I went in here yesterday twice, primarily to waste a bit of time and had 2 CAMRA vouchers to use up. It was my first visit to Hyde never mind this pub. First visit was at 12:30, quite quiet, Elland - Amnesia wasn't a very good pint, nothing to do with the condition though, just an average beer. Managed to stick wi-fi on and get a seat, I felt as if I was the youngest in here at 19 and seemed to be the only one drinking at the tables, everyone else drinking coffee, the atmosphere rather flat.

Second visit was at 4:10, having been to Denton to watch a game of football, I again managed to get a table very easily, pint of Titanic - Deck the Halls, a better pint and very cheap, £1.55 with a voucher. Whether its just the town itself or this pub but it felt a bit boring for a Spoons.

Its worth a visit, the beer selection was good and I'd have tried more had I not got just £3.10 on me.

The Cotton Bale is by far the best pub in central Hyde which doesn't mean it's outstanding, which says a lot about the other pubs in the town... At least you don't have to listen to endless, cacophonic karaoke performed by Hattersley Carousers and Newton Imbibers Anonymous - and the selection of real ales can be good. The latter is by no means guaranteed though, as the manager and bar staff seem reluctant to change barrels promptly. The kitchen staff are up to the job these days - this wasn't always the case. Most Wetherspoon's pubs suffer from slow service and this one is no exception. My biggest gripe is that the staff are too inexperienced to deal with the foulmouthed, umbrageous, Neanderthals who congregate at the bar at weekends and spoil the atmosphere for the majority.

I visit the Cotton Bale usually an average of once a week. Always a good selection of beers available, in good form and I have no issues to grind. One of the more consistant Spoons pubs in Greater M/CR.

hi, my name is darren and i took over this pub in febuary, i have been reading through the comments of how this pub use to be run and im quite shocked it was aloud to be this bad.
it sets a completely different picture to the pub it is now, good food, good atmosphere, good beer and good prices!
i have 11 traditional ales and 1 traditional cider that are always changing ranging from 3.4% to 8.5% all of which are in peak condition.
all of the old staff have gone and with them there bad habits, in ther place is a happy, friendly bunch that know their ales and their customers.
so please if your in the area do pop in for a pint or two and see how the place has changed from 2 years ago....
....hope to see you soon,

Darren.
