The Gatehouse, Highgate

Excellent Spoons. Lovely theatre upstairs. Pay a visit.

27 Sep 2015 18:07

The Prince Alfred, Maida Vale

Currently boarded up but fortunately only for ceiling repairs.

25 Apr 2015 12:57

The Lexington, Kings Cross

Great place to see a band upstairs but the pub itself is desperate. Expect an epic wait to be served. No-One has explained 'use your discetion' to the doorman. I was asked for ID last week. I'm 58.

28 Jan 2015 18:19

The Black Lion, Bayswater

Spent most of my time in here from 1975-1985. Closed for ever earlier this month.

28 Jan 2015 18:09

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

Diet Pepsi please. Draft. Came in a pint glass. Five pounds ten please. No, how much really?Five pounds ten. Ludicrous

11 Dec 2014 20:55

The Betsey Trotwood, Clerkenwell

Great little pub. The downstairs venue is tiny but the sound is absolutely superd. Lovely place.

29 Nov 2014 02:21

Dirty South, Lee

Closed down.

2 Aug 2013 07:08

The Trinity Arms, Brixton

I used to in there after playing football at Ferndale Road., at least 25 years ago. From the reviews it appears to have changed little. That is a compliment.

28 Mar 2011 08:39

The Railway, Blackheath

I completely agree with race-faster. I live in Blackheath but now drink in Cutty Sark Wetherspoons as it is the only place you can get a decent pint at a decent price.

25 Feb 2011 10:43

MacKinnon's, Glasgow

Agree with the previous posters. Friedly pub at 08:30. Not at all what I expected.

31 Jan 2011 14:28

The Crown, Blackheath

Maybe I've just been unlucky with the beer. The Crown is currently boarded up for a refurbishment. Due to reopen around Easter.

20 Jan 2011 11:07

The Jugged Hare, Pimlico

A couple of years ago I wrote that the ESB was exceptional. I popped in last week and the ESB was at lager temperature. Not a good sign!

12 Oct 2010 13:02

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

I had intended trying the Old Naval College but at north of four quid for a pint I think I'll give it a miss. At the moment the Gate Clock is doing an excellent cider (Old Rascal) for 1.95.

8 Sep 2010 11:46

Terriers, High Wycombe

See below. I went in again yesterday and the crazy golf has gone !!

2 Aug 2010 11:29

Rutland Arms, Hammersmith

I struggle with the comments about poor service. This was Hoople-Central during the Mott the Hoople reunion gigs at the Odeon last October. Scores of MtH fans from all over the world descended on this pub for five nights last October and I have not seen a single criticism of beer or service on the Ian Hunter website. Great times.

2 Jul 2010 13:10

O'Neills, Blackheath

Got to agree with MSE12. I thought I was alone in thinking kids should be banned from pubs , but obviously not.

11 May 2010 08:25

The Crown, Blackheath

Seems a bit more welcoming than it used to. Berr still pretty crap.

11 May 2010 08:22

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

Staff all speak perfect English. Better than a lot of the British customers. It is not remotely rough. (Can't speak for the late evening as I'm never there).

11 May 2010 08:20

The Briar Rose, Birmingham

I stayed here at the weekend. Excellent accommodation and the pub was very good.

15 Feb 2010 11:06

Terriers, High Wycombe

Popped in for a pint on Sunday lunchtime. Seemed pleasnt enough. Only two other customers. Must be unique in having a nine-hole crazy golf course out back.

8 Feb 2010 16:45

The Churchill Arms, Kensington

Popped in on Friday afternoon for a couple as I was in the vicinity. Good ESB. 3.30 seems expensive but probably standard for the area. I used to use this pub a lot. I was even at the opening night of the Thai restaurant. I would guess that was in about 87 but it could have been a couple of years later. As a pub it has gradually been swamped by the Thai restaurant. Gerry, the landlord, has been there since the early 80s when he moved from the Drayton Arms.

11 May 2009 12:34

The Wat Tyler, Kidbrooke

Main claim to fame was in late 70s/early 80s as Garry Bushell's local and unofficial HQ of the Oi movement.

5 May 2009 13:55

O'Neills, Blackheath

This is one of the better pubs in Blackheath (not saying much). Not sure how big a market for Gaelic Games there is in Blackheath. This O'Neills definitely makes rugby the priority. There were a lot of Irish in on Saturday for the Munster v Leinster match.

5 May 2009 13:49

The Sydney Arms, Lewisham

Imagine having to go to a pub whose custom comes from high rises or council estates. Nrj746, you are an idiot. It's a couple of years since I've been in here but it was never grim, threatening or unwelcome.

24 Mar 2009 07:56

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

If you rate a pub by whether or not you can use chip & pin you really shouldn't be allowed to drink.

24 Feb 2009 12:43

Hubbub Cafe Bar, Canning Town

Cosy. Completely different to the pubs up the road at Canary Wharf and West India Quay. No real ale.

5 Dec 2008 11:20

Wellesley, Waterloo

As station bars go this is a good one.

1 Oct 2008 14:43

The Watch House, Lewisham

I think the idea that Wetherspoons sell beer that is at its sell-by date is an urban myth. This is a pretty standard Wetherspoons.

30 Sep 2008 14:54

The Old Tiger's Head, Lee

I watched the Chelsea v Man Utd game here yesterday. Two large screen (picture sharper in the music room). Best free nibbles I've ever seen in pub. Good atmosphere. Recommend it for watching football.

22 Sep 2008 11:15

The Buckingham Arms, Westminster

I have to take issue with the previous post about beer quality. On my last two visits the Special was rancid.

