The Kings Castle, Canton

Gruesome, lots of middle aged Cardiff City fans wearing baseball caps, to avoid detection when it kicks off

23 Oct 2018 19:26

Thomas Ingoldsby, Canterbury

Two levels Spoons. Accommodation on third floor was good

23 Oct 2018 18:15

The Phoenix, Canterbury

Looks old & traditional from the outside, geared to students inside

23 Oct 2018 18:14

The Old Buttermarket, Canterbury

As with most Nicholson's great interior, ruined by piped loud music

23 Oct 2018 18:13

City Arms, Canterbury

Small one room bar, quirky decoration. Beer good. Worthwhile find

23 Oct 2018 18:12

The Cherry Tree, Canterbury

Student pub. One real cider & London Pride. Small inside, two seating areas, so quite cosy

23 Oct 2018 17:51

The Bell and Crown, Canterbury

Good traditional boozer, close to the City Centre without being on top of it. Worth seeking out, three/four ales on, mine was in very good nick

23 Oct 2018 17:49

Saxon Shore, Herne Bay

One of the smaller Wetherspoon's with not the greatest selection of beer. OK though

23 Oct 2018 17:48

The Philharmonic, Liverpool

because of its uniqueness, well worth seeking out. However, a total tourist trap with awful service.

30 Sep 2018 17:25

The Royal Oak, Kenilworth

Really mixed clientele for all ages. Couldn't complain about the Landlord. Small public bar with pool, larger all through lounge. Tiny bar counter, which means they cant employ more than two staff, not helpful when the person in front of you seems to be ordering a round for the whole pub.

11 Sep 2018 18:53

The Clarendon Arms, Kenilworth

restaurant masquerading as a pub. Mind you, both beer(decent range) and food were faultless

10 Sep 2018 23:43

The Queens Arms, St Just

Marvellous pub, great beer & great food. Friendly unpretentious staff. Would love to live here & have it as my local

8 Aug 2018 19:45

The Bluffs, Hayle

The view from the outside terrace & the front windows is absolutely superb. For a pub owned by the nearby Haven site, the Doombar was very good. The food was surprisingly good as well. One of the best holiday park bars you'll go to.

8 Aug 2018 19:42

The Red River Inn, Gwithian

Nothing special. Beer OK, but food is clearly the reason why people come here

8 Aug 2018 19:40

Bucket Of Blood, Phillack

Clearly not a pub in summer evenings - totally food orientated. Forget getting a table unless you've booked

8 Aug 2018 19:38

The Copperhouse Inn, Copperhouse

large, open plan, couple of beers. OK, nothing else

8 Aug 2018 19:37

The Snowdrop, Lewes

Great find, edge of town but worth it. Two well kept outside areas & very pleasant inside. Good range of 4-5 Ales, plus at least one cider. Food looked a tad on the expensive side. However, all in all - highly recommended.

1 Jul 2018 10:58

The Crown, Sutton

TT's Landlord - £2.80 a pint. Deserves a 9 at least!!

Refurbished & now one bar, surprisingly a good job, retains a local feel. Two ales, three TVs and a dart board. Far more hospitable than it was

28 May 2018 20:02

The Larrick, Marylebone

clearly more a restaurant, than a pub, wouldn't go there again. Served its purpose though as a meeting place pre Wembley

27 May 2018 17:37

The Golden Eagle, Bond Street

classic small & unpretentious pub, not the sort of place you would expect in this area

27 May 2018 17:20

The Gatehouse Tavern, Coventry

Disappointed. Beer range OK. Big focus on the outside garden when I visited Saturday, with a BBQ, probably why.

7 May 2018 12:52

Flying Standard, Coventry

Good place to eat, if they run true to their word that the room on the right is for diners only

7 May 2018 12:44

The Coventry Cross, Coventry

OK inside, but no real beer at all. Lively - watched Haye v Bellow fight. Seems to be the pub for the older female DSS to go - a strange breed.

7 May 2018 12:42

Broomfield Tavern, Coventry

Excellent. Good range of quality beer. 15-20 mins from Coventry city centre - an oasis.

7 May 2018 12:40

The Masons Arms, Hillfoot

Keg Stones or John Smiths Smooth. Why? Awful

8 Apr 2018 11:21

The Hillsborough Hotel, Sheffield

This is really good. Top beer, staff really friendly & excellent food. Really cheap B&B with a marvellous breakfast. Stayed here three times now, can't recommend it highly enough

8 Apr 2018 11:19

The Wellington, Sheffield

Terrific back street pub, traditional inside & excellent beer

8 Apr 2018 11:17

The Ship Inn, Sheffield

Didn't like this. Modernised inside, beer OK. Nothing special

8 Apr 2018 11:16

Shakespeare Hotel, Sheffield

Personally, prefer this to the Fat Cat & Kelham Island Tavern. Great beer, great layout, darts & only £2.60 for my beer.

8 Apr 2018 11:15

Trafalgar Freehouse, South Wimbledon

Faultless, small & over the beaten track, with a really good beer selection for such a small pub. Beer quality is excellent

11 Mar 2018 20:23

The Sultan, South Wimbledon

Ale is top quality & relatively cheap. Two bars, I find the main one a bit bright, prefer the Ted Hughes with it's dartboard

11 Mar 2018 20:21

The Kilkenny, South Wimbledon

Saturday night - no band & empty. Still no ale, but the regulars live off guinness & lager, so that's all right then.

11 Mar 2018 20:19

The King and Castle, Windsor

If you get lucky & find one of the window tables on the first floor - superb. Beer fine. Expensive food for a Spoons though. What a potential booze up if you get there early on royal wedding day. However, no doubt it will be full of people buying a couple of coffees and staying there all day

17 Feb 2018 09:33

East Putney Tavern, Putney

This was a real good find. Great mix of old style & new over three floors, one of those rare new pub builds that have got it right. Will definitely be back. Great for pre-game beers when coming up on the tube

17 Feb 2018 09:30

The Hope, Carshalton

Always busy, no matter the day or time of day. Good mixed clientele. Excellent beer, enough of a range without being too many on offer. Service always friendly. Beware the couple on Wednesdays to drive the punters bonkers by playing sea shanties, with her use of the recorder particularly grating

11 Feb 2018 19:43

Lewes Arms, Lewes

Strange one. If I was on my own, would have loved the front bar. But I was with the missus and son, so didn't. Uncomfortable & slightly smelly in one of the back rooms. Decent pint though

11 Feb 2018 19:40

The Brewers Arms, Lewes

really good meal, with top notch ale

11 Feb 2018 19:38

The Coopers Tavern, Burton-Upon-Trent

unique hostelry with damn good beer

17 Sep 2017 19:45

Old Cottage Tavern, Burton on Trent

an out and out back street locals pub. Good beer, but not a pub I would like to stay for a session

17 Sep 2017 19:44

Prince Alfred, Burton-Upon-Trent

Back again post football! Ale superb, bar staff really friendly & the Karaoke was a hoot!

17 Sep 2017 19:43

The Weighbridge Inn, Burton upon Trent

cracking find, small two room micro pub. Three ales plus cider. More pub like than many micro pubs I''ve been in

17 Sep 2017 19:41

The Duke of Cornwall, Hammersmith

12.00 on a Saturday & soft plastic glasses. Behave. Short pints as well. Tribute only ale on which was OK, nothing more

10 Sep 2017 18:24

THE Distillers, Hammersmith

£4.50 For both Pride & the weak Olivers Island. No wonder it was empty. Comfortable pub though, outrageously priced pub food by the looks of it

10 Sep 2017 18:22

The Chancellors, Hammersmith

Proper pub. Doombar & Atlantic. Three TVs with Sky Sports. Far better pub for Fulham fans than the Crabtree

10 Sep 2017 18:20

The Station Hotel, Ipswich

The main pub for away fans. Better than some away pubs, but other pubs in town are preferred. Note - it closes 3pm-6pm after games on Saturdays

27 Aug 2017 17:08

The Lord Nelson, Ipswich

Just Adnams beer, but in very good nick. Looks like new owners. Nice pub inside

27 Aug 2017 17:07

The Dove, Ipswich

An essential visit for away fans before games at Portman Road. 20 mins walk from the station. Very good range of excellent ale & the home cooked food was a revelation. I had the Balti Shepherd''s Pie - highly recommended. Plenty of seating - inside & out.

27 Aug 2017 17:04

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Yes, the toilets are a disgrace and the outside patio no longer exists. However, beer range focuses on Windsor & Eton, plus Twickenham breweries. You cant fault this beer range at all. Just at times the lack of it!

20 Aug 2017 10:23

Swan Inn, Weymouth

only Spoons I've ever been to that doesn't admit families. Barked at by a local when we entered pointing this out.

15 Aug 2017 11:57

The Golden Lion, Weymouth

thought the food was fine for standard pub grub, as was the Greene King beer. Good service

15 Aug 2017 11:55

Bankes Arms Hotel, Corfe Castle

much better view of the castle than from the Greyhound. Superb pint of Wadworth 6X

15 Aug 2017 11:53

The Halfway Inn, Corfe Castle

very much a food pub. but the ale was fine

15 Aug 2017 11:52

The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers

brilliant pub, however, it has become a tourist magnet. Queues to the bar, but still worth it. Service excellent & beer in tip top conition

15 Aug 2017 11:49

The Rose and Crown, Wimbledon Village

"three pints of mixed please" A - "What's that?" It's a Youngs pub for christ's sake, that should be essential training for all staff!!!!

