Company Row, Consett

Very large bar but a below par trip to this Wetherspoon's.

The Prince Of Wales, Princetown

Worth a visit if only to get my favourite Ale in Britain: Dartmoor Jail Ale.

The Red Lion, Plawsworth

Lovely food although not a particularly cheap eating out experience. They had one real ale on, Theakston's when I was in then back in October. The old owner's now own the Travellers Rest(or Travelling Man I can't remember) at Witton Gilbert, which also does good food although at a slightly cheaper price.

The King and Castle, Kidderminster

Amazing pork pies!

Varsity, Durham

I only have visited here for coffee and cake, and I think that's a poor thing for a supposed pub.

Market Tavern, Durham

They do good pies.

9 Jul 2007 17:35

Heroes, Plymouth

This is now closed and is part of the Oceana complex

The Fortescue, Mutley Plain

My review meant to say the Hyde Park, not the Mutley Plain where both the Fortescue and the Hyde Park are!

It was a blonde moment, I apologise, and I'm a brunette;)

The Fortescue, Mutley Plain

The Fortescue is my favourite pub on the Plain. There is normally a good selection of ales, and on Sunday Spingo if you can dare to try it.

I also like the Mutley Plain, but find this pub just edges it in my estimations(there is a huge rivalry cricket team wise between the 'Fort' and the Mutley Plain) because of the greater ale selection.

There is also a good quiz on Sunday nights, and a surprisingly good jukebox too.

The Treasury, Plymouth

I don't like having to pay to get entrance into a 'bar' or pub. It's far too trendy for my liking, and the drinks are extortionately priced.

You'd be better to go to the Bank or the Minerva if you're in this area, and want unpretentious drinking and decent prices.

The Bodega, Newcastle

This pub is handily situated five minutes from the station, so therefore it can easily be the first and or the last pub you visit on a trip to Newcastle. Which it should be, as it's one of the best.

The range of beers is good, particularly in offering Durham brewery ales(unusual from my experience outside of Durham City- although I welcome anyone correcting me if it's an error!).

The architecture is fantastic, the toilets are spotless and the booths are very comfortable to sit in and have a chat with a fantastic pint.

The Fox and Fiddler, Colchester

Good ale and well kept. Funny atmosphere though, but not in a bad sense.

Rose and Crown, Thurnby

In a picture postcard village and a thatched pub. I went here for a meal and was not disappointed and the beer was good too... although I still prefer Everard's Original to Tiger.

18 Apr 2006 09:42

Last Plantagenet, Leicester

The beer is okay, although I didn't think particularly well kept(it was just a bit too cold for me). I'd like to see what it is like on a weekend though, as when I was in there (admittedly a Wednesday night) it was deserted.

The Bank, Plymouth

This is probably the only pub in the city centre. The architecture inside and outside means it's definitely worth a visit.

The only 'ale' is Tetley's, but this is cheap but if you want a proper pint of real ale closer to town I'd suggest you'd walk to the Minerva(ten minutes walk away).

There's never been a bad atmosphere in there when I've been in.

Just to mention there is a karaoke night on a Wednesday, although I'm sure this is well advertised.

Fire Station, Whitley Bay

In the old fire station, on the main drag in Whitley Bay.

The real ale was a bit too cold for my liking, but like many 'spoons there was a good selection.

The downstairs area and the little booths (almost facing the bar) are the best for eating.

The Moon And Bell, Loughborough

Lots of seating, although it fills up pretty quickly(or had done by the time I got there!). Did have a lovely pint called "Dreadnought" from Nottingham there though.

8 Apr 2006 22:52

The Woodman Inn, Durham

Would agree with all the previous comments, and add that I've never had a bad pint in the Woodman.

Its very friendly to both locals and students and you get the sense on both types of people, that once a person is hooked then they continue to visit! (I am definitely included in this!)

It's my favourite pub in Durham, and luckily is just around the corner from where I live.

The Water House, Durham

Most of the time this Wetherspoons is fairly pleasant. However, towards the weekend(understandably) and later on in the night the divide between town and gown seems very very present. This probably isn't helped by it's location on North Road, which is Durham's epicentre for rowdiness and fights.

But the real ales are cheap, and you know what you are getting food wise.

Although there is a good split level dining area. But do not let my review put you off too much, there has only been one time(out of many visits) when I (as a young female student) felt unsafe.

8 Apr 2006 22:45

New Inn, Durham

There is no real ale(which is not good for me) and the drinks are not that cheap (without one of those discount cards). It's plastic and fake, even the bar staff looked bored.

8 Apr 2006 22:40

The Halfway House Inn, Kingsand

The pub has a restaurant which serves good food, particularly fish dishes.

As far as I can remember there are a range of real ales and one cider(last time I was there it was Weston's Old Rosie-not one to be drunk lightly!).

8 Apr 2006 22:37

The Minerva Inn, Plymouth

Good ales, and lovely snug at the back.

8 Apr 2006 22:34

The Admiral McBride, Plymouth

Now one real ale(last time I looked it was Sharp's Doombar) also surprisingly good fish and chips.

Commercial radio station music in the background is not for me though.

8 Apr 2006 22:32

Dun Cow, Durham

I'd agree with what alister has said, and would recommend the snug on a cold winter evening(of which there are quite a few in Durham!)

8 Apr 2006 22:30

Farmers Arms, Muker

The pint of Black Sheep was very welcome after a 8 mile walk up Gunnerside Gill... which I recommend to everyone!

This pub is the only pub I've ever been to where there is a sign which says "the pub is behind you" on the side of the road where the sign is!

Traditional pub in an absolutely stunning and relatively unknown part of North Yorkshire!

8 Apr 2006 22:28

The Colpitts Hotel, Durham

The cheapest pint found in Durham: 1.24 for a pint of OB!

The quiz machines are fiendish to win anything out of though....
