On the outskirts of Woking and a neat little find. Beer choice was average. But a worthwhile eating spot so better than main town. Or if simply having a walk by the river.

I've got to say I agree with the comments below regarding the service here. I've called in to this pub many times, but only because it's close to where I live, not because it's any good. It's a nice location, big garden by the canal but the service is always, without exception, diabolical. Many times I've seen people three deep at the bar and only one person serving, which wouldn't be so bad if the staff gave were proficient but they seem to specialise in recruiting half wits who don't give a damn about the customers.
Today I called in to see if things had changed since my last visit; long queue at the bar(at 3.30 in the afternoon), one member of staff who served one person then disappeared out the back; beautiful spring day but no one could sit in the garden as all the benches are stacked up down the side of the pub. I walked out (again). Unbelievable.

Although this pub is my local geographically, I hardly ever use it because of the lack of bar staff and the long wait for drinks at the bar that this causes. The last two times I tried, the queue was so long I left and went to another pub instead. As I hadn't been in for six months or so, I gave it another try this week and all I can say is nothing has improved. It's a shame because it is an otherwise nice pub in a good location. As it is a beefeater I think they prefer people only to use the restaurant, as the drinks ordered from the restaurant seem to take priority over those served at the bar to non-diners.

Beefeater chain pub in a nice old building (with modern hotel alongside). Busy on a sunny day due to waterfront location, and often not enough staff to deal with demand. Normally two real ales on. Food is so so - the restaurant upstairs has an extended menu and more choice of seating.