18 Jun 2017 16:38

The Jubilee, Norwich

superb, close to station & Carrow Road, but far enough away to escape the worst of the travelling hordes. Good range & quality Ales. My son loved the fact that I could get him some Scampi & chips from down the road & the pub would supply plate. cutlery & condiments. Will definitely be back when Fulham are next in town

16 Apr 2017 09:25

The Rocket , Putney

Real nice place to go on the river with family for a drink & a beer. Otherwise - limited beer selection, crap service & plastic glasses on match days. Seating restricted due to people booking tables.

9 Apr 2017 09:19

The Brunswick Inn, Derby

Great range of beers & service in a packed pub was very quick and friendly. Liked the different rooms and also an upstairs lounge that clearly doubles as a function room. Cheap as well. Great start to the evening, shame about the subsequent match result!

5 Apr 2017 11:59

Prince Alfred, Burton-Upon-Trent

beer was fine, but bizarrely found this to be far too comfortable a pub inside. A tad disappointing

2 Feb 2017 16:04

Derby Inn, Burton-Upon-Trent

Great find after the game, good beer & the locals were very sociable

2 Feb 2017 16:02

Devonshire Arms, Burton-Upon-Trent

Friendly pub & good quality ale, also arranged for a taxi to the football ground

2 Feb 2017 16:00

The Roebuck Inn, Burton-Upon-Trent

Decent enough boozer with draft Bass, always a god reason for going into a pub

2 Feb 2017 15:59

The Last Heretic, Burton on Trent

Typical micro pub, small friendly & with good Ale. Barry the local was hilarious!

2 Feb 2017 15:58

The Wellington Arms, Burton Upon Trent

Local's pub, but with accommodation. Just draft pedigree, but that was fine. Two pool tables, darts, juke box & quiz nights. Worth popping n if you are passing

2 Feb 2017 15:56

The Eight Bells, Ewell

Not the pub I happily remember from the 1980s. Abbott & Old Speckled Hen, OK - nothing special. Two seating areas, one designed for dining from the cheap GK menu. The other side with the most horrendous wallpaper known to man & an enlarged public bar.

16 Jan 2017 22:36

The Fox, Putney

if you like sport, this is the pub to go to in Putney, loads of TVs. Ale OK, nothing more as was the food. Devoid of the local rich playthings & a normal pub.

3 Jan 2017 17:16

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Pre & post Fulham games, this is still the best pub in Putney, providing there are enough beers on (not always the case). Desperately needs some TLC - fix the toilets, the leaking taps, more regular ales, draft cider/lager & bring the kitchen back into play. It wouldn't take much to ensure this place remains as the only traditional one left in Putney.

18 Dec 2016 09:45

The Harrow Inn, Cheam

Saturday night is clearly Yoof night, but couldn't grumble about the beer, ale was in god nick

4 Dec 2016 12:43

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

by 12.15 on a Saturday lunchtime, this pub was packed. Had the food - excellent. Love this pub even more now

27 Nov 2016 09:05

The Canton Arms, South Lambeth

Pretentious dump, both sides of the bar. Service rubbish,. Great feelto the pub when you enter, ruined by having to wait for the local henry's to be served their cocktails

13 Nov 2016 18:05

The Mawbey Arms, Lambeth

A step back in time to a back street, purely locals pub. Serves the estate very well. Just one beer, Youngs but it was fine. Chelsea memorabilia throughout hough.

13 Nov 2016 18:03

The Priory Arms, Stockwell

Not a big pub, but roomy enough on a Saturday. Good range of micro beers, mine was in really good nick. Walls covered in beer mats & old pump clips

13 Nov 2016 17:58

The Cavendish Arms, Stockwell

Cracking pub to drink proper beer & watch bands, just beware of VERY short measures on the pints

13 Nov 2016 17:57

The Eagle, Cambridge

Clearly a historical pub, but with historical bits added that don't really seem to be historical (if you know what I mean). Range of Geene King & other brewery beers, my one was fine. Very much a tourist pub though. Whatever you do, don't sit at the table in front of the Watson & Crick photos, otherwise you'll have people gawping at you (or through you anyway).

11 Sep 2016 13:34

The Kings Head, Sawston

Two bars, low beams - could be a cracking pub. I liked it. Accommodation next door in a separate building - good value. Just Green King ale, a tad disappointing but the IPA was fine. Food OK. Very friendly staff. One criticisim - the two TVs loud with music blaring away

10 Sep 2016 20:26

The White Horse, Parsons Green

Good range of interesting ales, 20% discount for CAMRA members. Posh clintellle with money to burn

21 Aug 2016 16:33

The Scott Arms, Kingston

Couldn't complain about the Jurassic Ale, nor the views across to Corfe Castle. A destination pub for diners

14 Aug 2016 16:50

The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers

Simply an unspoilt gem. Spectacular views from the garden out the front. Touristy in the summer, but when a pub is this good, its worth it

14 Aug 2016 16:48

The Bakers Arms, Poole

Very old from the outside, but heavily altered inside. Still, the beer was good and the food very good

14 Aug 2016 16:45

The Clay Pipe Inn, Holton Heath

Three ales in reasonable nick, food pretty good as well. Beware long food queues in the evening as everyone rushes to place orders when the kitchen opens. Newish pub, but has a separate public bar types section with pool and darts

14 Aug 2016 16:43

The Heart and Hand, Brighton

Very small pub, with two Ales & an old juke box. Historic exterior and windows. Lively

31 Jul 2016 09:30

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

Proper pub - good mix of people (all ages), decent atmosphere & good beer. Didn't have the food, but looks very good. Low ceiling. Far half of the pub gets hot though!

31 Jul 2016 09:27

The Squirrels, Duston

Looks promising from the outside, ie "olde worlde", but inside you can see the bars have been built into an extension. Beer OK, but pub dead on a Saturday night

19 Jun 2016 16:23

The Sun Hotel, Preston

Single bar with a decent range of Thwaites beer. Friendly staff. Stayed here, good value for money, even though the room was somewhat basic.

6 Apr 2016 18:22

The Old Black Bull, Preston

Good enough pub with some decent beers on. Preferred the basic snug bar at the front to the more comfortable & far larger lounge bar

6 Apr 2016 18:20

The Market Tavern, Preston

Inside - what looks like a historic boozer. Only two ales on, the XB was almost neat vinegar, the other was fine though. Barmaid was friendly & helpful

6 Apr 2016 18:18

The Black Horse Hotel, Preston

Classic pub interior, topped off by reasonably good ale. An absolute must if you visit Preston

6 Apr 2016 17:55

The Red Lion, Petersfield

A rarity for a Wetherspoons - an actual pub within a pub! Far better than their standard warehouse drinking fare.

2 Apr 2016 08:43

The Eagle and Tun, Birmingham

Clearly work in progress, restoring the pub to (what I assume) was it's former glory. Decent, but small, range of ale. Separate pool & darts room at the bank. A shop is part of the pub as well. desrves to succeed

20 Mar 2016 18:30

Barley Mow, Reigate

Small & friendly local's pub. No real ale - just bottles. OK for a one off visit, but not as a regular haunt.

6 Mar 2016 08:55

Queen Adelaide, Ewell

For an Ember Inn, having to wait nearly an hour for food on a midweek evening from 6.30 is completely unacceptable. What we then got was mediocre at best.

Word of advice - if you want the flat bread pizza, order from the children's menu where its advertised as a kid's pizza.. It's exactly the same & two pounds cheaper!! And you get a pudding!!

Beer range looked reasonable at first, but most were not ready.

Used this pub as my local in the early 1980s, how things have changed!!

3 Mar 2016 05:34

Victoria, Birmingham

Very dark inside the main bar, only one of the bar fronts serves real ale, so you have to push your way through the throng that stay in front of the handpumps. I wish they woulld move to one of the other bars that have more room.

28 Nov 2015 08:17

The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham

Excellent pub, terrific range of ale & cider. Because it's quite small, it makes it feel lively inside, even when it isn't busy. But then it's always busy!

28 Nov 2015 08:14

Edmunds Bar, Birmingham

cant complain on the ale quality. A bit cafe like inside, normally I don't like that style but it works here. Witnesed a very good quiz Wednesday night

28 Nov 2015 08:12

The Old Contemptibles, Birmingham

Good beer, good interior, good food, but bar staff try to ruin it with loud muxak

28 Nov 2015 08:10

The Plough, Three Bridges

Just Doombar, but perfectly drinkable. Sort of two bars, darts, Pool & juke box in what was once the public bar.OK pub.

21 Nov 2015 18:22

The Gander, West Sutton

Potentially, quite a decent pub, despite no ale whatsoever. Quite long & narrow, but plenty of a variety of seating types. Two dartboards & a pool table at one end. Food looks decent value as well. For those who don't like drinking chemical tasteless fizz, there are bottles of London Pride. TVs throughout for sport

21 Nov 2015 11:11

The Avon Packet, Southville

Only two ales - Courage Best & Doombar, but both were fine. Very narrow front bar & separate room at the back. Friendly bar staff. Cheap ham rolls!

