| A well regarded pub, but its not for me.I feels more like a hotel lounge bar not the sort of place i would like to linger. The beers are from fullers nothing too exciting. The highlight of the visit was the toilets, probably the poshest ive seen in a pub. I wont be hurrying back Picasso09 - 6 Jan 2010 23:34 |
| I pay an annual visit to this pub with friends just before Christmas. It had dipped somewhat in service and quality but now seems to be back on track, with well-kept Fullers beers and some fairly decent food albeit rather expensive (but then it would be in Belgravia wouldn't it?). I can never seem to find the place though - well hidden away so be prepared to work hard to seek it out if visiting for the first time. Ordinary - 17 Dec 2009 13:54 |
| 2 thin pints of Pride and an expensive burger. Not a bad pub and did not get over crowded on a Friday lunchtime. Apparently the Jack Frost was OK. Quite what kind of pratt cares the pub was once the hang out of scum and 2nd rate celebrities is beyond me. It's now so bland and middle class that fetishising an irrelevant past is beyond me. Like all pubs in my Belgravia crawl not sure it's worth seeking out unless you are there for a reason. bedfont - 29 Nov 2009 21:56 |
| Well known, long established Fullers pub situated in a quiet cobbled mews close to Belgrave Square. It's main claim to fame is that, allegedly, the Great Train Robbery was planned in the upstairs room. Of more relevance to current BITE readers, I suspect, is the fact that the pub is one of only a handful that has appeared in every CAMRA GBG to date - yes all 37 editions. The pub has had what I suppose classifies as a "sensitive refurbishment" since my previous visit several years ago. The exterior has been painted black and, whilst the layout and structure of the bar area has not been altered, the main seating area on the left has become more food orientated and now has a bit of a drawing room atmosphere to it. Disappointingly, the CAMRA mirror by the bar area has gone, as has a number of framed articles about the pub that were previously on the wall. Rather surprisingly, the pub was participating in CAMRA London Pubs Week ( 7-15 November 2009 ) and, at a quick glance, appears to be the only one of the 36 pubs listed on the London LocAle passport that is a Fullers pub. Copies of the passport were prominently displayed on the bar counter. 5 beers were on on my recent Sunday afternoon visit - Pride, Chiswick, ESB, Discovery plus Gales Winter Brew. The London Pride - £ 2.90p - was not very good at all - but I'll put that down as a one off. I'll continue to pop in now and again. Still worthy of inclusion in any crawl of the area. | Another one of Belgravia's excellent hidden pubs. A pleasant interior of the kind of which there are too few in central London means that this is somewhere you can spend a very comfortable evening. If you can take the time to walk here it is well worth the effort. murgatroyd - 4 Aug 2009 21:14 |
