| This is pretty far off the beaten track. Normally, I would stick with the Royal Oak at Fritham, but they had a 60th birthday "do", so I had to go elsewhere. This is "not bad", but not particularly outstanding either. They have a range of "real" beers" (Ringwood, etc.) and the food is reasonable. However, given a choice, I would rather go to The Royal Oak any day. (The barman was Australian, on my visit.) 6/10 HenPen - 5 Feb 2010 13:02 |
| Our walking group have visited the Sir Walter Tyrell on a number of occasions over the years. So lets get the reviews into context. This is a very busy pub on a fine weekend. Saying that we have never been treated discourteously. Yes most of the staff are non British but on our last visit we were served by two charming young men one of them French. The staff work hard and for the most part have been very pleasent. Also the food is good, reasonably priced & the service is quick. The Tyrell is a popular pub with forest visitors, consequently it is often very busy. My advice as a local is get in early & be nice to the staff. By the way, the beer is always well kept. | twice now the East europium manager has tried to over charge so beware, the place has a very good play area and the food is good value and a bottle of decent wine at £8.90 is good. so just watch the bill trevortheweather - 15 May 2009 20:41 |
| Visited 6.30pm 14th Aug 08 (Thurs). Family of four with two young boys 10 and 9. Quite busy but prompt courteous and efficient service from East European staff. Food good. New play area very good. Apparently new owners since January. Good location, short walk to Rufus Stone. Will recommend to friends and will go again (next week actually!) paulrodford - 14 Aug 2008 23:59 |
| The barman in this pub is so unbelievably rude it defies belief. If there was a competition to award points for the most ill mannered, unfriendly and truculent barman in the land, he'd be a dead cert. Visit this pub only if you like being treated like a leper. Reilly - 18 Feb 2008 23:28 |