8 Nov 2015 17:07

The White Hart Hotel, Todmorden

Quick beer in the upstairs bar, not much choice but that's common in two level 'Spoons. Very civilised, more so than most of this chain

8 Nov 2015 17:04

The Talbot, Burnley

Central bar, serving several different rooms. Comfortable, with TVs, pool table & darts. Beer was first class. Stayed overnight in one of the four rooms - recommended.

8 Nov 2015 16:59

The Bridge Bier Huis, Burnley

good beer, god sized pub not too big, not too small, good combination of seating & vertical drinking. Pies excellent.

8 Nov 2015 16:58

The Argyll Arms, Oxford Circus

Beer - 8. Pub interior - 10. Piped muzak - 0. Note for the management - pubs like this create their own atmosphere & don't need loud music that no-one bar the bar staff wants to hear.

4 Sep 2015 08:38

The Ship, Soho

Not the pub it was, always had decent beer & a slightly seedy atmosphere. The Fullers beer remains (good), but it's been cleaned up & the music has become bland. Hark back to the good old days when the Marquee was open & this pub was busy with punters & often the bands themselves. Ah, nostalgia!

4 Sep 2015 08:25

The Dog and Duck, Soho

The Orwell room upstairs is an oasis of calm in Soho, but they do expect you to eat there. I find Nicholson's food a bit hit & miss, but it was fine here. Truman Runner on in the upstairs bar which was decent

4 Sep 2015 08:22

The Pillars of Hercules, Soho

Small but good range of different beer. Liked the atmosphere of the pub. However, the barman didn't like it when I asked for my pint to be topped up. Dick.

4 Sep 2015 08:19

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Not the pub it was, simply because the gents toilets are a disgrace and have been for months. Embarrassing.

23 Aug 2015 21:35

The Shore Inn, East Wittering

Beer excellent, I had one of the Palmers. Also ate here, the fish was really good as well. If you sit outside on the side, you can see the sea 50-75 yards away. Reasonably famiy friendly as well. Recommended.

2 Aug 2015 14:28

The Viking, Selsey

pleasant enough bar, with western style entertainment club behind. Doombar surprisingly very good

2 Aug 2015 14:25

The Crown, Cricklewood

Main open bar at the front is the busiest, Ton's of space in rooms behind. Only a couple of ales on, but my one was excellent.

I've never seen a conversion quite like this one, merging the pub into the new hotel next door. Impressed.

19 Apr 2015 18:27

The Beaten Docket, Cricklewood

tatty & limited beer range, latter one of the worst I've seen in a 'Spoons.

19 Apr 2015 18:24

The Wellington, Waterloo

Awful. £10 for a basic tasteless burger with a few chips in a tarty container. Bland & tasteless pint of Pride. Piped music blaring across the pub. Avoid like the plague

8 Apr 2015 09:44

Northbrook Arms, East Strotton

Pub looks terrific from the outside, old & atmospheric. However, bright yellow interior & very much geared to diners. Two of the rooms are set for formal dining & there are only 4/5 tables in the main, small bar area. Food not cheap, but good under new management. Small beer selection, but the one I had was in very good nick. Not a pub for serious drinking in.

9 Mar 2015 17:19

Barnstormers, Lostock

For a pub close to the ground, this is better than average - on the beer front anyway. Bar staff friendly & very efficient

15 Feb 2015 20:26

Hen and Chickens, Bolton

A real find. Island bar, with three drinking areas, but stlll felt small & intimate. Good range of six varied ales. Recommended

15 Feb 2015 20:25

The Man and Scythe Inn, Bolton

Old & atmospheric. A few interesting & well kept beers.

15 Feb 2015 20:22

Barristers, Bolton

single bar & room. Good beer. Bizarre walk to the toilets through what appears to be a disused hotel!

15 Feb 2015 20:21

Spinning Mule, Bolton

An interesting mix of main bar, raised area& two side rooms (one with a dartboard!) Beer was on top form as well.

15 Feb 2015 20:18

The Alma, Bolton

Beer range a bit bland if you ask me. Mind you, if it was packed & a band was on - I would think differently!

15 Feb 2015 20:16

The Jolly Gardners, Putney

WTF!!!!!

Quite possibly the most pretentious pub I have ever been to - both sides of the bar. As for the converted garden sheds on the front patio - DO ME A FAVOUR! And blankets to take outside - IT'S NOT A PICNIC AREA!

Beer OK, couldn't argue about that. So 1 point for that & zero for this horrendous place. Still, the posh & snobby locals will love it.

30 Dec 2014 19:32

The Woodman, Carshalton

I found the beer good and the layout/lighting is ideal. However, the absolute deafening music is horndous

30 Nov 2014 21:26

The Fox and Hounds, Carshalton

Service great, but the paint scheme has ripped out all the character from the pub. Won't be back

30 Nov 2014 21:24

The Nightingale, Sutton

Live music on both Friday nights & Sunday afternoons are the best time to visit this pub. Other than tat, a good layout or a quiet pint at other times, beer not too bad

30 Nov 2014 21:23

O'Neills, Sutton

Limited beer - just Doombar. Standard chemical fare otherwise (lager & guiness). Late on a Saturday night is well worth a pint or two - live bands & because the area in front of the "stage" isn't very big, it creates a good atmosphere.

30 Nov 2014 21:21

The Cock and Bull, Sutton

decent enough Fullers beer and live bands on a Saturday night makes this well worth a visit

30 Nov 2014 21:18

Tennents Bar, Glasgow

Famous drinking den & well worth a visit. However, was sad to see the sort of beers I can drink in London, so that drops my mark bya couple of points

23 May 2014 22:05

The Three Judges, Partick Cross

Terrific find. Row of handpumps, all with interesting beers. The pub was very busy for a Monday night, so godk nows what it is like at weekends!

23 May 2014 22:04

The State Bar, Glasgow

Has an old feel to it, although it most certainly isn't. Recommended. Good beer.

23 May 2014 22:02

The Pot Still, Glasgow

As previous posters have said, small two level pub with top quality ale, hundreds of whiskies & excellent service. What more could you want!

23 May 2014 22:01

The Babbity Bowster, Glasgow

Good beer, but a bit trendy for me!

23 May 2014 22:00

The Blackfriars, Glasgow

Adequate range, but good quality beer. Well worth visiting when bands are on

23 May 2014 21:59

The Scotia Bar, Glasgow

Whenever I visit Glasgow, this is on my "must visit" list. Just one proper beer which is drinkable, but nothing else. However, the pub drips 200 years of history. When they have bands down the side, it's simply a fabulous place to be.

23 May 2014 21:55

Steps, Glasgow

A must visit or anyone who appreciates pub history. Unspoilt & unchanged for decades. Real Ale non existent, so just stay for the one beer as I did.

23 May 2014 21:53

The Drum and Monkey, Glasgow

Lovely restored interior & typical god Nicholson's food. Beer choice limited.

23 May 2014 21:51

The Horseshoe Bar, Glasgow

You can't deny it's a unique pub & an essential place to visit when in Glasgow. However, the beer choice is very poor, one of which is the ever present Deuchars. I think the pub is doing business based on it's reputation, which doesn't bear any resembelence to current reality.

23 May 2014 21:50

Willow Walk, Victoria

Small, very cramped & claustrophobic 'Spoons. be wary of tourists with their cases & theatre goers, desperate to nick your seat.

8 May 2014 21:50

The Earl Beatty, Motspur Park

pub serving large residential area, mainly local trade. Beer decent enough & atmosphere seemed OK. good pub for watching sport

5 May 2014 20:57

The Bell Hotel, Aylesbury

Not your standard 'Spoons drinking hanger. Retains clever use of the old rooms, so retains more of a traditional pub atmosphere. Good beer & cheap. I'll be back when I next visit

23 Apr 2014 22:29

The Shakespeare's Head, Holborn

Food arrived very quickly, despite pub being reasonably busy. Good choice of beer. The missus said the ladies were a work of art!

17 Apr 2014 16:53

The Butterchurn, Sutton

Packed today with fans of the "Dark Side" watching the game. Family had a meal, which was surprisingly good & definitely value for money. No real ale - just a choice between John Smiths (which I wouldn't give to my worst enemy) or Ruddles Best. Despite the lack of beer & number of Walham Green's finest, I do really like this pub.

13 Apr 2014 19:51

The Hope, Carshalton

friendly pub with good quality ales, plenty of different styles for everyone's taste. Proper lager as well, not Mortlake's finest "Australian" fizz. Didnt have the food pots, but they looked very good.

10 Apr 2014 21:45

The Surrey Yeoman, Dorking

Limited beer range, but my one was excellent. Strange pub, feels old & traditional, but when you look at the fixtures & fittings, it clearly isn't. Piped music a no no as well.

10 Apr 2014 21:42

The Woodman, Birmingham

classic interior.complemented by a fine selection of good ales. The food is excellent value - very large portions. For away fans visiting Villa, it is well worth the short walk to avoid the hordes drinking around New St station

10 Apr 2014 21:40

The Coopers Tavern, Burton-Upon-Trent

one word - fabulous!

