONE OR THE OTHER..!

THE BEER WAS PRETTY NONDESCRIPT(IT IS GREENE KING!) BUT THE AMBIENCE WAS OKAY.

The Sunrunner, Hitchin

I WENT EARLIER TODAY AND HAVE TWO COMPLAINTS :-

1. I HAD A PINT OF OLD GROWLER THAT WAS TOO WARM,

2. 3.85 A PINT....! THIS IS HITCHIN.! NOT THE WEST END AT THESE PRICES YOU'LL DRIVE ALL YOU'RE TRADE AWAY....!

THINK ABOUT IT...!

Red Lion, Great Offley

I visited today after a few years absence and was pleased to see that this is still a good quality pub.

The meal I had and the cask ale I drunk were very good and the service was both pleasant and polite.

Give it a go...

The Maidens Head, Whitwell

I visited last weekend and found a lovely old pub on the interior with a nice banked garden at the back.

Being a Mcmullens pub I had a pint of country which was in good nick but could of being just a bit more chilled.

Apart from that minor gripe, well worth a visit.

Euston Tap, Euston

I visited about a month ago and was hugely impressed with the beer range, price and quality of the beer on offer.

Admittedly, it is a small and pokey place, but that is more than offset by my comments above.

Good luck and good drinking!

The Andover Arms, Hammersmith

This pub has gone from real ale haven to to rea

Further to my recent comment this place has lost it's way.

The same barman was in there and is totally clueless about beer...

I asked for london pride and he tried to pour me a pint of lager.....

Give me strength.....

The Crown and Sceptre, Shepherds Bush

I visited the other day prior to a gig and can only speak in the positive about this place.

if your in the area search this place out...you wont regret it.....

Ploughman, Werrington

this pub has been voted the CAMRA local pub of the year and I was curious.

I have to say this was a friendly, community pub that served good cask ale at a reasonable price and the staff and regulars were pleasant and polite.

good luck to you all....

The Andover Arms, Hammersmith

I VISITED THE ANDOVER AGAIN AFTER A COUPLE OF YEARS AWAY AND FOUND SOME THINGS I DID NOT LIKE.

FIRSTLY, THE REFIT INSIDE MAKES IT LOOK LIKE A VEGETARIAN CAFE,AND SECONDLY AND MORE IMPORTANT WHERE THE HELL HAS THE DRAUGHT ESB GONE?

WHEN I ASKED THE BARMAN FOR ESB HE WAS TOTALLY PERPLEXED..

DO YOURSELVES A FAVOUR AND GET THE ESB BACK...

The Wheatsheaf, Dunstable

I did pop in yesterday just for old times sake and must admit the current owners have given it a good revamp and update but alas it is personally not for me.

They are trying to appeal to a younger crowd of drinkers and not to old fossils like myself and good luck to them...long live the sheaf....!!

The Palmerston Arms, Peterborough

A GREAT PUB WITH GREAT BEER...

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE PUB CAT?

18 Oct 2010 03:48

The Wheatsheaf, Dunstable

my previous review was rather doom laden as i now believe the sheaf is reopened as a pub and not turned into flats as i ominously predicted...!!

please post a review of the new sheaf and let us know what its like...!!

The Cross Keys, Harpenden

I visited the other day and I am glad to say this is not the same awful place it used to be years ago.

when I was served it was with politeness and respect and good beer.

I sat in the lovely beer garden and thoroughly enjoyed my pint.

Well done for turning a corner from the grim old days when outsiders were not welcome.......

11 Oct 2010 03:56

The Carpenters Arms, Harpenden

This is is a nice, pleasant pub in the southdown area of town with plenty of outdoor seating.

However, on my visit the other day i found it a very expensive pub...a pint of abbot and a pint of crouch vale...6.65....

This is not the west end...it is suburban hertfordshire..

11 Oct 2010 03:43

The Wishing Well Inn, Bourne

I visited yesterday for the first time in ages and was pleasantly surprised.

There is a new landlord here who is very enthusiastic about his beer and the real ale quality has improved markedly since my last trip.

Keep up the good work and you'll soon be back in the good beer guide.

Brookes, Luton

i visited yesterday for the first time since this place reverted to its old name and oh dear...

you can get a pint of cask ale for 1.95 on a monday but thats as good as it gets..

idont think i'll bother going here again.

