The Shakespeare, Victoria

A shithole. Nothing more. Nothing less. No points.

The Druids Head, Brighton

A nice pub - the food was outstanding, but only one ale on, and the quality of that let the place down rather - made the one pint last until we'd finished eating, and then moved on!

The Victory Inn, Brighton

Have to say I'm surprised at the recent postings - when we were there last Friday, the staff were charming and friendly, and even recommended other good pubs in the area to follow on to.
Haven't got a bad word to say about the place!

The Hammersmith Ram, Hammersmith

Cracking pub - went for a pre-Apollo gig drink and meal last night. Very friendly staff, and food not your ordinary pub fare - the venison pie was very rich!
I'm guessing the background music is themed around whoever is on at the Apollo - last night was largely Mark Knopfler and Bob Dylan.
Will definitely be going back.

The Albion, South Norwood

Grim.
Nothing else.

25 Feb 2011 15:09

The Jolly Sailor, South Norwood

Have started drinking here since the sad demise of the alliance.
Its friendly, lets away fans in, and has a juke box and pool table.
Shame theres no ale, but the cider is fine!

Tudor Rose, Coulsdon

Rebranded again. Desparately trying to be a restaurant, but only succeeding to feel like an out of place wine bar.
I'll give it 1/10 because the Doom Bar is quite nice. Otherwise nothing going for it, and once again Old Coulsdon has no pub.

Cuttle Inn, Long Itchington

Pretentious as hell. Go to the Two boats on the other side of the canal - we did!

Two Boats Inn, Long Itchington

Lovely place - huge portions of food, good ale, and live music the evening we stopped there. Way better than the Cuttle on the other side of the canal.

The Cape of Good Hope, Warwick

A proper pub. Ten out of ten, no question!

1 Sep 2010 14:03

The Durham Ox, Shrewley

A pub trying to be a restaurant, but for all that, the food was nice and the ale was on top form. Too expensive, though.

Rose and Castle, Coventry

A pub that wants to be a restaurant. We were taken to a table before we could get drinks. Too poncy for my liking, but the ale was good.

Butlers Leap, Rugby

Quite friendly, but very ordinary

1 Sep 2010 13:57

The Bull, Rugby

A lousy pint of Pride. Only stayed for the one!

1 Sep 2010 13:55

The Magna Charta, Lowdham

Didnt like this at all. Too big, too plastic and too many kids around. On the plus side, the Old Trip was very nice, and got topped up without me having to ask. The Old Ship up the road was far nicer.

Newmarket Inn, Nottingham

A reasonable pint of Bombardier and some delicious nachos with chilli. Happy days. Nice looking room with a pool table that we didnt take advantage of.

11 Jul 2010 22:48

The Old Dog and Partridge, Nottingham

Fairly typical town centre pub, but a decent pint of Bombardier, and a bizarre discussion about western tv show themes with some blokes I didn't know.

11 Jul 2010 22:43

The Cardinal, Victoria

Stumbled on this and went in out of curiosity. A pretty much bog standard Sam Smiths pub. Good service, but made almost unbearable by the nutters drinking in there. Particularly the one with a tendency to bark. Yes really.

8 Jul 2010 11:41

The Keg and Grill, Birmingham

Looked closed at the weekend - no activity on Saturday lunchtime, and a To Let board outside

12 Apr 2010 11:41

The New Inn, Balsall Heath

Now probably closed - we went in at the weekend to be told it was shutting in an hour as it had been "bought by the temple over the road", who had already bought other pubs in the town and had no plans to do anything with it.
If this is an attempt to control our culture, it seems somehow wrong, as it looked like it had been a wonderful pub.

12 Apr 2010 11:38

The Humphrey Bean, Tonbridge

Crass incompetence - nothing more, nothing less.
Much the same as your usual Wetherspoons, but the staff don't even have the basic skill set.
Waited 15 minutes then left without being served. And it wasnt busy.

The Great Western, Wolverhampton

What a wonderful pub. Was taken there before (and after) the match by a Wolves fan - would never have found it otherwise - it cant get a lot of passing trade. The bitters were in excellent condition, the staff efficient and friendly, and the open fires a definite plus. One to remember!

24 Jan 2010 19:26

The Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill

A proper pub - friendly service, a decent pint of Pride and the pizzas were awesome!!

31 May 2009 10:32

The Star Tavern, Belgravia

This is an absolute beauty. I stumbled across it whilst somewhat the worse for wear about five years ago, and have spent the intervening period trying to remember where it was.
Found it yesterday, and it was just as good as I remembered - a proper pub in a mews with top quality Pride. Definitely a ten.

30 May 2009 10:53

The Cask and Glass, Victoria

Great little pub - perfect spitfire every time i've been there.
Just dont go in the rain if theres more than about five of you, as you'll probably be standing outside!!

28 May 2009 21:20

St. George's Tavern, Victoria

Its a Nicholsons, but still damn good.
Had London Pride and Landlord - the Landlord was on top form.
Not quite as good as the Cask and Glass, but benefits from being that bit closer to the station - I'll be going again (.....and again and again and...)

28 May 2009 21:18

The Walrus and Carpenter, Monument

Not as bad as the reviews tend to indicate.
Sure, they were rushed, and it was a bit messy, but I put this down to the fact that the marathon was passing the door on the day I was there.
Would go back and try again in less extreme circumstances!

7 May 2009 17:40

The Parkwood, Hartburn

Good pub - all the staff were friendly, the ales were kept well, and the food was good. Can't ask for much more really!

3 Jan 2009 19:02

The Griffin, Camden

Very tasteful. They even give the pole a wipe down every now and then.

30 Nov 2008 21:14

The Mash Tun, Victoria Station

Awful place. The Bombardier cost the best part of a pound more than in Wetherspoons, and came out cloudy. Bit of a struggle to get it changed - apparently nobody else had complained, so that made it alright!

30 Nov 2008 21:11

Wetherspoons, Victoria Station

Pretty ordinary to be honest. Bitter normally ok until they do their real ale festivals and take off all the standard beers to make space for stuff flavoured with chocolate, coffee or plums. If I want to drink dodgy beer I'll go to a proper beer festival. At this place I just want a decent pint while I'm waiting for a train. Sometimes I get it!

30 Nov 2008 21:02

The Jolly Farmers, Purley

Come on Jaffa, get a grip. The place is fine - I go in several times a week on the way home frm work and the staff are, without exception welcoming and polite. The beer is kept well - Pride and Bombardier generally sound. The bands on a Friday are all from pretty much the same mould, but mostly they are good musicians and entertaining. Cant find much to fault what is, after all, a town centre pub. Its certainly the best in Purley

30 Nov 2008 18:50

The Duke of Wellington, Danby

What a gem. We stayed overnight at the pub - the food was excellent, the staff were fiendly and the three bitters were all in good condition.
Given this, we were surprised it wasn't busier - only about half a dozen stalwarts at the bar by closing time.
I would definitely go back.

25 Sep 2008 12:57

Tudor Rose, Coulsdon

Its a world better than it was as a Harvester - now clean and welcoming, and usually has a couple of ales in reasonable to good condition. Food is also excellent. My only gripe would be the time it can take to get a pint, but I'm sure they'll sort the barstaff out sooner or later.
