It's okay for what it is - being another place that was not originally a pub. Ale selection was pretty limited and quality just about passed mustard.

Visited last September and just realised I hadn't made an entry on here. Nice enough place but ale selection not very adventurous; from memory there were 2 or 3 nationals plus Shropshire Gold by Salopian. Nothing wrong with the pint.

I get the feeling that this pub is quite food orientated, but it certainly welcomes and attracts drinkers. The pub gives a history of Doctor Duncan (Liverpool and Britain's first 'medical officer'). Only two ales on, Black Sheep Best Bitter and Jennings Cumberland Ale, a couple of Handpulls with Pedigree advertised were off. I went for the Black sheep, which tasted nice and was very well kept and clean looking, but a bit steep at 3.60. The barmaid was reasonably friendly, but in a 'I am happy for your custom' type of friendly. From the outside this looks like it would be a proper pub with the Cains brewery logo but it didn't really have much character to it I thought. I may come back to try a clean pint of the Cumberland Ale but wouldn't go out of my way.

Passed on my way to Lime Street Station. I had read about this one, so thought it prudent to visit.

Nice interior, especially the tiled room off the main bar.

OK pint of Black Sheep.

We passed Doctor Duncans yesterday and decided to peer through the window to see what was on. Dark Side of the Moon from Purple Moose tempted us in. Also on were Salopian Shropshire Gold, Marstons Pedigree, Jennings Cumberland Ale & Black Sheep Best Bitter. Its' the same old Doctor Duncans. But the ale range is improving.