26 Mar 2014 21:01

Ganleys, Morden

Cracking atmosphere on a Saturday night, always busy with live music. No ale on, just keg Ruddles Best, but it is only £2.00 a pint

16 Mar 2014 18:59

The Famous Green Man, Ewell

Better than expected, beer (Landlord) was damn good. Quick & friendly service. Used to hate this pub in the 80s, but not too bad this time. One downside is the name - "famous..........." Pretentious.

14 Mar 2014 15:16

The Spring Tavern, Ewell

Horrendous, ultra modern & trendy. Beer was OK, but very short measures & had to ask for it to be topped up twice

14 Mar 2014 15:13

The Moon on the Hill, Sutton

Always an interesting choice of beers, tend to be well kept. Three main seating areas & a horrendous vertical drinking area through the main doors - the wind whistles through here.

9 Mar 2014 20:28

The Wibbas Down Inn, Wimbledon

Large Spoons, with two bars & between them, three banks of handpumps - always plenty of choice. Agree that the main gents toilets are disgusting

9 Mar 2014 20:24

The Station, Stoneleigh

decent pub fayre & always one good different ale on draught. Large pub, good to see a proper games room, reminds me a bit like what it used to be in the early 80s. Will always be the Stoneleigh to me.

8 Mar 2014 16:24

East Gate, Northampton

A pleasant & quiet 'Spoons. Limited beer choice. The island bar seems all out of proportion to the limited space that surrounds it!

7 Mar 2014 14:08

Sheffield Tap, Sheffield

It's certainly got a fulsome range of beer & an extremely historic interior. However, the main two seating areas (we just stayed in the main bar) are VERY bright

31 Jan 2014 22:00

The Rutland Arms, Sheffield

Truly brilliant. Smallish pub, but plenty of seating with the bar in the corner. Good enough range of beer. I cant quite put my finger on it, but one of the best pubs I've ever been in.

31 Jan 2014 21:58

Swim Inn, Sheffield

Historic building, betrayed by a 'Spoons with even less atmosphere than normal

31 Jan 2014 21:56

Harlequin, Sheffield

spacious, comfortable & top quality beer. Quieter than the Fat Cat & a welcome contrast

31 Jan 2014 21:54

The Fat Cat, Sheffield

it's all been said before. Truly excellent. Terrific beer, pork pies & ever changing clientele through the evening

31 Jan 2014 21:53

Nonsuch Inn, North Cheam

Smaller than average Wetherspoons & all the better for it. Good Ale. Got the feeling of a pub local about it, as opposed to your normal Spoon's supermarket drinking establishment

12 Jan 2014 19:38

The Normanby, Putney

Gastro pub style. Ale was decent enough though,

12 Jan 2014 19:35

The Hop Pole, Wandsworth

Terrific. Immaculate inside - tables, floor & bar. Decent Shep Neame beer. Excellent good value Thai food. Lots of TVs for sport. Real good fnd.

12 Jan 2014 19:32

The Cat's Back, Wandsworth

Big fat zero. Pub was closed yesterday lunchtime. On a Saturday!!!!

12 Jan 2014 19:29

The Grapes, Sutton

Varied clientele - shoppers, retired men & the Benhill Benefits Brigade. Not a great selection of beer as it's a relatively small 'Spoons, but its always been spot on.

6 Jan 2014 17:03

The Red Lion, Norwich

A posh pub for posh people. Ale was good & the food looked decent as well. All in all, a very nice pub - but not one for a loud night out

5 Jan 2014 10:02

The Murderers, Norwich

Had a good range of interesting beers, plus certainly an interesting bar & room layout. However, did I like it - not really, just a feeling.

5 Jan 2014 09:59

The Alexandra Tavern, Norwich

Superb back street pub, well worth the long walk from the station. Two bars, dart board, decent juke box, good local ale & food. The pool table wasn't set up which was a shame - this would have made it perfect.

For away fans visiting Norwich, this is well worth a trip if you get to Norwich early. The pub will organise a taxi to the ground as well.

5 Jan 2014 09:57

The Kings Tun, Kingston Upon Thames

Very disappointing. Beer range poor for such a large Spoons. Long time since I've been here & certainly wont hurry back. Just didn't like the layout at all as well.

15 Dec 2013 09:46

The Rocket , Putney

Quite possibly the poshest Wetherspoons you'll ever go in. Nice location by the river & lots of nooks & crannies. More expensive than the Railway & a far smaller range of beer. Nicer place than your average Spoon's to eat.

24 Nov 2013 17:24

The Lord Nelson, Sutton

Typical old school Youngs back street boozer, good beer & friendly atmosphere. George the Parrot is very chatty! With a bookmakers opposite, much of the trade is shared between the two establishments. Jukebox can at times be a bit loud, as can be the local Chelsea fans, but that's a risk with any pub in Sutton.

3 Sep 2013 10:24

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

Yes, the beer is good, but boy, you don't half pay for the privilege of drinking here.

23 Jun 2013 21:13

Canal House, Nottingham

Unique pub with canal (& barge) in the middle. Castle Rock's full range. Plenty of room for both sitting & vertical drinking. The decor & lighting are just right, although a large bar, it does feel a lot smaller & intimate. Food fine as well.

13 Jun 2013 19:31

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

Yes, it's a bit touristy, but it does feel incredibly authentic with all the rooms carved out of the rock. Beer not bad either.

13 Jun 2013 19:28

The Bell Inn, Nottingham

Clearly a small, old pub at one time that has been opened out greatly at the back. Large, dark wooded interior. Beer range not excessive, but no complaints on the quality. Busy, even early in the week.

13 Jun 2013 19:27

The Malt Cross, Nottingham

For a high vaulted pub, a lot of atmosphere. Relatively OK beer range. I dont normally like bright & airy pubs, but this one worked.

13 Jun 2013 19:24

The Salutation Inn, Nottingham

As a Heavy Rock themed pub - very good. Not so good otherwise. Limited beer choice - EPA, Hobgoblin & Pedigree. Very old interior, but the two "ye olde" snugs were cold & uninviting.

13 Jun 2013 19:23

The Dragon, Nottingham

Limited beer choice (3). Strange set up minside on different levels. Very dark. If anything, a bit too trendy

13 Jun 2013 19:20

The Hand and Heart, Nottingham

Greeted with a bank of handpumps with some very interesting beers. Front part of the pub is a little bland, but opens up at the back where it is carved through sandstone & cave-like. Very atmospheric

13 Jun 2013 19:19

The Organ Grinder, Nottingham

Nine handpumps, six of which were Blue Monkey. Very good mix of seating & vertical drinking space.

13 Jun 2013 19:16

The Albion, Hampton Court

Lively, good mix of people & the beer we had was damn good as well. A strange pub though. This could have been "olde world" and full of character at one time, but clearly had a modernisation refit at one time which doesn't work for me, or the feel of the pub building.

1 Jun 2013 07:26

The New Drum, Tonbridge

Friendly back street local, I stayed on the Harvey's which was fine. Three screens for sport.

26 May 2013 13:10

The Humphrey Bean, Tonbridge

Large, airy & with lots of natural light. Good range of small brewery beers. Pleasant place to have a drink or six.

26 May 2013 12:19

The Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street

Loads of scaffolding INSIDE the pub, never seen that before anywhere else!!

Cant complain about the beer & certainly plenty of seating (despite the scaffolding!) to make it a good mid afternoon session today.

23 May 2013 19:22

The Coach and Horses, Carshalton

Much improved after the refurb. Beer range a bit limited - just Doombar & London Pride, but both were drinkable.

16 May 2013 20:06

The Cock and Bull, Sutton

good beer & live music on a Saturday night, great combination

6 May 2013 22:18

Renshaw's, Liverpool

looks good from the outside but a major disappointment inside, both in terms of decor & also a total lack of ale. Choice of two different smooth flow bitters, never seen that before. Awful place- avoid.

28 Apr 2013 21:41

The Grapes, Mathew St, Liverpool

Absolutely heaving on Saturday night, live music & hen parties in tow. Bar service considering the crowd wasn't bad either. VERY late closing for a pub.

28 Apr 2013 21:38

Belvedere, Liverpool

Timewarp pub in terms of layout & decor, my beer was also good.

28 Apr 2013 21:35

Peter Kavanaghs, Liverpool

One of those rare pubs where you can while away the time just looking around the interior - something different & unique wherever you look. Beer was good as well

28 Apr 2013 21:31

The Punch and Judy, Tonbridge

Good pub. Three main drinking areas on different levels, makes it seem large, but still cosy. Good mix of people from all ages. Three ales on, all were decent enough.

Agree with posting below about people sitting at the bar & making it difficult to get served.

13 Apr 2013 12:17

The Nightingale, Sutton

Live band & packed. TT's Landlord was spot on. HIghly recommended for fun on a Friday night

6 Apr 2013 17:25

The Duke of Somerset, Aldgate

Nice enough pub, but nothing special. Thought Tribune @ £3.00 wasn't too bad for the City.

6 Apr 2013 16:28

The Edward Rayne, Raynes Park

Really liked this 'Spoons. Decent range of local beers. Seemed to be absent of the lager top & Red Bull brigade that frequents other Spoons (eg Sutton, Wimbledon & North Cheam). Comfortable & quiet. The family liked it as well

3 Apr 2013 19:02

The Moon on the Hill, Sutton

Possibly the most gruesome vertical drinking in any Wetherspoons. When the front doors are opened, it's like a wind tunnel.

