This is a great pub with a wide choice of Cains beers. I suggest have several half pints so that you can try a little of everything before you are in no state to remember what you've had! Fabulous tiled interior & nice relaxed atmosphere. happytyskie - 20 Jul 2008 10:28
I was served a very poor pint of Cains Dark Mild here this week. I took it back to the Bar person who grudgingly exchanged it for a pint of 2008; they didn't pour it properly and told a colleague to 'top it up' after I waited for the drink to settle. OK, so the bar person was tired my point it however that the "Tiled Room" was full of international guests and I thought what a thoroughly poor customer/visitor experience for any of our guests to have experienced in the hands of Charmless Barperson of the Year. Put it this way: Charmless Barperson would be their written warning if they worked for me. Finally, the men's restroom still ranks as one of the most disgusting this side of Hades, it is still truly vile. in4 - 9 Jul 2008 19:54
Fine flagship Cains pub in the City Centre near Queen Square and next door to The Marriott Hotel. You can choose from Bitter, Mild, FA, IPA or the 2008 Ale celebrating Liverpool's achievement as European Capital of Culture. Do be sure to visit the magnificent ornate tiled room downstairs - this part of the building was previously the headquarters of Pearl Assurance. Dr Duncan was the first Medical Health Officer in Liverpool in the 1800's and these are interesting framed panels dotted round the pub giving more information. This is another central Liverpool pub that is worth visiting, with its cental location making it an ideal start or finish point for a crawl JohnBonser - 8 Jul 2008 12:45
