Nice enough inside, some big plasmas, nice enough crowd, good prices. There is a blonde barmaid who needs to be pushed out the door though and a manager who needs a dry slap. Busy (but not crowded) and she is the only staff member on, 10 mins to get a drink. She makes a dog's breakfast of porung a Guinness and it tastes the worse for it. She doesn't aknowledge the fact you are looking to get a drink (no peripheral vision, god knows if she has spotted you, and no I was not waving a twenty note around like I was in a strip joint) and they will not get more regular custoemrs if they neglect anyone who is not a regular to serve the regulars when it is bloody well my turn to get served. Smiling and fawning over regulars at the pool table end of the bar while treating others like something on her shoe is not good customer service. Grrrrrrr.

I watched the Carling Cup final here (24/02/08), arrived in good time to find a table, and ordered a pint and food half an hour before kick off. Even before most of the crowds had arrived I had to wait 15 minutes to get served because only one of three tills was working. The staff were also slow and didn’t seem to speak English very well. My food didn’t arrive ’til 15 minutes into the first half of the match (45 mins after I’d ordered it) and it was wrong. I asked for it to be changed and it took another half an hour and three requests for it to reappear. Finally, when it arrived midway through the second half it was wrong again. All in all, I would say it was probably the worst pub experience of my life. Not only did it take an extraordinarily long time to get served drinks and food, but the staff were unhelpful, incompetent and unapologetic. If you want to get pissed off rather than pissed, this is the place for you.

IT HAS NOW RE-OPENED. New landlord who has truly turned this place around. Great atmosphere, doubles with mixer for around £3.50-£3.80 and late licence. Brilliant!!!!

The pub was closed for a good few months and many of us waited with baited breath to see what the horse and doom would become. Surprisingly its the same as it was in name only. The new Horse and Groom is bright airy and welcomeing. It has some very pretty staff who are competant polite and accomadating. The pub is packed with entertainments ranging from pool tables and gaming machines to Friday night Karaoke and DJs on Saturday and Sundays. With a large selection of drinks and decent fair being sold (including deals such as two meals for £7 monday to saturday )till 9pm every day this new pub will go from strength to strength. They have already implemented the Smoke free Zone policy and people have accepted it. There are plans for seating at the back and a strick over 21s policy is ahered to in the evening. Families are however welcome and well catered for during the day. Take a trip to the Horse and Groom you may be pleasently surprised.

The Horse and Groom has reopened and is transformed. It's been given the TLC that it deserves, and is also a completely no smoking pub. It's bright, with comfy chairs, new pool tables although bizarrely, no door in the gents cubicle. It is Streatham after all... ;)