17 Feb 2013 12:43

The Harvest Home, Croydon

Clearly nothing more than a community locals' pub. Doom Bar was off, but no complaints with the Young's Ordinary. Small snug just off main bar area, comfortable enough main bar. Conservatory with pool table. One down side was the thumping juke box, although it did appear to be free. Not a bad pub, been in far worse.

20 Jan 2013 14:08

The Plough Inn, Croydon

Largish pub with central island bar. Youngs beer, my point was fine. Popular with cross section of locals. All in all, not bad

20 Jan 2013 14:05

The Nag's Head, Shrewsbury

Terrific find. Atmospheric old interior, friendly & beer was first class. My first visit.I'll be back!

10 Jan 2013 21:46

Salopian Bar, Shrewsbury

If the local CAMRA branch vote this as Pub of the Year, then they must be blind. Yes, the beer is wide ranging & very good. However, the walls are bright red & as a result, the pub isn't at all welcoming. The settees taking up half of the front of the pub are pointless - if I want to sit on something like that, I'll stay at home.

10 Jan 2013 21:43

The Coach and Horses, Shrewsbury

First ever visit - top pub. Like the public bar at the front & the snug would be great for a small group of friends. The beer was faultless as well.

10 Jan 2013 21:40

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Seem to have resolved the problem with beer running out after Fulham games. Excellent pub, last traditional one left in Putney. Great range of beers. Bar service always first class. Proper mix of home & away fans - no snobbery in this place.

6 Jan 2013 15:05

The Portwall Tavern, Bristol

Doesn't look much from the outside, but a gem once inside. Beer was excellent & the pizza I had couldn't be faulted.

6 Jan 2013 15:02

Doggetts Coat and Badge, Southwark

The beer is great, cant be faulted. However, they clearly have a policy of ripping people off through VERY short pints. Happens every time I visit. I complain, but I bet the tourists don't.

6 Jan 2013 15:00

The Lord Nelson, Cheam

First visit for many years. Good pub, decent beer, food looked good. Good atmosphere, people of all ages.

One warning - beware of extremely short pints on the Ale front.

6 Jan 2013 14:57

The Playhouse, Colchester

Certainly a destination pub, all tourists visiting Colchester should go there. Ale OK as well.

28 Aug 2012 21:24

The Hooden on the Green, Mitcham

Potentially it has a lot going for it. Beer far better than the Burn Bullock. Quiet for a Saturday night. You know you're in a dodgy area when you have to pay a deposit for the pool cues & ball.

8 Jul 2012 15:30

The Burn Bullock, Mitcham

Naughty, very naughty. Some nasty characters in here. London Pride & Green King IPA, the former was barely drinkable.

8 Jul 2012 15:28

The Crown, Mitcham

Primarily a curry house, but with a pub like bar. No Ale. Curry good though. Service excellent.

8 Jul 2012 15:26

The Royal Standard, Croydon

Walked in, got stared at by people in suits, so walked out again. Pretentious locals.

20 Jun 2012 20:27

The Bulls Head, Croydon

Proper backstreet pub, with proper people. Four ales - small or micro breweries. As said below, it has some "characters", but decent beer & no frills. Compared with the Royal Standard (where I was stared at my pretentious up market locals), this was a welcoming place for a stranger

20 Jun 2012 20:25

O'Neills, Sutton

now re-opened after refurbishment. Unfortunately, I dont know what it's like inside as my missus & I were refused entry - we weren't on the guest list. I can understand a private party on open evening, but perhaps they could have had some notices explaining this. Instead, I was greeted with a clipboard across my chest & a surly attitude from the management.

13 May 2012 17:59

The Salisbury Arms Hotel, Hertford

Certainly a lot of old dark wood in here. Formally dressed barstaff. Two bars & a side room. The back one reeked of food, dont go in there just for a drink. McMullens AK was OK.

13 May 2012 17:52

The Old Cross Tavern, Hertford

Top pub. Small, but very good selection of ales, both te ones I tried were faultless. Service excellent. A very sociable place.

13 May 2012 17:50

The Cork, Welwyn Garden City

Had a pleasant couple of Adnams at lunchtime. Found it odd that all the seating areas were so dark & dingy though.

13 May 2012 17:48

The Standard Bearer, Stevenage

Found the two beers I tried both excellent. No complaints with service, although I found them a bit slow in cleaning tables. A bizarre upstairs seating area, next to the toilets. A more than reasonable spoons, despite being next to the shopping centre that time forgot.

13 May 2012 17:46

The White Star, Liverpool

A proper pub, proper beer, proper fixture/fittings, liked the pictures on the walls

2 May 2012 21:00

The Grapes, Mathew St, Liverpool

went in here late last night for a quick half & stayed for a further two pints! Cant grumble about the beer & the atmosphere was fine. Live music always goes down well.

2 May 2012 20:57

Thomas Rigby's, Liverpool

Decent enough beer and liked the way you can move between this pub & the Lady of Mann without having to buy another beer!

2 May 2012 20:54

The Ship and Mitre, Liverpool

Hard to fault this pub. Several unusual beers on handpump, an extensive bottle choice (think the drink menu is an excellent idea), food was enjoyable, friendly service - bar & kitchen staff. I also liked the layout of the pub. A very mixed clientele. All in all, pretty near damn perfect. And Fulham won!

2 May 2012 20:51

All Bar One, Sutton

full of people who believe they are far superior to your average pub drinker. A rarity in Sutton - a hangout for snobs.

28 Apr 2012 15:14

Founders Arms, Bankside

The location makes it worthwhile going to as a one off & then just for a quick pint. Whatever you do, try & stay outside - inside the smell of food is simply overpowering.

13 Apr 2012 22:43

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

You can't complain when a pub is selling off the remaining beers from the Beer Festival at 1.00 a pint. Especially when Fulham have just won!

4 Mar 2012 19:48

The Regent, Walton on Thames

Compared with some other Spoon's, I liked this one. Deep and narrow, with a small area at the top of the stairs. Service was good & the beer spot on as well. I'll return. One slight complaint - the booths are very small, tight squeeze for four adults.

19 Feb 2012 09:37

The Railway, Tulse Hill

excellent place for a pitstop if waiting for train connections. Nothing wrong with the Ale. Seems to be family friendly.

29 Jan 2012 18:15

The New Cross Inn / Bar Alchemy, New Cross

excellent venue to see bands, even has a choice of Ale. Mind you it wasn't very good quality last night. The old horsehoe bar has been removed & is now tucked into the corner, but that makes more space for the band & audience. However, it looks like they haven't finished decorating yet.

29 Jan 2012 18:11

Mr Foley's Cask Ale House, Leeds

Interesting set of drinking areas, decent range of beer. However, possibly one of the coldest pubs I've ever been in. Couldnt wait to fnish my pint & go outside where it was warmer. Brrrrrrrr.

18 Jan 2012 19:42

The Adelphi, Leeds

EXcellent interior, well worth the visit. Reasonable range of beers as well, particularly good for foreign draft ones. However, the piped muzak seemed right out of place & made sure I didnt stay for a second pint.

18 Jan 2012 19:40

The Scarbrough Hotel, Leeds

If Saturdays after games are too packed, you wont get this problem on Sundays or Mondays! Nevertheless, very good range of beer, ale was well kept & a varied choice. Excellent pitstop if waiting fora train.

18 Jan 2012 19:37

Prince Of Wales, Leeds

A couple of handpumps on, my beer was perfectly sound. Entertainment came from a drunk scotsman who tagged onto our group & a junkie who got forcibly escorted out.

18 Jan 2012 19:36

Whitelocks, Leeds

Pub closed Monday night, no warning. Obviously considers itself far too important for Joe Public, they were having a "team meeting". Not impressed.

18 Jan 2012 19:34

The Hope, Carshalton

Good range of beers, relatively local and tasted fine. Good atmosphere in the pub. One teeny complaint, the number of people sitting by the bar in front of the handpumps made it difficult to see what beers were on

28 Nov 2011 20:29

The Greyhound, Carshalton

I like the current layout - plenty of choices where to sit, stand or eat away from the bar. The Ordinary was good, although it should be at more than 3.00!

28 Nov 2011 20:25

The Coach and Horses, Carshalton

Not good. Attractive glazed exterior & list of real ciders intices you in, but, boy what a disappointment inside. The carpet & seating looks the same as when I was using it over 20 years ago. The barmaid ignored us when we came in & carried on chatting to a punter at the bar. One beer on - Adnams which was passable, nothing more. The punters looked like they had been there all day. Juke box ramped up to full volume. Couldn't wait to escape.

28 Nov 2011 20:23

The Sultan, South Wimbledon

Beer superb & relatively cheap. Of the two bars, I prefer the quiet lounge bar with the dart board, as the main one has incredibly bright lighting.

