Used to be a favourite of mine, it's really gone downhill in the last couple of years, I don't know what's gone wrong, it's certainly not as busy at weekend now.
One Saturday night when I went in they had a wheelie bin parked by the lift near the front door, if I'd been Tim Martin heads would have rolled.

Great beers, very efficient staff, usually busy, I don't know why they need to write their own reviews.
14 Feb 2013 09:31
Why is all the beer super chilled?
Awful stuff, cross the road to the Crown for a decent pint with actual flavour.
17 Nov 2011 10:11
I agree with Yamato, somebody seems to be running a vendetta against the management of the the Crown, I'm happy to go in any time.
17 Nov 2011 10:03
Great pub, lots of different beers, good food and the staff are excellent.
A bit noisy at weekend.
6 Aug 2010 20:04
I see rushyboy123 has only posted one review, the pub he describes is not the Crown I know, i think somebody or something has upset him.

A creche with beer, over-run with kids and yobbish parents at the weekend.
Rumoured to be closing again after the World Cup.
I came out just as the police vans were arriving.
Scored 1 for the Bank Top beers.

If the Addams Family ran a pub......
Weirdest looking bar staff I've ever seen. (Sat. 20th Feb)
I liked the band but the beer is overpriced and all the hand pumped beers have gone or weren't on.
24 Feb 2010 10:32
Under new management again !!!!
Let's hope it does better.
3 Apr 2009 16:15
Sadly, according to the owner it's closing after New Year, sold or not.
22 Dec 2008 16:32
I called in this week, they'd no bitter, the barman was texting whilst pouring me a pint of Guinness, I don't think I'll back.
20 Sep 2008 11:37
I've served my time working through the Camra Good Beer Guide, I don't need advice thanks.
27 Aug 2008 17:03
Obvious from his comments on this and other posts that Yamato doesn't like Holt's beer,(not a guest beer by the way), does that mean other people shouldn't drink it?
Sorry you were 'forced' to drink Joey's, strange choice if you don't like Holt's beer.
26 Aug 2008 10:27
Yamato, excellent Holt's bitter only 1.80 a pint and you're complaining?
Nowt at all wrong with it,I've drunk plenty of it.
12 Aug 2008 20:52
The 'In' pub at the moment, good beer, good food, a singing postman, he didn't do ''ave you got a loight boy' though.
On the up.
23 Jul 2008 23:56
Lovely Holts bitter in the Crown, Yamato seems a bit biased.
I've been in on a Sunday, the organ music's not to my taste but lots of people enjoy it, I've never known it to compete with the piped 'musak', never noticed there was any.
23 Jul 2008 23:50
I hear they had a visit from the police last night, let's hope they take note