19 Sep 2008 13:04

The Jugged Hare, Pimlico

I've only been in here twice and the ESB has been exceptional both times. This is a lovely pub in an area full of hellholes.

19 Sep 2008 13:02

The Mitre, Paddington

I used to use this pub in the mid-70s. It had a fantastic cellar bar. I guess that is no more.

19 Sep 2008 12:42

The Spanish Galleon, Greenwich

I sometimes pop in when waiting for a takeaway from the noodle house opposite. Has anyone else noticed it always seems to smell of piss?

12 Sep 2008 14:09

The Ship, Isle of Dogs

Passed on the bus yesterday. Closed and boarded up.

12 Sep 2008 14:03

The City Pride, Isle of Dogs

Good compared to the rest of the pubs in the area but very ordinary when compared to normal places. Aboit to demolished and be the site for yet another tower (62 storeys)

10 Sep 2008 15:08

The Ledger Building, Canary Wharf

Fairly typical Spoons but without the shouty people. It does arrract the braying City Boys but is by far the best pub on West India Quay.

10 Sep 2008 15:06

The Paternoster, City Of London

I've been in about six times over the last two years. Jaw-droppingly pricey. 3.60 for a pint of Strongbow! My mate got his bag nicked in here last night.

9 Sep 2008 13:23

The Edmund Halley, Lee

I've posted about this pub before. I agree with abcdef. This is a Wetherspoons. You know roughly what it's going to be like. If your criterion for judging a pub is how far the bog is from your seat you should probably stay home.

18 Apr 2008 13:19

The Warrington Hotel, Maida Vale

I was in The warrington on Friday night and the barstaff said it would be closing for three months as of last Sunday. Most of the work is being done upstairs but downstairs is 'being returned to its former glory'. If it was once better than it was it must have been absolutely perfect !!

10 Oct 2007 16:11

The Kings Head, Bayswater

This pubs unique selling point used to be chess ! They re were always people playing and they even had pro competitions. (Mid70s till at least early 90s.)

3 Oct 2007 12:53

The Bayswater Arms, Bayswater

In the mid-70s this was the Duke of Edinburgh. It was then Benteys then What the Papers Say (or something similar). It was crap anyway.

3 Oct 2007 12:51

Counting House, Glasgow

A cut above the usual Wetherspoons. Brilliant location.

24 Sep 2007 11:57

The Crow Tavern, Bishopbriggs

Busy locals' pub.

24 Sep 2007 11:56

Dirty South, Lee

Marky Ramone & Mani are DJing next month.

30 May 2007 14:32

The Bankers Draft, Eltham

Very small for a Wetherspoons. Cheap & cheerful.

30 May 2007 14:20

The Bag O' Nails, Victoria

The Bag'o'Nails Paul & Linda met in was a club in the West End.

23 May 2007 12:14

The Redan, Westbourne Grove

The only pub I ever got barred from. Certainly didn't have an upstairs then.

1 May 2007 13:16

The Prince Alfred, Bayswater

This was The Ducks & Drakes until the late 70s

1 May 2007 13:15

The Phoenix, Bayswater

This was originally The Moscow Arms

1 May 2007 13:14

Champion, Notting Hill

This was a gay bar from at least the mid-70s onwards

1 May 2007 13:13

The Old Swan, Notting Hill

No happy memories of this place. I got glassed here on Queens Silver Jubilee Weekend.

1 May 2007 13:11

The Hillgate, Notting Hill Gate

This used to be called The Johnston Arms until the late-70s

1 May 2007 13:10

The Prince Albert, Notting Hill

In the mid-70s this was an Irish pub with Celtic posters plastered all over the place.

1 May 2007 13:07

Gate, Notting Hill

Judging by the map theis is the former Devonshire Arms. It used to have an upstairs bar with a cracking jukebox (mid-70s)

1 May 2007 13:06

O'Neills, Blackheath

Watched a lot of the 6Nations here. great atmosphere. Can get a bit raucous when football's on. You wouldn't want to here on weekend evenings if you're over 25. Good grub. Steaff helpful.

30 Apr 2007 12:06

The Cross Keys, Hammersmith

Haven't been in here for years but the reviews suggest little has changed. Used it a lot when I lived in the area in 81. Fabulous pub. Went back a few times in the early 90s and it was still brilliant. Sounds like it still is.

30 Apr 2007 11:48

The Rochester Castle, Stoke Newington

Presumably this is the same Rochester Castle which was part of the gig circuit in the heyday of punk. I saw Tubeway Army support The Lurkers there and also The Cortinas, The Subs and The Jolt (I think).

30 Apr 2007 11:45

The Black Lion, Bayswater

Practically lived in this pub in the 70s & 80s. Great days.

12 Mar 2007 13:42

The Porchester, Royal Oak

In the 70s this pub was called the Railway Tap and was covered in railway memorabilia. Beer was crap though.

18 Oct 2006 12:47

The Edmund Halley, Lee

Not nearly as bad as the reviews suggest. What do people expect? It's a Wetherspoons. In Lee Green. Not Hoxton. It's cheap and cheerful if a little smoky.

18 Oct 2006 12:36

Indigo Yard, Edinburgh

I went in a few times when it opened in 96. Doesn't sound as if it's changed much.

16 Jun 2006 10:38

Zero Degrees, Blackheath

The Raspberry and Mango beers are excellent but sadly haven't beemn abvailable the last few timees I've been in. Great pizzas.

16 Jun 2006 10:28

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

Unbelievably smoky. Not enjoyable.
