ths is a lovely pub.ive been using this place since it was one room big in the late 60s.its a lovely spot, fabulous views.the staff are friendly and the beers are grt.go on a music nite{weds or thurs}.grt atmosphere.the food is good but agree with reviews below.its not changed for what seems forever and agree that the attitude will be "if its not broke".they will still always be full.go for the sausage in french bread for a snack with a pint, but check the scallops out.they are microwaved and scoulding hot,but still good.the deep fried brie is also a fav.we were once often found driving there from maidstone, but its too samey now and weve moved on.when we do go to rye/hastings we still go in.3 generations of our family now know it well.

This is what pubs are about, easily the best pub in the area, always has a good selection of well kept ales and a warm friendly atmosphere, OK so the food is a bit dated and I can't remember the last time the menu actually altered (I have only been coming here for eight years though!)

I think the reason is that nothing gets changed is that old chestnut "If it ain't broke then don't fix it" and I must admit I am inclined to agree.

I've visited this pub on several occasions and must say good food, good beer and wonderful location. Recently tried to book a table (knowing the restaurant would probably be fully booked on a Sunday lunchtime) and asked if it would be possible to perhaps reserve a table in the wonderful garden to which I was told only for special ocassions - apparently my mother's 80th birthday wasn't considered special enough! I'm not going to slag the place off because it is a lovely pub but ... well, what more can a son say?!

Probably the best pub in the area, great selection of real ales, guest ales, etc, always busy, and despite an emphasis on food, manages to be a proper pub too.Great views of Rye and the Brede valley.Very nice

Went to the pub this evening! Very busy, but quick efficient service. Excellent Beer, 5 to choose from! Good old fashioned pub grub, which was reasonably priced, hot and was served quickly by very pleasant staff. Will definatly visit again. Nice to experience a proper pub without any hang ups or identity crisis!
