One London pub that seems to be bucking the trend of falling trade is the Marquis of Westminster, a corner pub that is by far and away the best "local" of any of the pubs in Pimlico. In addition to its own loyal band of followers The Marquis thrives on the passing trade provided by tourists staying in neighbouring three star hotels. There is plenty of banter from the friendly and long serving bar staff who provide not only a degree of degree of intimacy and continuity, but also snappy table service for those eating from a simple, not extensive but excellent value for money menu. Timothy Taylor Landlord and London Pride sell heavily but there is also a long wine list.

I wasn’t that impressed with this place as I found the barman to be inattentive and the clientele to be pretentious.

Pride and Spitfire were available during my visit along with a standard and premium draught selection. There is a staircase leading down to a restaurant and cocktail bar, but I passed up the opportunity to take a look.

The plasma screen was off and there is no Sky Sports, but there was some sitar music playing through the speakers which isn’t really on my list of things I like in pubs.

On a plus note the barmaid was friendly, but I will not be returning.

Nice pub, pleasant friendly staff, limitied ale selection, but the TT Landlord was not too bad, though the London Pride was not good at all. The food look ok, though i didnt try it. Quite alot of suits, the poncy estate agent types, of thats what they looked like and large number of tourists. Much better than the Prince of Wales which i tried before.

I should add the reason I know about the comings and goings and timings so well is that I have been using the place regularly ever since Youngs/Charlie Wells started to first mess around with the Buckingham in Petty France, and then completely ruin what was a lovely old proper pub.

The transformation of this old corner boozer over the past couple of years has been staggering. It's gone from lurking at the bottom of a rank pile of Pimlico pubs to being head and shoulders above the rest.
Maybe it's the tourists, who previously stayed away in their droves but are drawn in from neighbouring hotels by such innovations as table service and food that while not cheap is what they expect a trad pub to provide, that have upset those who hanker for the dark old days, but the Marquis has moved on.
The Timothy Taylor Landlord is a prime pint, while the London Pride is popular enough, especially with tourists hooked on the name, to ensure its turnover, essential in a non Fullers house.
Local office workers tend to dominate at lunchtimes and from around five, followed by a steady stream of tourists and locals
Food is served 12 to 3 and 5 to 10, while closing time is 11.30 Mon - Thur with midnight extensions on Fri and Sat.
