The Glasshouse Stores, Piccadilly Circus

My dear RexRattus, I do apologise if I upset you though my comment (opinion) wasn't aimed at you specifically. I can assure you I am very much fussed about how my beer is served and I agree wholeheartedly that it is crucial to what makes an excellent pub. I cry out loud when I read so many people bellyaching because this pub's "only got keg". The keg in The Glass House Stores (and all the other Sam Smith's boozers I've been to) would knock most run of the mill, mass produced, hand pumped bitters into a cocked hat (you know the beers I'm talking about). We should recognise this pub for what it is, a small(ish), independent brewery outlet dedicated to providing us with the kind of drinking experience that is fast disappearing. You obviously enjoy a good beer so by all means ignore dregs like John Smiths and it's ilk, but you're shooting yourself in the foot if you refuse your custom to pubs like The Glass House Stores. That's why I cry out loud!

The Glasshouse Stores, Piccadilly Circus

For crying out loud, this is a fantastic London pub regardless of how it's beer is served!

The Sloop Inn, St Ives

One lager, one bitter, splash of lemonade in the lager, packet of crisps, 9.25, and short changed by 25p to boot. Was in here in 2007 and loved the place, this year's brief and financially painful stay was my last.

The Windsor Castle, Kensington

Nice, quirky and surprisingly uncrowded on the Sunday afternoon I visited however the barman's a grumpy bugger who could do with a good hair cut.

The Nelson Arms, South Wimbledon/Colliers Wood

Spent a pleasant Friday evening in here. Prices a little steep but at least that seems to keep the riff raff out. Decent enough landlord and staff, couple of good bands, no pond life, no trouble, beer choice could be better but I guess it's mainly aimed at lager drinkers and the keg bitter was drinkable enough (also they have light ale so light and bitters were on the cards until the cost became prohibitive).

All Bar One, Sutton

Agree the prices are high but it helps to keep the riff raff out which, in Sutton, is a full time job.

The Lord Clyde, Borough

What a magnificent pub. Real beer, real people, great staff, proper landlord, tourist free, proper light and bitter (i.e. there's some left in the bottle after you've topped up to the pint mark), no music (at least while I was there). The kind of pub that makes life worth living.

The Old Bank, Sutton

Best pub in the high street, the staff are superb and, as has been noted elsewhere, the landlady is not to be messed with and runs the place with a grip of iron. However this means that the place in low on chavs and high on good service and well kept, well priced beer. A word of warning though there's one exception to this, should you fancy a Magners, it's 4.10 a bottle!!!!

The Plume of Feathers, Greenwich

Did a bit of a pub crawl in Greenwich at the weekend and this was by far the best pub we visited. Good selection of bitter, tidy, friendly locals, off the tourist track. Only down side was too many kids in the garden (one's too many to be honest).

The Revolution Bar, Sutton

A teenage hell hole with music so loud even I, a seasoned Motorhead follower, had to wince. Granted it's aiming at relieving the cream of the local yoot of their hard earned so I'm far from their target audience but adults beware, unless you're the victim of a cruel medical experiment, avoid this place like the plague.

The Bell Hotel, Newtown

Oh, and it's got a pool table ad their Sunday lunch is excellent.

This pub's been up and down a bit over the years but right at the momment it's on top form. The current managers are doing a fantastic job and the beers better than a lot of the town's other pubs (the Ruddles Best is a good session ale and they keep it well here). Saturdays they have bands and I've yet to see a dodgy one. Always worth a visit before, after or in between visits to The Wagon and The Railway.

The Moon on the Hill, Sutton

The fortunes of this pub perfectly mirror those of Sutton itself. Ten years ago it was a pleasant enough place now it's just a cr*phole that's been overrun by morons.

The Waggon and Horses, Newtown

Far and away the best pub in the town. Excellent beer, well kept, guest beers, (but be quick the locals will see off the barrel in no time), a great little restaurant round the back and Bank's Mild for the end of the weekend when you really don't think you can drink any more.

King Lud, Ryde

Ahh but Twiglets, looking good on the outside is no guarantee of beauty on the inside. Anyway, it's years since I've been to this place but it was always my favourite island pub and, if scooteroy is to be believed, is still a top boozer. I'm just glad it's not turned into a bl**dy O'Neils or something.

The Windsor Castle, Carshalton

Well done Peach, there's some bands been waiting for years to get in down here, and some punters been waiting just as long for a change from the same old bands week in week out. Perhaps the lazy booking policy's changing, (though I'm not holding my breath). Otherwise, this is a great little pub, good beer, friendly.