The Vic has re-opened in the last couple of weeks after being done up (not).
Some repainting and minor adjustments, otherwise the same old dump with the same customers.
14 May 2008 00:19
AKA,'The Merry Widow's'
These days makes it's money from serving after time.
27 Oct 2007 23:59
Passed today and their were some workmen (or maybe demolition men)going in.
18 Sep 2007 20:21
I think you'll find it's called improving the area!
If you had taken a closer look you might have noticed the Tapas menu, not really Parisian.
Comments from the customers so far have all been in favour, you should try it.
PS I'm a customer, though what I've written might sound like an advert for this excellent pub.
15 Aug 2007 08:46
I notice some of the windows have been boarded up, can't see it reopening any time soon.
9 Jul 2007 19:24
The name says it all, over chilled keg beer and lager, over loud layabouts.
One to avoid.
22 Mar 2007 13:07
The pub further up the road is called Macauley's and is well worth a visit.
The only pub I ever been in where they were showing a gardening programme on the big screen telly.
22 Aug 2006 00:43
Very busy on a Friday night when I visited, yet the pub further up the road (whose name I can't remember) was almost empty despite selling the same bitter for 80 pence a pint less.
22 Aug 2006 00:38
Could he be the same guy who sits at the bar in the Old Original Bay Horse?
See OOBH comments.
3 Aug 2006 13:58
Very pleasant atmosphere last time I visited, a Sunday night, very busy.
Customers were a very mixed bunch, some there to listen to the organist others in for a quiet drink and chat, the pub is big enough and the music volume kept low enough to accomodate everybody.
I don't know who the organist is, but is choice of music is fascinating, though he sometimes forgets what he's playing part way through.
(And the Holt's bitter is great!)
21 Jul 2006 09:57
I like the comparison with the Churchill dog though I have to say the dog is more amusing (and better looking)
20 Jul 2006 13:36
I've been in tonight, no telly, no jukebox, super pint of Bolton brewed beer, if it wasn't so far away I'd be in every night.
28 Jun 2006 23:37
Very poor John Smiths 2.05 a pint, I won't be back.
I don't mind paying for a decent pint but that's a bit much.
I suppose they need to charge that to pay the artists tnight, (Raglan) authentic Oirish gibberish, over amplified and badly distorted.
28 Jun 2006 23:32
I don't understand the complaint about the prices, I've been in tonight drinking JW Lees at 1.85.
The gobby blokes effing and jeffing are still sat at the bar, but otherwise quite pleasant
28 Jun 2006 23:25
Nice pub, hand pumped beer, bonny barmaids and fantastic views (apart from the barmaids)
Beer a bit expensive but well worth a vist
18 Jun 2006 14:51
I went in last Saturday, no light in gent's toilet, lock on door broken.
Holding the door shut with your foot whilst sitting in the dark is not my idea of convenience.
Standards are slipping.
12 Jun 2006 22:45
I've not visited the Wishing Well since the 80's, sounds like it's still a great pub.
4 Jun 2006 23:12
Stand at the bar and watch the tumbleweed blow through the empty space.
4 Jun 2006 00:27
It will be nice to see it being used again, whether Horwich needs another Italian restaurant is debatable
31 Mar 2006 20:03
Sinclairs Oyster Bar, Manchester
Probably my favourite Manchester pub
Who's DR? (see previous comment but 1)
28 Mar 2006 10:51
The Crown and Anchor, Manchester
I once saw one of the Corrs in here when they were playing at the M.E.N. Arena, just my bloody luck, it was Jim (with several minders/hangers on)
I'm one of the sad old geezers who liked it before the refit.
28 Mar 2006 10:43
I do remember it before the makeover, lots of little rooms, great for a bit of privacy (and the food was cheap then!)
My rating of 6 would have been higher but it's damned expensive.
28 Mar 2006 10:20
Very busy, good beer at reasonable prices, some of the customers a bit rough and ready.
Last time I went in there was a very loud guy standing at the bar selling pirate DVD's.
The pub also became known as 'Aunt Sally's' after Eileen the landlady had a very odd haircut.
26 Sep 2005 20:42
Closed for refit at the moment, glad to see the back of the purple painted exterior.
I think it's going to be improved for the better.
26 Sep 2005 09:38
Very nice pub, good food, could be cheaper.
Beer and food rather pricy
26 Sep 2005 09:22
Great pub with great hand pumped beer, Landlord and staff very friendly.
In need of decoration.
1 Aug 2005 12:01
The Thatch and Thistle, Blackrod
Nice and friendly, excellent hand pumped beer, good food (not microwa ved junk)bit pricy if you are just calling in for pub grub, would prefer smaller portions and lower prices.
No jukebox, no fruit machines, no idiots.
14 Jul 2005 20:07
Once a very popular pub, nowadays seems to change landlords every couple of months, frequently closed.
14 Jul 2005 19:56
Back to inspectorblakey's profile
The Spinners Arms, Adlington
A very good pub with great beer,I'd visit again if the beer was a bit cheaper.
I would have given more than seven if it wasn't for the prices.