30 Oct 2011 18:00

The Horse and Groom, Wimbledon

Oh dear. Frightening. Fairly empty for a Saturday night, but those there were not the sort of people you would want to indulge in small talk with. No ale, just Whitbread keg. Decent enough conservatory though with pool table, but decor straight from the Transvaal

30 Oct 2011 17:57

The Boathouse, Putney

Location, location, location = Expensive, expensive, expensive

9 Oct 2011 17:26

The Cricketers, Epsom

Quite plush in a modern sort of way. Seemed to be much smaller than I remembered it, but havent been there for about 20 years. Couldn't fault thebeer though, not a great choice but the Doombar was spot on

9 Oct 2011 16:57

The Jolly Coopers, Epsom

Very disappointing. An interesting beer selection, mine was OK, nothing more. Three bars. The public has a pool table, darts & juke box. Small Snug looked cosy. The lounge bar was spartan for a lounge bar. It was very empty last night. I was really looking forward to going, hence my perhaps harsh rating as I felt let down.

9 Oct 2011 16:55

The Assembly Rooms, Epsom

A bit different to your normal 'Spoons. Stone flag floors is a nice touch. Longish bar away from the seating area. Main seating area split into two & a hospitable place to enjoy a few sherberts. Decent range of beers. I preferred it to many 'Spoons I've been to.

9 Oct 2011 16:52

Kiss Me Hardy, Colliers Wood

big pub, not a place for a cosy meal for two. However, with two children in tow, thought it wasnt too bad. Foood was more than adequte & I found the service from the bar staff better than a lot of pubs I've been to. I found it clean & tidy, nothing like previous posters below.

HOWEVER......no draft beer! When the choice was lager, chemically addled fizzy cider & tasteless John Smith's Smooth, perhaps the lack of any draft beer was a bonus!

14 Sep 2011 21:47

The Bree Louise, Euston

Well it certainly has a very big range of beers! Sometimes, a pub can have too many.

14 Sep 2011 21:41

The Victory, Walton on the Naze

Tidy, well run pub. Beer good & food looked appetising. Only had a brief visit, but was made to feel welcome.

20 Aug 2011 19:56

The Martello Inn, Clacton-on-Sea

Now a Toby Carvery. Only difference between this & every other Toby Carvery is it's location, right on the seafront. This at least added a dfferent element to the meal (ie the sea view). Adnams Broadside was pretty good though. If the weather is sunny & the wind is down, the patio wouldn't be a bad place to have a pint or two.

20 Aug 2011 07:41

The Kilkenny, South Wimbledon

Really lively pub, good atmosphere last night (Saturday). Let down by a total lack of ale. Prob best to have a few in the Traf or the Sultan first

7 Aug 2011 20:19

The Charles Dickens, Southwark

Decent micro beer range, 5 mins walk from Southwark tube.

4 Aug 2011 23:58

The Ring, Southwark

after a top quality curry at the Southbank Tandoori, this post grub pub really hit the spot. Very lively for a Thursday night. Ale not bad either.

4 Aug 2011 23:56

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

One of the better station pubs I can think of. Feels like a proper pub inside, decent beer, plenty of seating & the bonus of train departure boards.

3 Aug 2011 22:10

The Butterchurn, Sutton

While not the prettiest pub from the outside & lacking a degree of traditional fittings inside, this pub could be a massively successful community pub. It already attracts a good local support & the food loked good value for money. TVs, darts & pool as well.

Sadly, however, a total lack of Ale means it will never get the trade it deserves. The IPA & Speckled Hen were both off. If they sorted out the beer, I would certyainly be there a lot more

2 Aug 2011 21:39

O'Neills, Sutton

I sometimes go in here late on a Saturday night to catch the live music. I find it a lively atmosphere, devoid of the youth brigade in some nearby pubs. The only issue is the dire quality of the beer. If you like adequate guinness & tasteless lager, then it's for you. However, as a trade off for the music & atmosphere, it's an occasional sacrifice I'm prepared to make.

1 Aug 2011 20:35

The Caxton Arms, Brighton

Smallish but comfortable. Shepherd Neame, pretty reasonable.

31 Jul 2011 21:42

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

came here mid afternoon on Saturday, the place was buzzing - all types & all ages, some drinking, some eating food. Can't fault the beer in any way. Food looked excellent, certainly very popular.

31 Jul 2011 21:38

The London Pub, Bloomsbury

This is the pub to go to if you want to be among young people either about to go on holiday, or, have just returned. The hotel is the London departure/arrivals for Contiki Holidays. The ale wasnt bad when I visited & the food looks plentiful - I'm told it is cheap & prettty good in the circumstances.

Yes, it's hprrendous from the outside, but it isnt too bad inside. I've been to some old historic pubs that have been slaughtered once yu o through the door.

3 Jul 2011 20:26

The Rose and Crown, Southwark

Not the biggest pub, but inside is what a pub should be all about - traditional seating, colours & top notch Shepherd Neame ale. There's a room for hire upstairs.

1 Jul 2011 21:05

The Cedars, Binsted

From the outside, not what you call an attractive country pub. No complaints about the beer though. Big garden (a bit unkempt) at the back with plenty for the children, including a couple of trampolines. Avoid the first one, covered in bird poo!!

25 Jun 2011 21:39

The Greyfriar, Chawton

Wonderful village location, directly opposite Jane Austen's house, looks great from the outside. Most of the seating & tables , however, looks like it should be in a posh tea house. No complaints about the Fullers beer though. Suntrap garden at the back.

25 Jun 2011 21:33

The Seven Stars, Bristol

"Are you a CAMRA member?" "Yes." "Discount on the beer then." "Bingo!"

Seemed to be a decent enough selection of beer, although I only had time for one.

18 Jun 2011 17:43

The Bridge Inn, Bristol

Small, intimate pub, three beers on when I was there - two Bath Ales. A must visit pub, but not sure I would want more than a couple there.

18 Jun 2011 17:24

The Priory Arms, Stockwell

Small pub, but just the right size to have a buzzy feel. Good range of beers - ale & draft foreign ones. Thought the burger a touch pricey, but it was good. Free papers & lots of board games. Sort of pub I would be more than happy to have as my local, if I lived vaguely nearby.

10 Jun 2011 21:13

The Cavendish Arms, Stockwell

Top class gig venue, comfortable lounge. Draft Doombar in god nick. Beware of short pints though!

10 Jun 2011 21:09

The Bank, Bristol

A real bonus finding this. Small pub, but with a pleasant courtyard outside. Inside looked a good choice of beer & mine was top notch. The night I was in had a buzz as there were bands & a youngish crowd. I'll be back next time in Brizzol.

Graze Bar and Chophouse, Bristol

Normally I hate these sort of places, but went with a group from work for beer & a meal. The Bath ales, draft & bottled beerwere excellent, as was the food. If you want a destination place for a group to eat & drink, I would recommend this place.

4 Jun 2011 15:18

The Walkabout, Covent Garden

Went on a quiet afternoon & a pleasant enough place to have a cold bottle of Speights. Better places nearby for a longer session

29 May 2011 11:34

The Harp, Covent Garden

Faultless. Excellent beer. Delicious sausages at only 2.50. Complete oasis for miles around.

25 May 2011 21:05

The Earls Court Tavern, Earls Court

Beer OK. Bloody noisy with the doors open though!

25 May 2011 21:03

The Warwick Arms, Kensington

Loads of exposed wood & the Fullers was on top form. Not a really big pub, but cavernous compared with the Britannia Tap. The curry special looked to be good value.

25 May 2011 21:01

The Britannia Tap, West Kensington

I liked this. The Youngs was well kept, the landlady was friendly & the sausage roll only 1.00. Small & intimate

25 May 2011 20:59

The Well House Inn, Mugswell

Old interior, complemented by very go beer & an excellent garden. A country pub to impress if on a date

25 May 2011 20:57

The Bell, Walton On The Hill

About as near a "middle of nowhere pub" that you will get just south of London. The EPA was superb.

25 May 2011 20:55

The Wibbas Down Inn, Wimbledon

Strange shaped pub. Also, for some reason they like to keep the doors open which creates a bit of a wind tunnel affect. If you sit on the big tables in the middle of the pub, you can then easily get beer from both bars (& there is no wind blowing through!). As other posters say, very good beer range.

18 Apr 2011 11:31

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

Impressed last weekend. Despite the egg chasing being on, they were more than happy to set up a TV at one end of the Smart Alex Bar for the Fulham game. Proof that management do listen to the punters

26 Mar 2011 11:38

No.88 Bar and Grill, Kingston Upon Thames

Beer was OK, most impressive was the TV Projector screen. I've never seen digital quality like it on a screen. Would recommend for any big sporting occassion, eg when Fulham are on the TV.

6 Mar 2011 17:19

The Railway, Putney

Downstairs is like an oven, the part behind the bar at the back is particularly unpleasant. Upstairs is a bit more airy, but minimal beer range & poorly staffed.

5 Feb 2011 21:50

The New Town, Sutton

This pub potentially has it all now. The saloon bar on all three levels has been painted & refurbished in a comfortable dark colour. The public bar is lively & there is a separate pool & darts room, just off the public bar. It has a serving hatch to the public bar, so it still feels part of the pub. The Youngs beer was on good form last night.

One complaint - the Chelsea goons singing in the public bar

5 Feb 2011 17:45

The Swan Inn, Liverpool

A combination of great beer & a LOUD jukebox. Unlike some of the modern CD ones which take your money & never play your choices, this is an old style CD one that you can feed & enjoy, as we did. Cant remember the last time I heard AC/DC "Big Balls" in a pub.

