This is at the cheap and cheerful end of the pub chain foodhouse spectrum. Very popular, and hard to get a seat in the evening. Lots of noise, two tvs, and a snooker table. Serves Greene King beer, which is kept okay. Big decking area outside for smokers/families.

Has a friendly manager who runs a good quality pub quiz on a Thursday.

Fantastic pub, excellent friendly service every time. lovely tasting food.
Regular entertainment every few weeks, good mix of clientele
definetely worth a visit!

Would agree with the first three sentences of Gristy's review below, sums the place up well.

Usually has three ales (GK IPA, Abbot and Ruddles since you ask), served fairly well.

A good bet for the footer but avoid on certain evenings when the karaoke is in full swing and wekends when the punters are younger, lairy and shouty.

Points for the book exchange and the fishtank.

Not a bad place, but not really worth a special trip.

Uninspring Greene King food-house, lots of small areas up and down steps, all very random. Loud shouty clientele, big screens everywhere. Huge outdoor decking area at the front of the pub - bet the locals love that late of a night. Complete contrast to the Black Horse across the road, but yet similar in a lot of ways.Just as unappealing.
I know the comment about being a bland gastro-pub was made two years ago, but it's more Hungry Horse than it could ever be described as a gastropub...

Popped in here the other week as I was visiting friends around the corner. Really friendly barman who was slowly getting his way around the till but explained that he was new and a little slow - but got the round of six drinks perfect every time. Decking outside looked inviting if it wasn't for the downpour. Inside was very pleasant and the landlady seems to be running the pub very well.

Typical Greene King ales and the odd promotion on spirits. A tad expensive but was more than happy to stay longer than I had originally planned. Food was very good and actually quite reasonable - we had planned to go to a restaurant but were enjoying the pub too much!

Only problem was that the gents toilet was a little in disrepair, a problem that the landlady and barman apologised for. I guess that it will be fixed up soon.

I was told that there is a quiz night and a poker night during the week. I will definitely visit my friends more often now that I know they have a decent little pub on the doorstep!

Cheers!