14 Sep 2010 12:01

The Fox, Kinsbourne Green

I VISITED THERE RECENTLY AND FOUND THE BAR STAFF PLEASANT, THE OTHER PATRONS RUDE AND SNOBBISH,THE REAL ALE FAR TOO COLD AND FAR TOO EXPENSIVE AND THE INTERIOR ABSOLUTELY GARISH AND HORRIBLE...

APART FROM THAT IT WAS OK.......

6 Sep 2010 04:14

The Wheatsheaf, Dunstable

I PASSED BY HERE THE OTHER DAY AND IT LOOKS LIKE THE SHEAF HAS MET THE SAME FATE AS THE BULL ACROSS THE ROAD....I.E. CLOSED DOWN PERMANENTLY AS A PUB ONLY TO BE CONVERTED TO RESIDENTIAL USE....SUCH A SHAME.

R.I.P. THE WHEATSHEAF.

6 Sep 2010 03:58

The Gardener's Call, Luton

A MUCH IMPROVED PUB IN RECENT YEARS AND WELL WORTH A VISIT.

6 Sep 2010 03:45

The White House, Luton

THIS MUST BE ONE OF WETHERSPOONS WORST PUBS IN THEIR CHAIN ACROSS THE UK.

IT OPENS AT 7 IN THE MORNING AND ATTRACTS ALL THE POND LIFE AND WINOS IN THE AREA FOR A CHEAP BREAKFAST AND DRINK AND THEY REMAIN THERE MOST OF THE DAY ONLY TO BE REPLACED AT NIGHT BY CHAVS LOOKING FOR A FIGHT.

I HAVE BEEN IN OTHER WETHERSPOON ESTALISHMENTS ACROSS THE UK AND THEY ARE BETTER RUN AND BETTER MANAGED THAN THIS PLACE.

WORD TO THE WISE....REVAMP THE PLACE AND BE MORE SELECTIVE WHO YOU ALLOW TO CROSS THE THRESHOLD OF YOUR ESTABLISHMENTS.....I MIGHT COME BACK IN IF YOU DO....

5 Sep 2010 02:03

The George II, Luton

I VISITED LAST WEEKEND AND THERE WERE MORE STAFF THAN CUSTOMERS....I WAS THE CUSTOMER......IT WAS SUNDAY NIGHT....

ENUFF SAID....

31 Aug 2010 03:50

The Bricklayers Arms, Luton

THIS IS A PUB I NEVER FEEL COMFORTABLE IN.

WHEN YOU WALK IN THERE IS A HUDDLE OF REGULARS CROWDED AROUND THE BAR WHO DO NOT MOVE OUT OF THE WAY TO LET YOU SEE WHAT REAL ALE IS ON SALE AND IF YOU ARE FORTUNATE THAT ONE OF THEM STIRS A FEW INCHES EITHER WAY YOU ARE A GREETED BY A COLD PATRICIAN MEMBER OF STAFF WHO SERVES YOU UP A LESS THAN GOOD PINT.

I DO NOT KNOW HOW THIS PLACE GETS IN THE GOOD BEER GUIDE EVERY YEAR...I REALLY DO NOT KNOW.....

..

31 Aug 2010 03:13

The Wheelwright Arms, Luton

THIS USED TO BE A REAL ALE PARADISE DISPENSING THE FULL RANGE OF FULLERS ALES BUT THESE DAYS ONLY HAS LONDON PRIDE ON TAP AND IT IS DECIDEDLY ROPEY.

IT SEEMS TO OPERATE MORE AS A B AND B FOR CONTRACT WORKERS THAN AS A REAL ALE PUB.....SUCH A SHAME.

31 Aug 2010 02:51

The Great Northern, Luton

THIS PUB HAS ONLY ONE REAL ALE ON SALE,ST.AUSTELL TRIBUTE BUT IS SUPERBLY KEPT AT A SUPERB PRICE-2.30.

IF EVER YOUR IN LUTON NEAR THE STATION POP IN AS IT IS THE ONLY FREEHOUSE IN LUTON,AS WELL AS BEING THE SMALLEST PUB IN TOWN.

GO THERE....

31 Aug 2010 02:39

The Wheatsheaf, Luton

THIS IS NO LONGER A PUB.

