The Sir Walter Tyrell, Brook

I visited this pub (as many others probably have) whilst on a family holiday to the New Forest. Its an impressive and imposing building in fantastic surroundings the garden was excellent, especially the huge play area kept my son amused for ages!

Perhaps where my visit differed is there were only four visitors in the place me and the rest of the family. The food came quickly and was very good quality. I cant fault it at all: I had the game pie which was piping hot with a really tasty puffy top and my wife, the haddock and chips which due to the size was party eaten by me as well. Even my son left the play area to enjoy his meal which is a rarity

Beer wise, I had the Ringwood 49er and Flack Manor, Flack's Double Drop. Both well kept and very refreshing. Staff were friendly, food was quality and the surroundings perfect. I will definitely head back to the Tyrell when I am in the area again. A well deserved 8/10.

The Fighting Cocks, Godshill

I visited this pub whilst staying at the local holiday park, Sandy Balls as it was a convenient mile away an easy pram pushing distance! Four ales on when I visited: Ringwood Best and Hobgoblin were both well kept and went down a treat. Its a nice pub that makes the most of its location: As I was with the family, the play area and decent garden (plus a stream of visiting ponies) were welcome. The setting of the Fighting Cocks is certainly a strong point.

I didnt see the specials board until it was too late having said that, I cant really fault what Id ordered though as it was tasty, arrived quickly and was hot. Pretty much what I look for in a pub meal! The prices were pretty much on a par with what Id pay in Surrey so getting towards 4.00 a pint and 10 ish for a standard main meal. I visited several times over the course of my stay and would certainly return if in the area again.

The Bree Louise, Euston

Im torn on what I think about the Bree Louise. Its literally a stones throw from the hustle of Euston station but could be in another world. The website positions it as Eustons best kept secrets and this could be true.

Ive been here a few times and the beer I had on the most recent fleeting visit a couple of pints of Dark Stars Espresso Coffee Beer, was absolutely fantastic. I can honestly say Ive never had a poor pint in the Bree Louise.

I guess the thing that stops me coming here more often is the fact that the place just doesnt feel conducive to spending more time in. It feels awkward: The kind of place that people may stereotypically think of when you mention real ale. It must be worth chucking a few quid into a renovation to bring up the standard of the dcor? Perhaps thats just me.I guess I just like to feel comfortable over a few pints in my not particularly old age!

8/10 for the beer, 5/10 for the environment. Ill give it an honest 7 overall.

The Exmouth Arms, Exmouth Market

I cant help but think this pub has been spammed to give it the current low score which is, in my humble opinion undeserved.

Four real ales on during a recent visit from the Magic Rock, Oakham and Camden breweries plus another that escapes me, probably as I tried the three mentioned and they were superb. There was also a good range of lagers as including those from Brew Dog and Camden which Ill try on my next visit.

The pub is tastefully decorated and the food (mini burgers or sliders to give them the proper name) is novel and tasty. The staff also seemed knowledgeable about the beer they were serving which is a bonus.

If youre in the area and come upon the Exmouth Arms, Id recommend venturing in. I will certainly do so again in the future. Definitely worth a 8/10.

The Bell, Fetcham

Not my local but a pub that I can get to within relatively easy walking distance: The large interior is welcoming and the split between the more formal restaurant and the bar area means it retains a nice pub feel to those who want it.

As its a Youngs pub, you get the standard offerings plus usually one guest. I've always had a good pint here and when Ive eaten, the food has always been good quality.

Staff are always pleasant and the regulars are too so its a good place to visit.

However, as with other posts here, I cant help but feel that the place would be a whole lot busier if the prices of the drinks were more reasonable. I appreciate where its situated and its probably an expensive pub to maintain but having a round of drinks shouldnt entail taking out a second mortgage :-) The cost of wine here seems incredibly high

I'll continue to return for the occasional drink whilst my pocket can accommodate it because ultimately, its a good pub.

The Queens Head, Icklesham

Superb pub that Ive been to a couple of times whilst visiting the area. Last time was on a recent Sunday when bad weather forced us inside from the beer garden and into the equally pleasant surroundings of the pub itself.

Although it was absolutely heaving on a Sunday lunch time, the extremely hard working and pleasant staff managed to find a spare table. Food was extremely good, Darkstar Hophead and Harveys equally so. If you want guaranteed table inside, its clearly advisable to book in advance.

Im aiming to get down again in the summer when I get back in that beer garden and try and get through all the ales the Queens Head has to offer. Wonderful place!

The Dolphin, Eastbourne

Ended up in the Dolphin on a recent non-league footie away day and wasn't disappointed in the slightest. A couple of the ales were off on the day but Doom Bar and Harveys went down a treat. Good, relaxed atmosphere in the early afternoon: Pleasent bar staff, superb burgers - can't fault the place. Will certainly go back in the future.

The Cumberland Arms, West Kensington

Quality pub: I judge this on the fact that I went in for an informal corporate drink + lunch and then spent the entire afternoon and evening rooted to the spot. London Pride and Tim Taylor were both excellently kept but unfortunately the Harveys had run out by the time I decided a change was needed.

Nice little sun trap by the side of the pub which was conducive to a bit of alfresco eating and drinking on an overcast day in April so I can only guess this will be better in the Summer months. Menu exotic by some pub standards but all who ate thoroughly enjoyed the grub. Hate to use the term gastro-pub as this sometimes conjures up the sterility offered by the chain gastro joints and sterile this wasnt.

Inside the pub is equally pleasant: Almost rustic, certainly comfortable and welcomingly un-pretentious.

Ill definitely remember this one for the next time Im in the area.
