Nice corner pub with big windows. Food was OK. Was there 22/02/15 and the toilets look to be fixed. They smell of talcum powder!

we visited this pub on 14/4/14 and i remembered when it used to be my local in the early 80s. well its nothing like it used to be, mores the pitty! the mens toilet was in a semi state of repair and there was no toilet paper ( i have a big hang-up about toilets with no paper, it means they don't care about their customers) the two women who were running the pub were more concerned about putting things on the wall than serving....a free tip to all governors of pubs....do improvements in your time not when customers come in for a drink and have to put up with tapping and drilling and other associated noise. drinks were ok but expensive when you consider what a toilet roll costs.

Notably friendly welcome. Four ales, the Hogs Back TEA was v good. Rises well above the usually dreary "Original Pub Co" corporate offerings.

A useless piece of info about this pub:

For any Jim Diamond or PHD fans this was the pub used in the video for the 1981 UK hit " I won't let you down " by PHD (Jim Diamond lead vocal)

Still looks the same today....

Quite an imposing corner pub with a traditional appearance, and inside it is quite airy with high ceilings and a fairly sparse arrangment of furniture. Upstairs, there is a large-ish dining room (although this didn't seem to be in use when we visited). Beer-wise, the are four handpumps but two were for London Pride, the Deuchars IPA was off and the guest ale clip was covered over with a 'Sold Out' sign. Hopefully this next bit isn't typical, but while the first pints of Pride were fine, one of our group saw the barman trying to pour slops from the drip tray into his glass (which was, of course, refused and a fresh pint was poured without too much fuss, but still shouldn't have happened in any pub - let alone one with Cask Marque accreditation).
