Been there 7 or 8 times and always been very satisfied with the food and service, also great views of portsmouth and totaly recommended. zoideboy - 25 Apr 2008 21:59
We have been to the Churchillian quite a few times, but when we went in August 07,we were very unhappy with the service. There were four of us and bought drinks before we sat down to look at the menu. We chose what to eat, and went to the bar to order oviously waiting while people were served with drinks. When it was our turn to be served, the barmaid decided to answer the phone behind the bar, instead of taking our order. She went out to the back to take the call, leaving one member of staff to serve. Since when does a phone call take priority over customers who are actually there waiting? While she was out, more people came to the far end of the bar for drinks. When she finally returned to the bar, she went straight to those people in front of her at the far end, instead of resuming at the food end where we (and another disgruntled customer) were still waiting. We did write to the Manager, but were ignored by him as well! I know the view is nice(when you are allowed to sit inside at the window area), but it has to be backed up with decent basic service. anonymous - 15 Sep 2007 14:17
The view has always been the mainstay of this pub. Have visited it on and off for many years. Visited it again after 4 years and the carpets still niff. Often a problem with bikers taking over the bar at times, bit intimidating being whacked in the back with helmets if you get in their way. Food prices VERY high for nothing special. Sitting outside on a sunny day looking at the view compensates. anonymous - 6 Aug 2007 20:31
Pub is on the crest of the hill with great view. Traditional style, friendly efficient staff. Beer good, food good value and quality. Most people were eating when I visited but then it was a sunday lunchtime. Recommended. shaaun - 4 Apr 2007 14:13
