Brilliant, friendly pub with a really nice atmosphere, totally unlike some of the more self-conciously hip bars around Essex Rd/Upper St. Great music, top landlord and very reasonably priced real ales, the only problem is that it's impossible to pop in for a quick one and not end up chatting to someone and staying until the wee hours.

Not the easiest public house to find (at least for me) but well worth searching out. There is a VERY friendly barman, good (home made) pork scratchings, reasonable food, and interesting decor. The bitter is limited, only three on tap, but those that are there are very well looked after. The TT Landlord this weekend was more than drinkable. The eclectic jukebox helps the ambiance. I will visit again when I am next in the area.

Amen to the Mucky Pup.

Good beers, great jukebox (free), lively atmosphere, friendly staff/clientele, pool table, open late, homemade pork scratchings..

This pub reminds me of the halcyon days when pubs existed to serve the local community rather than make as much money as possible.

Long live the Mucky Pup, a dying breed.

Great little pub, with a laid back, friendly atmosphere (infinitely cooler and friendlier than the nearby Old Queens Head, which I have always found to be slightly up its on ass - and for no good reason). Been several times over the past few months and always enjoy myself. Great free jukebox, with all sorts of quality rock music (The Ramones, Black Sabbath, The Clash, CCR, Kyuss, Dinosaur Jr, The Stooges, etc), and a very good pool table. Probably do the best Sunday roast you will find in London as well - give it a whirl.