29 Jan 2011 15:41

The Roscoe Head, Liverpool

A proper pub, clearly devoid of all gimickery. Beer quality & service was excellent. A must.

29 Jan 2011 15:38

The Philharmonic, Liverpool

All drinkers must be mandated to visit this pub at some time in their life, an abslutely unique interior. Even surpasses my other favourite - The Black Friar in London. Beer was OK, but rather secondary.

29 Jan 2011 15:36

The Fly in the Loaf, Liverpool

Went here mid afternoon when it was very quiet. I can see that this pub would be a real find when busy in the evening. Impressed with both the beer & service.

29 Jan 2011 15:34

Globe, Liverpool

Great pub, busy & handy for Moorfields station.

29 Jan 2011 15:32

Doctor Duncans, Liverpool

Classy, superb beer, clean, tidy but atmospheric enough. A pleasure to drink in

29 Jan 2011 15:31

The Dispensary, Liverpool

Decent beer, but when I went it was very much a "Club Camra" stereotype evening.

29 Jan 2011 15:29

Crown, Liverpool

Far better than your average station pub. Beer decent enough & cheap. Ornate walls & fittings, not sure about the carpet thoughn the back room

29 Jan 2011 15:28

The Rocket , Putney

Posh Wetherspoons, very much aimed at the posh Putney market. Luckilly improves on Fulham matchdays. Quick service, clean, odd shaped pub.

28 Nov 2010 17:38

The Fighting Cocks, Kingston Upon Thames

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Basic no frills pub with separate room (with bar) for the bands. Ale quality indifferent, but it's not the main reason to go there.

15 Nov 2010 15:05

The Grapes, Sutton

Quite a pleasant Wetherspoons, if a little too bright in the main bar. The partitioned bit at the back is a bit darker & no need for your sunglasses here. The guest beers I had were fine.

27 Oct 2010 19:59

The Scotia Bar, Glasgow

Very old, full of nooks & crannies. Excellent music on Thursday night. Beer choice limited, but didn't mind that for the atmosphere.

23 Oct 2010 17:53

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

A tad disappoijnted last night & I'm normally a great fan of the place. No TT beers on. Of theremaining five ales on, three were over 5%, the other two were 4.6 & 4.9%. So not a lot for session drinking.

Despite this, service remains impeccable & the place is an oasis of Putney.

17 Oct 2010 19:26

The Brewery Tap, Wimbledon Village

Always a choice of Ales, normally good. Smallish pub, but gets busy & generally has a good atmosphere. Bar staff chosen for their looks though, rather than their ability behind yhe bar.

17 Oct 2010 18:10

The Rose and Crown, Wimbledon Village

Good Beer. The central large island bar allows for a lot of areas to stand/sit, creating a very good traditional pub atmosphere.

17 Oct 2010 17:52

The New Town, Sutton

Potentially, a pub for all. Youngs in good form. Lively public bar. Separate pool & darts room off the public bar, but still feels like part of the public bar. Lounge bar is on three levels, so plenty of places to have a quiet drink & chat. Additional darts in the bottom level. Now advertising regular music, also Pie & Mash on saturday nights.

10 Oct 2010 17:34

Ganleys, Morden

Decent enough atmosphere at all times. Handpump Abbott wasn't bad. Always worth a couple if in the area

10 Oct 2010 17:28

The Surrey Arms, Mitcham

Oh dear. Bright red & white inside, devoid of all atmosphere. John Smiths smooth. Smattering of locals who tank up on lager tops. Avoid

10 Oct 2010 17:27

The Filo (First In Last Out), Hastings

Had an excellent pint. The landlord & locals made my 9 year old son very welcome. He highly recommends the organic apple juice, was on his third before I had drunk even half of my pint!

24 Aug 2010 14:20

The Bull Inn, Bulverhythe

Clearly a restaurant first & foremost, the pub seems an afterthought. The pint I had was good though.

24 Aug 2010 14:18

The Robin Hood, Sutton

A proper pub within 5 mins walk of the High Street. Here you can avoid the alcoholic vest wearing drunks from the Benhill estate & Rosehil, who frequent the pubs at the bottom of the High Street, also the alcopop yoof brigade loitering around the top end of the High Street.

I find the Youngs beer to be very good, service also friendly. The food (although not an extensive menu) I've enjoyed as well.

Recommended

22 Jul 2010 13:26

The Butterchurn, Sutton

Returned last night for the first time in two years. All handpumps unused, which was disappointing. Food was good value though. Very suprised by the pleasant & attentive service from the barmaid & cook. Enjoyed my stay.

7 Jul 2010 12:36

Brigantes Bar and Brasserie, York

I thought I would hate this place, but far from it. Although modern it has a good pub feel with lots of booth & table seating. Good range of well kept beer. Food (or the meal I had anyway) was excellent. Very busy, full of all ages which must be a rarity these days. A pub where everyone can feel comfortable with a good lively atmosphere.

30 Mar 2010 12:57

The Old Contemptibles, Birmingham

Good range of well kept beer. Imaculate toilets. Breakfasts looked huge & really tasty, will go well with a beer at 11am. Sausages excellent. Throughly recommended. Will be here next season for the next Birmingham v Fulham game

27 Nov 2009 17:11

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

Awful service, from a series of disinterested colonial bar staff

27 Nov 2009 17:08

The Harp, Covent Garden

Great beer & the sausages went down a treat as well.

27 Aug 2009 13:22

The Ship, Soho

Impressive Service. The barmaid volunteered to change my pint when she saw it was cloudy, even though I had started to drink it. Stayed for a second pint to the tunes of the Dead Kennedys. Bliss.

27 Aug 2009 13:18

The Railway, Putney

If you avoid this place on Fulham games, then the queue for beer is minimal. Good range of Ales (downstairs anyway). Needs to bit of a spruce up downstairs. Good mix of traditional locals & OK yahs.

30 Apr 2009 13:36

The Fox, Putney

Busy last night for the football, although most weren't drinking anything and left as soon as the game finished. No Ale on, even though the handpumps indicated it should have been. Attractive bar staff, not enough to reccommend repeat visit. Beer lovers should go over the road to the Railway.

30 Apr 2009 13:34

The Grove Tavern, South Wimbledon

Blimey, this has changed. Always a decent venue for live bands, now even better with a larger stage & sound desk. No proper bitter, but bottles of Directors & Speckled Hen @ 3.50.

26 Apr 2009 11:58

The Colosseum, Bristol

Decent enough pub with lounge, conservatory, big covered smoking patio & back public bar, although lacks Ale. Opens at 7.30am for breakfasts

10 Apr 2009 10:09

The Northcote, Clapham Junction

I like this pub. Square open pub, bar to one side, plenty of seating. One of those pubs where you can be anywhere in it & still feel part of the atmosphere of the whole place. Speckled Hen & Pride (latter off last night).

29 Mar 2009 16:03

The Duck, Battersea

Full of Clapham's finest Estate Agents & City Bankers. Nevertheless, a good atmosphere on a Saturday night. However, somewhat ruined by an appaling selection of beer. Not one for lovers of Ale

29 Mar 2009 16:01

The Famous 3 Kings (F3K), West Kensington

At long last, a proper sports pub with proper Ale!!! The beer was in good nick, nosh good as well. Plenty of TVs with different choices in the different parts of the pub. Will return.

20 Feb 2009 10:23

The Shire horse, Kettering

Years since I last drank Burton, so worth a visit on that basis alone. Apart from that, didn't like it.

25 Jan 2009 11:14

The Alexandra Arms, Kettering

Great pub with a terrific range of Ale. Friendly & well worth a visit if you're going to the football, just a 10/15 minute walk away.

25 Jan 2009 11:13

The Figure of Eight, Birmingham

Lively for a midweek visit for an "out of towner". Beer range OK. Full of students getting tanked.

17 Jan 2009 15:49

Pennyblacks, Birmingham

Beer good, but expensive - London prices 3.00 for a standard beer. Menu similarly expensive

17 Jan 2009 15:48

The Craven Arms, Birmingham

Very disapointing. Nice interior, but no food & no Ale on my visit last week, so I walked out. It also stank

17 Jan 2009 15:46

The Eight Bells, Putney Bridge

Good little pub, however, it's nearness to Putney Bridge tube station means it is normally packed to the rafters with away fans before Fulham games.

29 Dec 2008 12:11

Walkabout, Wimbledon

Not a place to visit for the quality of beer. However, found the atmsophere lively & a good mix of sexes. The beer deal last night - buy one bottle get one free was appreciated, despite a post Fulham match hangover.

29 Dec 2008 12:07

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Beer quality & bar service always excellent. Buzzing before & after Fulham games. Sometimes struggle with beer availability. Getting annoyed that lunchtime food prior to matchdays is more off than on though.

24 Dec 2008 17:04

The Wibbas Down Inn, Wimbledon

Enjoyed the Christmas beers last night, also found the bar service friendly.

24 Dec 2008 17:00

The Halfway House, Edinburgh

Terrific pub, small with a great atmosphere. Decent beers & food - I had two dinners there last week. Very friendly staff.

