The Sportsman, Hyde

Not sure if this place has had a recent refit since the last poster visited but I found the pub to be in really good nick. Great range of Rossendale beers on - I had glen top bitter and pitch porter which were both in excellent condition. Very convenient for Hyde FC.

The Queens Hotel, Hyde

Impressive building/impressive pub with several different areas where you can enjoy your ale. 5 beers on from Holts - I had the mild which was in top condition. Well worth a visit.

Cotton Bale, Hyde

Reasonable 'Spoons' situated behind the market place. I had a pint of Robinsons Marathon Runner which was in good condition.

The Centurian, Caister on Sea

Friendly 'estate-type' pub situated next door to a busy holiday camp. Not much to look at both inside and out BUT, on my visit, they did have 3 ales on (big ben, doombar and speckled hen). I tried the doombar which was in good condition.

The Great Western, Wolverhampton

Visited the Great Western last night before the football match (and thanks to JBGatelad for the tip about how to get there quickly from the station - see previous post). The pub was absolutely buzzing. The bar staff were brilliant considering how busy it was....very friendly as well. I tried the 3 Holdens beers - Bitter, Golden Glow and Special - and all were in top condition. Plenty of rail memorabilia adorning the walls plus roaring open fires. This place is a gem!

Globe, Liverpool

A vibrant city centre pub that was very busy on our Saturday lunchtime visit. The choice of beers was good, as was the quality.

The Roscoe Head, Liverpool

The Roscoe Head is a gem. We were the first people in on a Saturday morning (the door magically opened as I walked around the corner) and found the 3 room pub to be in excellent condition, everything in its place, fires on, menus out with a smiling, friendly lady waiting to serve us. 6 beers to choose from and I tried the Tetleys, Rudolph Reward and Rosey Nosey - all in splended condition. Well worth a visit.

The Dispensary, Liverpool

2011 POTY? I can only assume The Dispensary were awarded triple bonus points for having the most aggressive barman in Liverpool. A party of 8 of us went in there on a very quiet Saturday lunchtime, ordered our drinks (George Wrights Mild for me) and then went to sit in the raised area where 1 other chap was already sitting. One of our party then had the temerity to put his coat on a spare table "TABLES ARE FOR DRINKS AND SEATS ARE FOR BUMS AND COATS" blasted the aggressive one, pointedly slapping the table then the seat with the palms of his hands just to confirm to us what a table and seat looked like. When politely questioned as to why he was so angry he growled more pearls of wisdom about being able to do as he likes. And with that we were off, drinks untouched. I guess he could be a novelty act in these parts?..I'm not sure.

The Plasterers Arms, Norwich

Recently visited this sympathetically refurbed pub and it is now another absolute gem in the already excellent drinking city of Norwich. 15 (many local) ales to have a go at served by a knowledgeable and friendly barmaid. On my visit all were in fine condition, my favourite being the Northcote Cow Tower.

The Fat Cat, Norwich

If any Landlord/Manager is struggling for trade they could do worse than spend a couple of hours in The Fat Cat just to see how it's done. An amazing selection of Ales plus as plentiful supply of filled rolls in case your peckish. It's easy to see how the pub wins so many awards.

The Alexandra Tavern, Norwich

Wonderful corner local in a little pocket of Norwich that is blessed with real ale pubs. Friendly staff as well. You could easily spend the day in here drinking the delicious CHB.

The Kings Arms, Norwich

I've been going in here for years now, mainly on evenings when Norwich are at home, and I'm pleased to report that on my latest visit (Wed 190908) nothing has changed - in other words the ale is still zinging (I had Oulton Nautilus and Wolf Coyote), you can still take your chips in, service is still excellent (even though the pub was packed) and overall it's still one of the top ale houses in Norwich which, as we all know, is no mean feat.

The Adam and Eve, Norwich

Well, this pub could be an absolute cracker - but I've never been made to feel welcome here. The woman who has served me on the last few occasions that I have been in (Landlady?) seems to resent Customers for some reason.....waste of time trying to strike up a conversation with her as, if you're lucky, you'll get a snappy, one word answer.

However, the Mauldon's Moletrap is a good pint (although it should be at 3 a pint) and overall, the pub is well worth a visit for the building alone.

The Wig and Pen, Norwich

I've been going in this pub now for a number of years and the quality of the Real Ale (mainly from local breweries) is always excellent. Superb ambience with a top Landlord as well who knows what he's doing. If you fancy a snack, try the jacket wedges with chilli and cheese.............

The Bull and Butcher, Fenny Stratford

Visited The Bull & Butcher on 12 Aug 2008. Well kept pub with a splendid beer garden around the back. 2 real ales available - Youngs Bitter and Jennings Cumberland. I tried both and they were in good condition.

The Red Lion, Bletchley

Visited The Red Lion on Tuesday 12 Aug 08. Friendly Landlord who had 2 Real Ales on - Wadworth 6X and Dartmoor Best. I had a few pints of the Dartmoor which was in good nick. Fantastic outdoor entertainment watching narrowboat novices attempting to negotiate 2 lock gates and a swingbridge!
