Sign outside advertising 5 Real Ales. Only 2 on sale however, Woodfordes and Doom Bar. Not a beer drinkers venue.
6 Mar 2015 11:11
Nice location, but apparently a Woodfordes tied house these days, with nothing else on when we called.
25 Aug 2014 14:58
Green Jack + some other ales. Prices a little on the high side, but an OK place. CAMRA Local pub of the year 2014.

Never Turn Back, Caister on Sea
Nice Ex Lacons pub, of unusual design and practically on the beach. Good atmosphere, even in the depths of winter you will get good real ales - also reasonably priced food, but haven't tried that.
22 May 2014 18:00
Humpty Dumpty Golden Gorse in average condition. Strange pricing - halves charged at 25% more than pints?!
16 Mar 2014 17:28
In hands of new tenants since last week, but unfortunately still Enterprise Inns; Excellent T. Taylors Golden Best on this first run out.
16 Mar 2014 17:25
Agree with the comment about the service recently, definitely needs seeing to. Beer prices are all the same £3.40, so I ended up paying the same for mild as I would have for a strong ale - weird. Also, the staff appear to charge considerably different higher prices for halves??
The beer is usually excellent, but this is a place now trading on past reputation, it appears.
15 Mar 2014 17:50
Greene King only, on this visit, so didn't stop. Pity, it seems a tidy pub except for the lack of decent ales.
15 Mar 2014 17:41
The Lamb and Flag, Blagdon Hill
Good food, and a good range of Ales & Cider. A very busy pub though, with way too few bar staff on our visit.
31 Jul 2013 15:48
Above average pub offering properly cooked meals - no oven chips here. Would have rated higher, but as a previous reviewer noted, only two ales, and both from GK.
10 Jul 2013 11:09
Beer range OK, but food was pretty grim. Dried up tasteless oven chips and overcooked peas, plus a piece of flavourless encrusted fish wasn't my idea of a meal, particularly at the price. A pub living on past glories, I would suggest.
4 Jul 2013 20:38
Good range of reasonably priced beers, including Palmers and Old Peculier. More to it than just a spot for beer cognoscenti though, a very comfortable and welcoming pub.
4 Jul 2013 20:25
Dear God, this is an awful place. Squalid, filthy outside, knee deep in cigarette butts and broken plant containers outside, and little better inside. You'd have to be really desperate to drink here I reckon.
4 Jul 2013 20:20
It took some time to find the barmaid, she was out at the back chatting. Sullen and disinterested service, but the beer was OK. Prices sky high however, even for this area. Apart from two people having a coffee I was the only customer all the time I was there. I wouldn't be in a hurry to return. How did this place manage to get into the Good Beer Guide, I wonder?
13 Jun 2013 16:43
Exceptional range of ales; six in a rural pub is also unusual. The quality appeared to be very good. Recommended.
28 May 2013 19:11
No longer any pretence of being a pub. No brewery choice; and effectively now a Woodfordes tied restaurant, and clone of the nearby Fur and Feather.

The St. John's Head, Great Yarmouth
Beer quality had improved enormously on a recent visit and the cask Worthington was excellent. Well worth calling in to see whats on the pumps.
7 Mar 2013 17:15
On my visit three well kept ales and a 'new' landlord. Things change - I'd certainly go back here now.
9 Feb 2013 17:44
Food presented well, but badly cooked, using what appeared to be frozen & reheated meat that had been through a slicing machine. The rest of the meal was no better. Beer was expensive, limited in range, and of indifferent quality. I'm left wondering what's happened to this place- It's certainly not the Three Pigs of even a year ago, and is miles away from the excellent restaurant of two or three years back.
9 Feb 2013 17:28
Average pub surroundings, but Very expensive food and beer. Both were OK, but not much value in evidence.
16 Mar 2012 08:36
Friendly and with excellent quality ales, the best pub we in found in Dover, by a long way.
14 Mar 2012 06:58
The convenience, location, and the building itself are excellent. The beer is of indifferent quality however, and on our recent visit the food was both highly priced and poorly cooked.
14 Mar 2012 06:51
Most definitely not closed, nice pub with pleasant staff' and a good range of Ales, Ciders, and european lagers.
26 Nov 2011 20:33
Novel, and you'll probably not see its like again. See others previous comments re Woodfordes .
26 Nov 2011 20:26
Offhand and indifferent bar staff, clear that this is a locals pub, and they like to keep it that way. Beer OK, but thats all.
26 Nov 2011 16:24
The Cape of Good Hope, Warwick
Good basic boozer, with good ales plus nice food, but as mentioned, beware that mixed grill!
29 Aug 2011 11:44
Good ales, but the staff weren't the most experienced; and the fish was very tired, on the wednesday evening I visited.
15 Aug 2011 16:42
Excellent food and a good range of well kept ales - worth the detour.
15 Aug 2011 16:32
Good perry, didn't try the ales or food, though have eaten here before and meals expensive, even for Bath.
7 Aug 2011 21:03
The Waggon and Horses, Batheaston
Good selection of handpumped beers in good condition, and a friendly welcome. The terrace and garden are what make the pub a little bit special, though..
7 Aug 2011 20:58
A real local, with decent food. The only minus is the beer prices, which are expensive for the area.
9 Jul 2011 17:19
Lounge Bar popular with tourists, decent beer if you're using the station. Public bar very much for locals, particularly boatyard staff, who make it clear they don't welcome non-regulars.
9 Jul 2011 17:16
Shoulder of Mutton, Strumpshaw
On the plus side the beer is excellent, but as a previous reviewer noted, if you are not one of the motley crew that line the bar expressing themselves in 'colourful' language, you're unlikely to feel at ease here.
9 Jul 2011 17:11
Good outlet for Humpy Dumpty ales, with above average pub food.
9 Jul 2011 17:06
Recently reopened, with an excellent choice of four ales, all in very good condition. Bottled Belgian beers are on sale, for those who like that sort of thing... This pub has been really well refurbished, and is now arguably the best real ale house in the area.
18 Jun 2011 17:36
Usual boring GK beers tempered by some interesting guest ales. Good reasonably priced food, a rarity for the city.
24 Oct 2010 21:12
Good value food, and very expensive beer - even the Jupiter is priced to make your eyes water; curiously the wine is relatively reasonable. Worth a visit if you like Belgian specialities.
24 Oct 2010 21:03
First & foremost a restaurant, with top end food. Good Beer though, with up to 3 real ales.
1 Aug 2009 11:31
Excellent real ale house, good value beer and snacks, and a wide range of Cider/Perry. if in Gorleston a must visit pub.
30 Jul 2009 21:21
The Gate Hangs High, Hook Norton
Excellent accommodation, beer and food. Suggest it's a good idea to check out opening times though, before visiting.
30 Jul 2009 21:11
Friendly, with good Ale and a fire imported from Hades.
Didn't try the food, unfortuately, but it looked and smelt delicious.
24 Apr 2008 21:07
One of the Great Pubs of Scotland, excellent ales, Exceptional Food, and a real fire. Worth going to the Black isle for this place alone.
24 Apr 2008 21:04
Rare seafront pub serving excellent real ale, not much atmosphere, but they have really tried with this place, and in Yarmouth thats pretty unusual.
24 Apr 2008 20:56

