The Three Men In A Boat, Reading

A hideous experience, nothing I have ever drunk there has been worth, certainly nothing draught. Awful.

The Kings Head, Islington

I apologise, I understood that the pub fed the theatre rather than the theatre fed the pub, so to speak. That is certainly what I was led to believe by the people I was with anyway!! Still enjoyed the overall atmosphere of the place but as I said probably wouldn't rave about it as much as some I know.

The Crown On The Bridge, Caversham

Overall I can only agree with some of the other reviews. I do like it here and have done for a number of years, it's essentially unchanged since I first went there 10 years ago. It is largely a pub full of people who know each other but saying that I have never felt uncomfortable as I am not one of them!! Sinister bar staff yes but friendly enough.

Thinking about it there is an oddness about the place it shouldn't be good but it is and you should feel uncomfortable but you don't. Not very helpful I know but it's still worth a look

The Spring Inn, Sulhamstead

Food was superb last week and service was A1, no complaints there. Definitely more of a resturant that a pub in my view but as long as you apprecaite that it may be worth a look.

I found this place rather average but will not write it off as so many of my friends rave about it. A proper pub rather than bar which is good and I found the theatre out back an interesting little addition. Probably worth another look.

The Camden Head, Islington

Still drawn back to this place time after time, latest being last weekend. More of the usual really, stnding room only and average drinks, disappointingly slow service this time but maybe just a one off.

The Argyll Arms, Oxford Circus

Fantastic looking pub, faux traditional or real traditional, not sure. A real interesting place to drink. Did have some difficulty getting my order across but thats nothing new these days. A pleasant palce to meet friends but one you probably wouldn't linger in.

The Mucky Pup, Angel, Islington

Spent a nice hour here on Saturday, already a bit on the drunk side before I arrived but good atmosphere and staff. Down side for the evening was being moved on at 7 as the pub was closed for a private party, that aside well worth a visit.

The Stonehouse, Quinton

The aura of impending violence exudes from this Brummie boozer. Most of the walls, tables, doors, etc have seen better days, probably before the last bust up in there. I've been there a few times over the last few years and frankly it is only getting worse.

The Endurance, Soho

Had a very long drinking session in here recently and from what I remember it was a good night. Much cheaper than the pubs surrounding it. Is it too much to saty an 'oasis in the desert', perhaps but still a great little pub.

Bar Med, Reading

Forgettable in almost every way apart from the prices which are border line obscene. Three pints should never cost 10, anywhere, ever.

The Black Dog, Weymouth

Had a night (day) out in Weymouth not too long ago and started in here about 2 on a Wed afternoon, it was packed and people were falling over drunk. This was a weekday afternoon, what was going on? Drinks were stupid cheap so perhaps I can understand and maybe one of the reasons I stayed so long.

Not sure I agreed with the barman who told some guy to 'put his knife away' rather than slinging him out though.........?

The Griffin, Caversham

Always had a little bit of a problem with this pub, nothing really wrong with it just doesn't really deserve to be as packed as it always is! Yes the food is good and the beer is fine, just never understood why it has always taken so long to get served? I suppose I just feel other pubs near by are better so I wouldn't come here that regularly.

Sweeney and Todd, Reading

I've always thought of it more as a pie shop with a bar as previously commented on, can't imagine drinking here without a pie. Saying that the pies are great and the bar is great, I can't imagine a better combination!!

The Slug and Lettuce, Reading

It's the Oracle riverside what do you expect! It's over priced and soulless but everyone should realise that by now about all the pubs over there.

O'Neills, Reading

Not bad as far as theme clubs go. Can only really agree with some of the latest comments posted, it's fun if you're in the mood for that kind of night but you wouldn't want to go too often!!

The Purple Turtle, Reading

Been coming here on and off for years and it doesn't really change. Saying that it has always been good so that is no reason to complain. Service is good, staff respond to conversation and bouncers are decent and fair. Pricer than you would think from outside but it really is a haven where you can mix with all kinds of people and nobody really cares what you look like or say. Well worth a visit.

The Three Guineas, Reading

Still occasionally meet friends from the station here but really don't know why I bother. After 6 or 7 every night (I'm talking weekdays here!) becomes a place with a bit of an attitude. Met my dad there for a pint and a man asked him if he wanted a fight as he 'was staring at his girlfriend' while I was at the bar. Christ my dad is over 60!! Not the first time I have heard of this kind of thing happening or indeed experienced it myself. If you want a fight with pissed up chavs pop along and night of the week.

The Churchillian, Portsmouth

Can only agree with the previous review. Great pub come resturant, nice to visit with a hangover on a Sunday afternoon whilst having lunch. A hidden gem.

The India Arms, Portsmouth

What happened to this place. Used to live in here about five years ago, couldn't get enough of the place. Ok so it was always a bit of dive but great crowd both sides of the bar and beer was always good. Went back recently and there was no-one in the place, beer was also undrinkable. Wash the pipes, please!!

A waste of a good pub. Will try again later in the year, please come back!

The Owtback Bar, Southsea

Owtback, what a place. Cannot get enough of this pub whenever I am in Pompey, love the beer and met some genuinely nice people here over the years! Aslo great selection of bottled ozzie largers, magic!

4 Jan 2006 17:28

The New Inn, Strafield Saye

Had a fantastic new year here, thought it might be a bit 'local' but the people couldn't be friendlier! Loved talking to the man apparently dressed as Osman Bin Laden, in bad taste but lovely guy who was falling over drunk by 10! Will defintely be going back for a normal night out!

4 Jan 2006 17:23

White Horse, Emmer Green

Lost a lot of character of the last 5 years or so. Now more of a family restaurant that a proper pub, nothing either going for it or against it. Another bland gastro pub.

4 Jan 2006 17:18

Pavlov's Dog, Reading

Service is so slooooooooooow. Bar staff serve friends and relatvie almost to the exclusion of any other patrons. Saying that when you do get serve it's not a bad place, excellent variety of contential lagers!! Nice to see a change from the standard fosters and stella sold almost everywhere else. In fact I think i'll score it higher for that reason.

4 Jan 2006 17:09

The Blagrave Arms, Reading

Nice little boozer. Like to start a night out here but also good for meeting up with mates for a drink after work. Easily recommended.

4 Jan 2006 17:05

The Brewery Tap, Reading

Surprised about some of the previous reviews never had any problems with the staff at this place. Been for food, which is good, but only at lunch times so can't really comment on that side too much.

This place really comes into its own as a place to drink though, always get served really quick and great atmosphere, absolutely love it.

Oh and juke box is best I have come across.

This place is great!

4 Jan 2006 16:41

The Walkabout, Reading

A toliet, quite frankly a toliet. Bar staff slow and unfriendly, atmosphere threatening and bouncers the most aggressive neanderthals I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Have never been to a pub where the head bouncer tries to start a fight because he is perhaps bored, oh I have actaully, The Walkabout Reading. Avoid.