15 Dec 2008 15:29

The Green Man, Putney Heath

Although I'm not normally a lover of Youngs' pub refurbishments, this place works. Lots of interesting nooks & crannies, good seating (front & back), decent food & good beer. Only criticism is the food is a bit poncey, particularly the chips set out as some form of jenga game.

1 Jul 2008 13:59

The Florence Arms, Southsea

Very friendly & knowledgeable Landlord, who treated a group of Fulham fans visiting the pub for the first time very well.

Beer was very good & a large range of cider & perry. Sunday lunch was a result.

Juke box & pool table topped it off, shame we had to leave. Will be back.

14 May 2008 20:29

O'Neills, Sutton

If only it did proper ale, the pub would be near perfect.

10 Apr 2008 17:14

The Sutton Arms, Sutton

Greene King IPA & Abbott, kept well enough. Good pub for watching football, several TVs & plenty of different vantage points. Tends to avoid the worst of Sutton's yoof drinking brigade.

10 Apr 2008 17:09

The New Town, Sutton

Interesting shaped pub with separate public bar, pool/darts room & three different seating levels in the Lounge. Beer standard but good Youngs. Sunday night quizzes are good fun & provide a nice atmosphere for a Sunday night. Other nights can be fairly quiet.

24 Feb 2008 20:22

The Butterchurn, Sutton

Had a quiet pint of OKish Abbott at lunchtime. Looks like a quite good pub for the local area, but had a slightly tacky feeling throughout.

21 Feb 2008 20:27

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Terrific atmosphere before & after Fulham games. Wide range of beer, although many can run out on a Saturday which is annoying. Prices seem to be creeping up though. Remains an oasis in Putney. Always cheers me up after a game & believe me, I often need cheering up!

16 Feb 2008 22:37

Ashley Park Hotel, Walton on Thames

Dull & boring inside & out, but a real beer surprise. Definitely a good way to kill a few minutes before the train.

16 Feb 2008 22:32

The Dukes Head, Putney

Extortionate prices. Beer OK, service indifferent

16 Feb 2008 22:30

The Sultan, South Wimbledon

Go for the beer - excellent. Somewhat quiet at times, but a decent dartboard.

16 Feb 2008 22:26

Charles Holden, Colliers Wood

Good choice of ale, although expensive. Pub 100x better than the old Victory, however don't like it's attempt to be fashionable by appealing to the rugger set. Yah.

16 Feb 2008 22:24

The Ten Bells, Shoreditch

Only in pub for 10 mins, visit to toilet enough to prevent staying for a drink. Toilets not cleaned since Jack the Ripper last there.

4 Aug 2007 15:44

The Dukes Head, Putney

Expensive & long wait for beer if you're the normal type that buys it at the bar. If however, you are a member of the Putney set that expects table service, then it's excellent.

Surprisingly good refurb & non-smoking a bonus. Shame about losing the public bar & table football. However, the beer prices & bar service are enough to put me off returning.

27 Feb 2007 08:03

The Moon on the Hill, Sutton

A most unpleasant bar to drink at because they leave the doors open & the wind whistles through. Beer range varies, but always tastes OK. Downstairs lobby - smoky haze. Upstairs lobby, pleasant but a little dark at times.

A great pub for dirty old men to stare at young girls wearing next to nothing.

27 Feb 2007 07:26

The Boston Arms, Tufnell Park

Extremely cheap guinness - #2.40. Extremely smoky. No proper ale. Dirty Water Club next door is recommended for bands on a Friday night.

27 Feb 2007 07:03

The Norfolk, Colchester

Not bad for a pitstop on the way to station from town.

7 Aug 2006 12:41

Quilters Bar, Colchester

No real ale, so if you have any taste buds, avoid. However, food wasn't bad & the layout is good, so imagine a good time possible on certain nights. Dyed blonde barmaids on the lunch time session when I visited. I suppose it is Essex after all......

7 Aug 2006 12:39

All Bar One, Sutton

Quite expensive & devoid of atmosphere. London Prode OK, but nothing special.

30 Jul 2006 16:23

The Station Hotel, Ipswich

Worth a pitstop if you have to wait for the train. Limited beer range at times, but Directors was good on my visit last week. Food is good value.

The pub itself lacks a little intimacy, but I think they need the space for the football trade.

23 Jul 2006 12:26

Founders Arms, Bankside

Touristy, but possibly one of the best views in London. Worthwhile the occasional visit, but be wary of the expensive food & drink. You can't go far wrong with Youngs beer.

23 Jul 2006 12:22

The Woodstock, Morden

The refurbishment in recent years was like something out of a 1980s horror show. Opened up the pub, filled it full of chrome fittings & took the Ale away. Not a comfortable place to drink.

9 Jul 2006 16:19

The Lord Nelson, Sutton

Good quality Youngs beers, friendly service. Always worth popping in for a couple, but I'm not sure about spending a whole session there.

9 Jul 2006 15:34

The Sutton Arms, Sutton

Old beer range gone, now standard Greene King fare - IPA & Speckled Hen. OK, but not enough to draw me there on a regular basis.

9 Jul 2006 15:32

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

Biggish Youngs pub, with several different drinking areas that should appeal to everyone. Beer OK. It would be nice if the bar on the roof terrace was open.

2 Jul 2006 16:09

Tone's Bar, North Cheam

For fans of Walham Green Rovers - great. For those of us who haven't been lobotomised - avoid.

22 Jun 2006 14:40

The New Town, Sutton

Local corner street pub, with three "rooms" in the lounge, a public bar & separate pool room. Beer standard Youngs fare.

19 Jun 2006 12:22

The Moon on the Hill, Sutton

Beer OK, always at least one or two interesting ones. Friday & Saturday nights, packed with the younger element getting wasted on cheap lager & alcopops. Downstairs room gets very smoky & rarely cleaned properly. Main bar area is horrible when the penguins on the door insist on opening the main doors to the elements.

19 Jun 2006 12:14

The Station, Stoneleigh

Although no longer a regular (I've moved away) I went there last night, internally it's the best it's been since the Gardiner days of the early 80s. Beer (bitter) was OK - IPA & Speckled Hen, not a great choice I know, but better than none. Plenty of separate areas & child friendly for the first time in a generation. If you live in the Stoneleigh area, I would be more than happy to now have this as my local.

15 Jun 2006 13:13

The Lord Palmerston, Carshalton

Beer OK (Courage Best, Youngs Ordinary & Special) but hot weather not helping. Good friendly pub, separate public bar. Cash quizzes on Sundays, you don't even need an anorak to win!

Seems to have a policy of employing young attractive barmaids!

12 Jun 2006 14:40

The Halfway House, West Horndon

Worth visiting only if staying in the hotel next door. In the night I was there, all three ales ran out. From memory - GK IPA & Old Speckled Hen were two of them.

Suggest hotel visitors go elsewhere for food & drink first, then return here before you go over the drink driving limit.

13 May 2006 20:37

The Green Man, Ingrave

Beer was more than drinkable. Plenty of space. Piped music a little loud.

13 May 2006 20:35

The Old Dog, Herongate

Food & beer were excellent, but got the impression it was a restaurant first & a pub second.

13 May 2006 20:34

The Boars Head, Herongate

Beer fine, but a very dark pub

13 May 2006 20:33

The Grove Tavern, South Wimbledon

Not the pub it was more than 10 years ago, particularly the beer. Dreadful fizzy bitter, but then most lager heads cant taste anything so won't care. However, the music policy remains good & reason alone to go.

16 Apr 2006 17:51

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Now has a full bank of four TT handpumps, although only two on yesterday. Once they paint the peeling ceiling, this pub will almost be faultless.

16 Apr 2006 17:46

The British Pilot, Allhallows

Not a pub for beer lovers, keg only. However, an architectural gem. Appears to have many fittings from when the pub was built, including three separate rooms. One of which is the old off licence. Toilet floor mosaic also looks 70 years old.

16 Apr 2006 17:43

The Grapes, Sutton

Bizzare beer pricing structure - The Newcastle Brown seems to be the cheapest option, particularly compared elsewhere

3 Feb 2006 12:45

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

TT Landlord was very good & the food was fine for a chain (Nichollson's) pub. The interior should make this a must for anyone visiting a pub in London.

As for the smoking policy, if you don't like it, then go outside. It makes the pub a far better place for the majority.

3 Feb 2006 12:15

The Victory, Sutton

Pub now closed & boarded up in the last couple of weeks. Only sold keg beer anyway so won't be missed.

3 Feb 2006 12:07

The Golden Lion, Putney Bridge

Packed before & after Fulham games, but always friendly. Well run pub by landlady (Ann). Bitter (ie Real) not always on, suspect demand issues.

Worth popping in about two/three hours after the game when it empties a bit & you get entertained by the Fulham drunks.

The legend that is BIG CLIFFY DEAN has been sighted here.

16 Jan 2006 13:04

The Spotted Horse, Putney

Go here on Fulham games. Bitter always good, service OK. Manager prefers egg chasers to our national game. Food wise, the pizzas are the best value for money.

16 Jan 2006 12:57

The Coat and Badge, Putney

Beer good, but beware short measures & expensive. Bar staff complained about me having my coat on the floor by my stool!

16 Jan 2006 12:55

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

An oasis in a sea of Putney yuppiedom, particularly when Fulham are at home. Timothy Taylers excellent. Bar staff very helpful & pleasant.