24 Apr 2008 20:56
Visited for a meal, long on quantity, but short on quality, meals cold, overcooked, and in one case fish on the point of going off.
12 Dec 2007 12:22
Good ales, but very pricey. Excellent food. More of a restaurant than a pub.
20 Sep 2007 12:09
Way above the average Wetherspoons, good food, and good beer choice. Keen staff too.
8 Jun 2007 15:04
Agree with previous posts, good pub only let down by restriction to local ales only.
8 Jun 2007 13:00
Good Food, but vegetables have problems as previously described. Real ale (Tribute) was distinctly 'off'and cloudy, changed OK but the pump was left on for the next mug. I noticed most customers avoiding the ale, not hard to see why. Excellent Stella Bock.
4 Feb 2007 20:44
Called in about 7.15 last evening, having rung earlier to see if they served food. The pub was almost deserted, and the bar unattended, apart from a barmaid who I eventually saw chatting into her phone - NO eye contact. I had a look at the menu - good choice, and the beer range - OK. After inspecting the Decor, menu etc several times more it eventually dawned on me I wouldn't get even a beer here - the place was effectively closed. After another ten minutes I left, for the long walk back to town. Fortunately there is an excellent Indian right in the centre of Rochford, I found. I won't be wasting another taxi fare on this place, however.
16 Jan 2007 18:32
New landlord seems to have taken this place by the scruff of the neck and turned it round. Ale in great condition, especially the Bass, and cheap reasonable food. Sky Sport.
4 Jan 2007 22:41
The Railway Tavern, Chelmsford
Good place for a pint and a roll before going home from the station.
4 Jan 2007 22:35
The Original Plough, Chelmsford
Reasonable chice of ales, can't recommend the food though.
4 Jan 2007 22:32
Rough & ready, staff and food OK though. Just don't leave anything on a table for a second.......
4 Jan 2007 22:29
Good food and a great range of ales, a place where the author of Sherlock Holmes stayed when writing, full of atmosphere, and the beer festival is great
4 Jan 2007 22:14
The Fur and Feather Inn, Woodbastwick
The chocolate box setting belies the fact that this a Restaurant which serves beer. Don't expect a warm welcome if you're not dining. (You'll frequently be reminded you haven't placed an order by the staff.) Considering the pub is next to the brewery the beer quality is very disappointing, though it's always changed without a problem. Expensive beer, and food also often poor value .
3 Jan 2007 11:46
OK but overhyped. Beer quality, particularly from the barrel, can be noticeably variable. Specialises in Micro breweries.
3 Jan 2007 11:18
Excellent village inn with good range of real ales and food. Beer festivals and Art displays both worth visiting. The pub is a good local with a pool table.
3 Jan 2007 10:53
Dwindling about sums it up. Beer expensive for the area, but always in good condition.
3 Jan 2007 10:30
Pub has recently been taken over by Batemans. Sadly, not what it was. Ale quality is very variable.
3 Jan 2007 10:28
Good range of beers, in good nick. Friendly, though real ales are only on in the smaller bar, so can get a bit crowded.
3 Jan 2007 10:24
The St. John's Head, Great Yarmouth
Beer range very Archers top heavy, and I must admit it's not my favourite brew. More to the point a beer has been 'off' on my last two visits. Seems to be trading on it's past reputation.
3 Jan 2007 10:20
The Fur and Feather Inn, Woodbastwick
Tourist trap with little local custom. Expensive food, and beer; quality can be highly variable, considering its location.
