The Shipwright's Hotel enjoys a fabulous location along a dead-end road and overlooking the Wear. But whilst it has plenty of promise, it fails to deliver. There are no longer any real ales. The keg selection was Birra Moretti, Guinness, Rekorderlig Strawberry & Lime, Carling, Carling Cider, Coors Light, Worthingtons Creamflow, John Smiths & Caffreys. The clientele looked a bit rough and ready for a scrap. There are a couple of rooms, with one reserved for diners. No sign of any on my visit though. Staff were friendly enough.

Myself and my fiancee Emily Fiona and the kids Larry and Peter visited last saturday, I can honestly say that we received the biggest portions we have ever seen in our lives. I was severally challenged

Totally amazing.

They even cooked a special curry for Peter and they keep a well kept pint.

Fantastic experience would love to go every day. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, highly recommended.

Claims it's the oldest pub in Sunderland. It's also the most miserable. Landlord is a sour misery guts with a Herod complex and the social skills of POW camp guard. Shame because it's a good location but there's plenty better nearby.

What a lovely pub... I came about the pub by chance when I had a meeting with a client. We had a wonderful lunch and no disruption to our meeting. I Went back a few days later with my husband for dinner and again the food was great and service was excellent. Very tidy pub as it had also just had new carpets fitted and was in the process of being painted - thinking of going back to have a go in the thursday nite quiz as I was talking to the quiz master at the bar who was lovely and very funny!!
