Not closed!! Very welcoming (not just one, but all the staff). Only two real ales on, but good ones and very cheaply priced for London. Good food too, served with a smile. And quiet but comfortable. What's not to like?

Went to this pub with some of my closest pals to watch the boxing match Froch vs. Groves. We were all having a great time, got there 7pm sharp to get some of the famous pre-boxing atmosphere with the locals. We all had a good few drinks each and got one before the fight started. In the middle of the fight the barman came over and told us we either buy another drink or we would have to leave. Outrageous behaviour!

Definitely not closed, but not exactly overly furnished inside. Possibly because of the England World Cup game in the evening, but furniture was at a premium.
Very limited lunchtime menu (World Cup bar snacks at 2 per option - not too bad considering) and an uninspirational selection of beer. Had a somewhat vinegary pint of John Smiths.
Great place to watch the football if you're a lager drinker, but I won't be heading back in a hurry.

Dont normally write these but thought had to put something on to warn people about this place. Took my mum for lunch there on Monday, without doubt the worst customer service ever seen in a pub. Ordered 2 dishes with a side order of chips. The 2 main dishes took 35 minutes to arrive, and the extra chips didnt turn up-till the meal was finished. Lasagne was burnt, with the side salad being non existent..
The young idiot barman was very rude, and when we asked to see the manager he went downstairs, came back and said "yeah she in the kitchen now she be up bout 20 minutes". Not exactly good behaviour from a manager. We left before she came up, safe in the knowledge we would never return!

Went in the during the week footy was on the box.No atmosphere, did notice some of the idiots looking at you as if you had three heads.People like that dont wory me,but for someone less robust it could be intimidating.Crapbeer and crap service. Will avoid due to the beer, better off going to the Five bells!

Not tried it in the week but at weekends probably not the place for a relaxing drink unless you like getting eye-balled when you go to the toilet. Although opens late and this place can seem like a good idea after six pints.

Nice enough inside, some big plasmas, nice enough crowd, good prices. There is a blonde barmaid who needs to be pushed out the door though and a manager who needs a dry slap. Busy (but not crowded) and she is the only staff member on, 10 mins to get a drink. She makes a dog's breakfast of porung a Guinness and it tastes the worse for it. She doesn't aknowledge the fact you are looking to get a drink (no peripheral vision, god knows if she has spotted you, and no I was not waving a twenty note around like I was in a strip joint) and they will not get more regular custoemrs if they neglect anyone who is not a regular to serve the regulars when it is bloody well my turn to get served. Smiling and fawning over regulars at the pool table end of the bar while treating others like something on her shoe is not good customer service. Grrrrrrr.

I watched the Carling Cup final here (24/02/08), arrived in good time to find a table, and ordered a pint and food half an hour before kick off. Even before most of the crowds had arrived I had to wait 15 minutes to get served because only one of three tills was working. The staff were also slow and didnt seem to speak English very well. My food didnt arrive til 15 minutes into the first half of the match (45 mins after Id ordered it) and it was wrong. I asked for it to be changed and it took another half an hour and three requests for it to reappear. Finally, when it arrived midway through the second half it was wrong again. All in all, I would say it was probably the worst pub experience of my life. Not only did it take an extraordinarily long time to get served drinks and food, but the staff were unhelpful, incompetent and unapologetic. If you want to get pissed off rather than pissed, this is the place for you.

IT HAS NOW RE-OPENED. New landlord who has truly turned this place around. Great atmosphere, doubles with mixer for around 3.50-3.80 and late licence. Brilliant!!!!

The pub was closed for a good few months and many of us waited with baited breath to see what the horse and doom would become. Surprisingly its the same as it was in name only. The new Horse and Groom is bright airy and welcomeing. It has some very pretty staff who are competant polite and accomadating. The pub is packed with entertainments ranging from pool tables and gaming machines to Friday night Karaoke and DJs on Saturday and Sundays. With a large selection of drinks and decent fair being sold (including deals such as two meals for 7 monday to saturday )till 9pm every day this new pub will go from strength to strength. They have already implemented the Smoke free Zone policy and people have accepted it. There are plans for seating at the back and a strick over 21s policy is ahered to in the evening. Families are however welcome and well catered for during the day. Take a trip to the Horse and Groom you may be pleasently surprised.

The Horse and Groom has reopened and is transformed. It's been given the TLC that it deserves, and is also a completely no smoking pub. It's bright, with comfy chairs, new pool tables although bizarrely, no door in the gents cubicle. It is Streatham after all... ;)

Extremelly smokey. Not a very nice crowd, didn't feel welcomed let's say that! Pool tables not in great condition. Don't go there unless forced to!

A bit like being on a ferry.

not he greatest pub the world - bit tatty, bit grubby and smokey with that pervasive smell of stale beer and fags. The food is average (at best) . NOt bad for watching the football in but there are many better bars in the area

I was in here 20 years ago when I was 18 and a massive fight broke out, spilling over into the car park. I was in again a few months ago and another one started! 20 years have passed, and its even burned down in between and nothing has changed!!

Better on the inside than out. Great for watching the footy or rugby, or both as there are so many screens. Clean, colourful and newish decor. Best seats in the house are as you walk in facing the big screen with the pint glass stands on the arms. Nice looking bar maids. Random events such as Polish disco gets extra marks..

A lively pub for the younger lager drinker. Video jukebox 3 pool tables and extensive sports screens adding to this effect, so expect to see lots of bling and burberry. The pubs stays open til 12 each night , but is remarkably free from a late surge of drunks. There are far worse pubs in streatham
