New to this area of Winchester, and love the village. Two pubs in village and we first visited the more traditional of the two, The Phoenix. Nice pub lunch, and good value for money. Wouldn't go back in the evening as my wife felt a bit out of place. I loved it though. Green King, with decent beers, only tried one though. Better than the fuller pubs we have recently been visiting. Will go back to village & other pub shortly.

An excellent pub, only looks tired in comparison with the Bugle. The Greene King IPA was as good as I've tasted in years.

We had a bad experience at The Bridge in Shawford and were feeling quite disconcerted with the area. We had read the reviews about the Bugle and tried there but it was full and the staff recommended the Phoenix opposite.
We had a nice meal and good to see it was being updated, was a bit tired in places. All in all i was happy with food and drink. A good old school pub! and a lot better than the Bridge.

Fish and Chips here were excellent - a serious meal for a fiver. I wish the guest beers would change a little more often but my half of 'Landlord' was fine and the half of 'Black Sheep' that followed was above average.
