The Thomas Sheraton, Stockton On Tees

The beer quality is fantastic, what a difference a good manager can make-local CAMRA pub of the year, can't argue with that.

The Boathouse Inn, Wylam

Definitely in my top 10 pubs of all time, fantastic place, fantastic beer, brilliant location.Easy to get to by train & a good mix of people, couldn't be better.

The Stockton Arms Hotel, Hartburn

forgot to say, they got 'done' for under-age selling 3 times....

The Stockton Arms Hotel, Hartburn

Yeah,right!
The pub 'went down like a drunk' & finally, after being caught under-age selling','shut for refurbishment',the licencees appearing in the local rag, blaming the council. The bottom line is that its a ghastly pub for ghastly people.

The Parkwood, Hartburn

all the above reviews were trying to wind me up.Buffoons.God rot your socks.....Meanwhile,Eric rules OK

Well,SBG,I think that you'r off your head. You actually remind me of the sick pervy who lives next door.Which is your misfortune, believe me.

The Masham, Stockton On Tees

The Barstaff & the Locals,or,in this case, the Yokels, all add ,or otherwise detract, from the ambience of a pub.

So you think that Eric is useless? or what do you mean?

The Sun Inn, Stockton On Tees

Drastically improved!--My brother[a renown imbiber]reckons that the beer is better than its ever been.I can't fault his judgement. It's XL'nt.All we need to do is get rid of the smooth-flow rubbish & the lager, then it's reputation will be restored. The pub is back in the 'Good Beer Guide'for 2008............says it all.

The Boathouse Inn, Wylam

At last -a'proper pub'!-busy,bustling,friendly plus wonderful beer,no background music or TV.It was also nice to see the beer priced by strength. As said before, beer heaven.

The Beer quality HAS 'gone down like a drunk'.The excuse'it takes a lot of looking after' was trotted out.bah.

The Stockton Arms Hotel, Hartburn

On my first visit for 6 months I was served a pint of Timothy Taylors which was undrinkably bad.Won't go back.

The Parkwood, Hartburn

Eric, the host was away & the beer quality dived downhill then recovered once he had returned.Truly he is a beer god.

After some 'inside information',apparently the pub needs a lot of work done. The cooling system is 'on it's last legs',[which explains the variable beer quality].The work is going to be done[alledgedly]-the sooner the better as the 'regelars'are getting unhappy. One day this week it did'nt open until 12.00.,leaving lots of annoyed people outside. The barmans response was 'so what?'Apparently no-one lives 'on-site' & the place seems to be 'going down the nick'slowly but surely.Deeply sad.

Talpore, Stockton on Tees

TRULY GHASTLY.Worse since cask ale removed, not that it was well kept, anyway.Factory food at high prices-a high price canteen with pretensions.

Dun Cow Inn, Sedgefield

Much better now it's smoke free but last night the sevice was appalling. It took 13 minutes to get served when the bar was'nt particularly busy. The staff all looked miserable & all started scowling when one disgruntled punter asked 'has Happy Harry been in tonight?'.They seemed to deliberately keep people waiting, maybe they were on a'go-slow'?.The beer, when I eventually got it was excellent though.

The Pot and Glass, Eaglescliffe

Superbly kept ales,nice food,nice staff,everything a bit moreish,unfortunately!

28 Jun 2007 21:40

The Shipwrights Hotel, North Hylton

Extremely disappointed,'mine host'refused us some gravy as we had only ordered from the'2meals for'menu!also he demanded that a couple leave because they had brought a pushchair in''health & safety'' he barked.Won't go back.

The Victoria Hotel, Durham

Pub par excellence, beer par excellence.Mike Amos,of the Northern Echo named it as 'the best pub in tne north east' & he was dead right.

25 May 2007 20:38

The Masham, Stockton On Tees

Beer is very well kept. The barmaids are usually beautiful. The 'locals'can be fairly hilarious, having the usual mind-set of people who only ever visit 1 pub.The relatively large garden area gets'rammed to the rafters'in the summer.

26 Apr 2007 15:55

The Stockton Arms Hotel, Hartburn

Wearying,TV's,quiz machines, fruit machines--way way too chavvy, particularly for Hartburn.A lot of the older regulars have gravitated to the other 2 pubs in Hartburn.A dispiriting experience.

The Victoria, Saltburn by the Sea

Good pub.Excellent cask ale, friendly locals, good bands on a thurs & sunday.A later train home would be nice!

17 Apr 2007 19:57

The Thomas Sheraton, Stockton On Tees

I used to find a visit to the TS very dispiriting but over the last 9 months ,or so,the beer quality has dramatically improved,so much so,I can hardly believe it!--whats responsible? a new manager?-whatever the reason, its a good result.Feel sorry for the hard worked(short)staff(ed)situation. They deserve better.

The Sun Inn, Stockton On Tees

As a sun worshipper for 30 years,I must admit to feeling a tad uneasy about its present incarnation. The beer quality is extremely variable, when its on form its excellent, but when its not,its awful. The 'bankers'are now stored in a fridge which I've never seen before & often the beer is too cold, which suggests that its to hide something i.e.,taste.There seem to be cellar problems, but no-one there is saying much.Regulars tend to vote with their feet & some dissapear for weeks on end.Get well soon.

17 Apr 2007 12:46

The Three Cranes Inn, York

A nice surprise--I've always avoided it as I thought it would be a typical city centre tourist trap-how wrong can I be?The beer was excellent & everyone was friendly.I was highly amused by how many people walked in,looked round then walked out again, obviously making the same mistake that I did!As I said,a nice surprise.

16 Apr 2007 16:46

Dun Cow Inn, Sedgefield

The cask ale is usually well kept but I find that you either get served straight away or wait 10 minutes!--the staff, all extremely pleasant, seem to vanish before your eyes, but I suppose its usual in a busy hotel resteraunt & bar.Smoke can be a problem, roll on July.

16 Apr 2007 16:32

The Parkwood, Hartburn

Nice old building originally residence of local shipbuilding family. Now has cask marque accreditation, the beers expertly kept by genial host,Eric. The food is good, there is a large seating area outside and as a bonus,in my eyes anyway, there is no TV or music playing,a rarity nowadays.Altogether a gem and always a pleasure to visit.
