The Roundstone, East Preston

Since my last posting we have given this place 3 - yes 3 more chances. Mainly becasue it is close to home and when finishing work at 3 we come to have a lunch. 3 out of 3 disasters and the last one was the biggest and final one. Slow is an understatement. Staff have no motivation:
Tables left uncleared
Only one smile from the 5 on duty
Dirty tables
First course 50 minutes in an all but empty building
Second course a further 26 minutes and we would have walked out but we had already paid for it.
After working since 6am to 3pm I like a relaxed meal but this was just stressfull.
We will not be going back, it is quicker to go further away (usually to The Harvester in Littlehampton) than eat at The Roundstone which is less than 5 mins from home.

The Mulberry, Goring By Sea

Well maybe it has changed hands but it is a warm welcoming pub and the food is good grub. Yes, it is all pre-prepared food the same as any other pub in the area but a good chef makes each plate look and taste very good. It is quick (unless they tell you otherwise) and there are plenty of different areas to eat including a very large beer garden. They now charge for the car park to stop it becoming overcrowded with outsiders but you can get your money back when you buy a drink or food.
They have themed evenings and large screen TV's for the sports fans.

The Devils Dyke Hotel, Brighton

Very interesting comments from below. I actually wondered if I have the right place. The one I am to comment on is at the end of the Devils Dyke road where you can park free if you are a National Trust member.
The outside decking was so full of people eating we had to go inside. We could sit wherever we chose and the staff were all pleasent (this was the end of September 2010)
The starters and first courses were fine, the only complaint I had was the Eton Mess i had was served in a hot (recently washed) bowl.
We have been back since that incident (end of October 2010) and all was fine but still no room outisde to sit and eat.
It may be that the person who asked for a suggestion box did the trick!

The Murrell Arms, Barnham

Awful place. Yes it is full of oldy worldly item - packed full actually and all covered in thick dust and cobwebs.
If you want a drink then yes, it is fine but I would not recommend the food at all!

The Arun View Inn, Littlehampton

Makes a nice change to find a restaurant that 'specialises in fish' to offer more than scampi and fish n'chips!
Good choice on menu. Great river views, friendly staff.
They were packed and it was a good job we had booked a table but the food was not ages arriving and was well presented and cooked to perfection.

The Sussex Yeoman, Goring By Sea

Have not been back here for some time (will do so next week) but I have to add to the comments below. Dan was the only one who seemed to have a head on his shoulders.
Last time we were there, Dan wasn't and they served us our dessert before the main course along with the bill!!

Bulls Head, Goring By Sea

Third time lucky (or not).
1st attempt - wanted to go in for a drink (pre smoking ban) and asked for a non smoking table - Answer was, no, sorry you need to order food for that!

2nd attempt (for a meal) - sorry we have a party in and (athough the party was being served and other tables in another area had free tables) we cannot serve food as we have a drains problem!

Not to be outdone..
3rd attempt - very busy in bar but dining room areas was half empty. I ordered a specials and hubby the roast......waited.......waited......waited.
When we did get the food it was ok but I know another local that serves much better and cheaper food at a much faster rate!

The Swallows Return, Worthing

What a lovely setting this pub/restaurant sits in. It could be so good and yet it falls a long way short of that. The food is expensive for what it is and the staff are too busy talking about themselves together to notice customers.
My suggestion would be - bring your prices down to meet the standard of food or raise your food standards to meet the prices charged.
Maybe this is the reason that most people were sitting drinking and not eating and there was plenty of room.

The Sussex Yeoman, Goring By Sea

2 for 1 on a great variety of edible food. Plenty of it and a good atmosphere. Before the no smoking ban was not for those of us who are non smokers as we had to get the drinks from the bar.

The Roundstone, East Preston

since re-opening, the food is served a little faster than before (not difficult) The decor is now greatly improved and provides secluded corners for intimate eating. Not top class cuisine but good enough.

The Oystercatcher, Littlehampton

Have visited this restaurant over the past 3 years on and off. they have 'recently' changed their menu and in mine and my friends thinking, for the worse. Abience is still good but is now on the expensive side for the food you get.

You can die waiting to be served in this place!!No matter how full/empty it is - we have tried them all, they take AGES and often have to be reminded we are still waiting. no number of Free Meal or discount meals are enogh to pay for that!

The Windmill Inn, Rustington

Great Pub and the added bonus of it being non smoking means you dont stink when you come out! Food is very good and although we had to wait 30 mins, we were informed of this fact before being seated. Friendly bar staff.
