I am delighted to report that the Greenfield reopened in October 2011. It is a far better pub now than it has been in the recent past, and was pleasingly busy with an older crowd and good atmosphere on my last visit. I've also sampled the Sunday lunch carvery, which was magnificent, but I would recommend booking as it is very popular. Only one slight negative for some, is the fact that there is only one real ale pump.

This is a bit of a rough and ready pub. You won;t find any home cooked food or real ale here! What you will find is a busy pub with a lot of characters in the bar, a bit ike an alternative Wetherspoons during the day!
There is a quieter and more relaxing lounge area, where there is often a bit of an older and less boisterous crowd of an evening.

Very handy for the shops and the bus station. A comofrtable old fashined type pub, with a good range of drinks and the biggest and tastiest Ploughman's I've ever had. Seems to do good raost dinners as well!

A horrible place. The Stella did not taste like Stella at all. The Heineken was disgusting. All served in plastic glasses even in the afternoon. I can only assume that anyone who goes regularly, or has more than one drink, has no taste buds - or probably no taste. Avoid unless you are happy to drink slops because it;s cheap.

Lady of the Lake on as one of four handpump ales - very nice pint. The food was good too. It was lovely sitting in the garden in the sunshine with great views of the castle. We would go back!

I agree that the pub is histroic and interesting and appears to need a bit of a clean up. The beer was just OK, and there was an interesting collection of characters in the bar on a quiet Monday night, incluidng a Hotel Manager on a cruise ship, waiting to start work the enxt day, and the pub chef! The pub does look like it has seen better days, but the city centre needs places like this!

The Platform Tavern, Southampton
Visite don quiet Mondya night, 4 real ales were on, incluidng Halcyon Daze from the guest brewery (Hopback). A lot of character inside, and some very comfortable seats! Looks like a good pub for music too, judging from the posters, but there wasn;t any when we were there.

A nice pub with a good atmosphere and some interesting photos and stuff on the walls. Not the best pub in town, especially now the Scarlets have moved from Stradey Park, but far, far, far from being amongst the worst!

A striaght forward modern chain pub. The one majore advantage it has is its location on Sandy Water Park, and it's large car park. It also serves ale, quite rare in Llanelli, and it's nice outside on a sunny Summer evening watching the sun go down and the wildlife on the lake. The food and beer are OK, nothing special, and th eplace is perfectly adequate for a pleasant hour or so.

Great rooms, but not impressed with the pine furniture. The Honey Monster tasted a bit off, but the Special was OK. Very quiet on a Saturday night, no atmosphere, but probably better when there are more people there.

Quite busy ona Sunday afternoon about 4.30, but the locals reckoned it was quiet! Friednly place, only Doombar on tap for ale drinkers, but a good selection fo other drinks. Good phots and memorabilia around the walls. The menu looked good - lamb hotpot special particularly - but food not served until 6pm so we didn;lt ry it out!

A nice pub with a maritime feel, very apporpriate to its location. The usual range of St Austell ales are well kept, and the food is very good. We would visit again, and might even stay!

A fantastic little pub. The beer was excellent - real ales included Honey Monster, Tribute and Tinners. The beer garden at the back is beautifully kept and huge! There is an unintrusive large screen TV, pool table, dart board, retractable remote controleld awnings at the front for when the rain starts, and good food. The toilets are spotless and the staff and customers very friendly.

Went in on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty busy. There was a full selection of ales available, all marked up on a large blackboard and graded 1 (light) to 5 (dark), as well as showing the ABV's. There were a lot of 5's, obviously testament to the landlord's tastes! there were a couple of light beers, however, and we enjoyed an excellent pint of Legend of the Wear whilst sampling two of the tasty pies.

The Spread Eagle is a pub that is looking a bit tatty. There was no real ale and the restaurant was closed. However, there was a good atmosphere and a good range of ages in the pub early on a Saturday evening. There was football on which may have helped!

The pub seemed a bit out of the way, but plenty of people were walking past outside! It's a fine building, with plenty of space and a beer garden. When we arrived, a huge alsatian started barking at us and ran across, but he was only being friendly! The landlord looked hard as nails, but hewas friendly too. I don't know what's happened here in the past, but the walls were adorned with posters warning of dire consequences for all sorts of infringements! A blackboard promised that bar food was coming soon. The Marston's Burton bitter was very acceptable. This pub could be superb, if the brewery knew what market they wanted to cater for. At the moment though, it's just OK.

A very good Wetherspoons pub with a wide range of real ales, including Ruddles Best and Pendle's Witches Brew. Plenty of room, even on a busy Saturday night.

The New Inn is a smart looking Robinson's pub on Manchester Road, close tot he station. Although the interior of the pub is not quite as smart as the exterior, it is very comfortable. There were three real ale pubs when we visited, and the beer was excellent. We sampled the Cumbrian Way and the Dark Hatters. The toilets were nice and clean and there was lively conversation amongst the local regulars.

The Spice Island Inn, Portsmouth
I had a good pint of IPA in here, but I would have to say I preferred the Still and West next door. THe Spice Island doesn;t seem quite as cared for, there were glasses and rubbish left on tables which were still there when we left 40 minutes later.

The Still and West, Portsmouth
I drank an excellent pint of Discovery and a very good pint of (the former) Gale's HSB. Friendy staff and quick service, even though it was quite busy and a Saturdya night.
Also went into the Spice Island Inn and must agree with idc that the Still has more character and a far better view. The food looked nice too.

The sign on the door still says food served until 9.00pm, although the kitchen seems to close at 8.30! Two people were allowed to order their food at 8.27! Good ales, well kept, and we found the staff to be very good, though some were more chatty than others. Good all round pub.

Popped in for a swift half and ended up staying for two hours! A wonderful pub found by accident! Also, a lovely friendly welcome from the girl behind the bar who remembered what we were drinking whe we went up for the second round!

Not very nice. Berr was poor and very expensive. Seems to be aiming to rip tourists off. Miserable and unfriendly staff who looked as though they wished they were somewhere else. After one mouthful of my pint, I also wished I was somewhere else!

An excellent pub. A great selection of drinks, including six real ales, not to mention a large number of single malts! We went in every night, didn't try the food but it looked great! Very friendly staff as well. A lovely change from some of the frankl;y horrible Inverness bars.

This is a fantasic pub. No doub the bad reviews have come from people who prefer cavernous and soulless chain boozers, like most of the awful examples on Friar St. I used to live in Reading but never went to the Retreat in those days as I didn't know it was there! Now I pop in whenever I'm visiting as it's the way all pubs should be - great beer, pool, darts, and bags of atmosphere! The only reason i haven't given it full marks is because of the gents - but what can you expect in a traditional backstreet pub!

Plough and Harrow, Murton
The dingy dump across the road has, fortunately, shut down. The Plough remains a reasonable pub, a good choice of food, some well kept real ales and some nice outdoor seating for the good weather.
The upper and lower bars are quite different in character, perhaps hardly surprising as I was told the upper bar was once the landlord's living room in times past!