ITS NOW A TESCO EXPRESS STORE.

2 Aug 2010 17:39

The Princess Louise, Holborn

A SAM SMITHS GEM IN THE CENTRE OF LONDON.

RESTORED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO TO ITS FORMER GLORY AND WORTH A VISIT ON TWO COUNTS:-

ITS WONDERFUL INTERIOR (INCLUDING ITS GENTS LOOS-FINE VICTORIAN TOILET FITTINGS.)

ITS FINE CHOICE OF QUALITY ALES ON CASK AND BOTTLE.

VISIT.

1 Aug 2010 04:33

Admiral Wells, Peterborough

I KNOW AM FOLLOWING THE MAN WITH HIS LONG LIST OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT HIS FOOD AND SERVICE AT THE AD WELLS.

I HAVE BEEN THERE ON AND OFF OVER THE PAST 4 YEARS AND AGREE THAT I HAVE FOUND THE FOOD IS DISTINCTLY AVERAGE AND A BIT OVERPRICED.

HOWEVER,THE QUALITY OF THEIR REAL ALE IS TOP DRAW.

1 Aug 2010 03:36

The Strathmore Arms, St Pauls Walden

THIS IS A PROPER DRINKERS PUB...

GOOD ALE AND PROPER PEOPLE DRINKING GOOD,BRILLIANT KEPT BEER WITH AN EXCELLENT ATMOSPHERE.

I RECCOMEND IT HIGHLY....

1 Aug 2010 03:06

The Lytton Arms, Knebworth

A GOOD PUB WITH GOOD BEER WHICH WAS BUSY THE NIGHT I WENT IN(PROBABLY DUE TO RAMSTEIN PLAYING AT KNEBWORTH PARK ACROSS THE WAY )

ITS A LOT LESS BUSY AT OTHER TIMES AND WELL WORTH A VISIT FOR ITS EIGHT DRAFT REAL ALES.

1 Aug 2010 02:58

The Goat Inn, Codicote

NICE FRIENDLY VILLAGE LOCAL WITH A GOOD PINT OF ST.AUSTELL TRIBUTE...

WILL PAY A RETURN VISIT IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE.

1 Aug 2010 02:50

The Fox, Luton

within earshot and eyesight of luton airport this was a pleasant if unspectacular pub in the country just outside town.

i was only there for the beer which turned out to be well kept and reasonably priced. i understand it has a good reputation for its food but cannot comment personally.

the staff were pleasant and friendly on my visit so drop in if your passing by.

1 Aug 2010 02:46

Woolly Sheep Inn, Skipton

I STAYED THERE RECENTLY AND THE ROOM AND BEER WERE TOP NOTCH....

HOWEVER,THE BREAKFAST SERVICE IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE.....!

19 Jul 2010 04:50

The Eleanor Arms, Bow

OH ,WHAT A JOY THIS PUB WAS TO FIND...!!!!

IN THE SHADOW OF THE NEW OLYMPIC STADIUM DOWN THE ROAD IT IS EVERYTHING A PUB SHOULD BE.

A PROPER BOOZER WITH A BRILLIANT,CHATTY LANDLORD AND EXCELLENT SHEPHERD NEME BEER AND A BRILLIANT FEELING WELCOMING TO BOTH LOCALS AND STRANGERS(LIKE MYSELF).

IF YOUR IN THE AREA,DROP IN...ITS WELL WORTH A VISIT.

19 Jul 2010 04:36

The Old Coffee House, Soho

HAVING PREVIOUSLY VISITED THE BRODIES FLAGSHIP BOOZER ON THE LEYTON HIGH ROAD (WILLIE THE FOURTH) I EXPECTED THE SAME HIGH STANDARDS HERE......I WAS SADLY DISSAPOINTED...!!!!

I WAS GREETED BY A SURLY,UNRESPONSIVE BARMAN WHO SERVED ME UP A LUKEWARM PINT OF SPECIAL,TOOK MY MONEY(3 QUID A PINT AS OPPOSED TO 1.99 A PINT IN LEYTON.....!) AND RETURNED TO WATCHING THE GOLF...!!!

TAKE MY ADVICE...MAKE THE TRIP UP TO LEYTON HIGH ROAD TO THE WILLIE 4 AND AVOID THIS PLACE...
