The Phoenix Inn, Twyford

Update since my last visit 12 months ago. Children are now allowed in the Churchill room under supervision. Decent food and friendly service, handy for stopping off the M3.

The Railway Inn, Pelsall

Opposite Pelsall Common. Good ales and food, reasonably priced and friendly staff and customers. Time has stood still here but then progress isn't always a good thing.

The White Swan, Digbeth

I like this place, especially the neat Victorian style tiled corridor that leads to the cosy back room

, Digbeth

A down to earth pub, perhaps in need of decorating inside but welcoming nonetheless

The Phoenix Inn, Twyford

Good pub, good ale, good food. One thing to note - if you arrive with children under the age of 10 they are not allowed inside the pub (manager's prerogative). There are patio heaters and large patio umbrellas outside but if it's cold or especially wet you may be better off going elsewhere.

The Chine Inn, Shanklin

Temporarily closed during June 2007 due to flooding, we were told. Unfortunately we were therefore unable to visit the inside but it certainly occupies a good high spot overlooking the sea next to Shanklin Chine

The Steamer Inn, Shanklin

Fine food and 6 cask ale offerings, including some guest ales. Not bad at all.

The Crab Inn, Shanklin

Nice enough pub, good food offering but fairly standard draught beer selection

The Greenwich Inn, Greenwich

Not a bad pub but not worth the amazing rating or 9.3 score when I visited on a Friday afternoon in June 2007. It was OK - anyone expecting anyhing more than that could be disapppointed

White Lion, Walsall

Large Victorian pub with loads of character, (birthplace of actress Sue Nicholls from Coronation St), good choice of real ales but desperately in need of some investment by the brewery.

Decent walking distance from Bescot Stadium to enjoy a pre-match pint without the risk of any hooligan-type bother

The Bridgewater, Bloxwich

This pub is currently closed and boarded up

9 Nov 2006 17:55

Hussey Arms, Brownhills

Not so much as an out and out pub but now incorporates The Spaghetti Factory - an Italian restaurant

10 Aug 2006 16:24

The Littleton Arms, Walsall

Now sadly closed to make way for the new ring road.

10 Aug 2006 16:20

The Walsall Arms, Walsall

Real ale local just outside the town centre, quirky layout inside and skittle alley at the rear. One of Walsall's better pubs

10 Aug 2006 16:14

The Little Pack Horse, Bewdley

Former Mad O'Rourkes pub synonymous with top pub grub, good ales and a spit and sawdust environment

10 Aug 2006 16:05

The Woodcolliers Arms, Bewdley

Welcoming pub serving some good cask ales

10 Aug 2006 16:02

The Trumpet, Bilston

No juke box, no pool table, no fruit machines. They're not missed because this is a friendly pub serving Holden's Black Country Ales. Has live jazz music on at weekends. Occasionally visited by members of Slade

The Littleton Arms, Walsall

I visited this place at around 8pm on a Monday night. It was fairly quiet but there were some good ale offerings.

Arbor Lights, Walsall

This is more of a bistro than a pub but it is a cracking place for food, especially if you want a break from the deep fried offerings of your branded pubs. Walsall people are lucky to have a place like this. Always a good atmosphere but especially buzzing at the weekends.

The New Inn, Walsall

A great traditional style real ale pub that has true character

11 Oct 2005 12:06

The Black Boy Inn, Bridgnorth

If you like your ale this is an excellent pub. One of the best ones we visited as part of our Severn Valley Railway pub crawl

21 Sep 2005 18:08

The Litten Tree, Birmingham

This pub has closed

21 Sep 2005 18:03

The Wellington, Birmingham

This place is a little inconspicuous from the outside but offers the discerning punter a good choice of real cask ales as an alternative to the chemical concoctions offered by some of the big branded pubs. There was no background music, just chat and BYO food (yoghurt/chips/buffalo or whatever else you care to eat). The place has applied for a 9am to 1am drinks and entertainment licence. Downside: Barman wears an old Derby County shirt.
