The Cherry Tree Inn, Ticehurst

Well, well, a pleasant surprise awaited us on visiting the Cherry Tree recently. Not only new signs, better outside lighting and facilities, but a total makeover inside, which has provided more space and a lighter brighter interior. The New tenants have modernised the pub to the latest 'in colours', given it an interesting menu, which proved to be of a high standard. Cheerful staff and a young feel all made it an enjoyable visit. We've already been back!

The Bell Hotel, Ticehurst

getting better by the minute. It now focuses on truely local beers and suppliers, giving a refreshing choice for draft ales. Great atmosphere and food portions improved

The Bell Hotel, Ticehurst

Lovely atmosphere, trendy but traditional interiors, helpful staff. Food good, but not excellent and portions on the small side for the cost (e.g. Burger and Chips £13.95 and you only get 10 chips - but they are 'triple' fried). Beers are well kept and their signature 'Pam's' pint is good. Nice to have a focal point in the village that wants to be at the heart of the community.

The White Hart, Lymington

This pub offers a friendly atomsphere and a good selection of pub grub at reasonable prices, albeit not a gastro pub, it doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. Beers were limited in choice though.

The Vineyard, Lamberhurst

Top grub in a gastro pub that lends itself more to being a restaurant rather than country Inn. Prices are fairly high, but the menu varied and food cooked to a high standard. The wine menu offered some good choices too.

The Bull Inn, Ticehurst

Wow, what a fantastic Sunday roast! A good hearty meal, generous in size, served on a hot plate by helful and friendly staff. Add that to the pub's charm (beams, open fireplaces, good beer and countryside location) and we will definately be back....

The Dumb Bell, Chalfont St Peter

This pub has certainly moved on from where it was a few years back. It now offers a variety of ales, which are well kept and boasts homemade food using fresh ingredients. I was certainly satisfied with my meal and thought it was very reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

The White Hart, Whitechapel

Only visited once, but thought it had bags of character and friendly staff. The beers were well kept and food, although standard pub fayre was good, not excellent. Worth a visit.

Red Lion, Cropredy

Ok, this is the quinisential english country pub with thached roof, canal a feww yards away, church opposite....get the picture? I;ve popped in here a couple of times whilst visiting friends and havefound the staff on both occassions to be friendly and cheerful. The beers are weel kept and various visiting ales are on sale. there is a garden at the rear, toilets are clean. Nice pub, will be back.

Red Bar and Lounge, Dorking

Tucked away up a side road, but although unassuming in appearance, it is delightful, with a modern feel inside, cool background music, a really nice decked area outside, all complimented by friendly staff and well kept beers. The food looks good in passing and the menu offers a mixture of traditional meals as well as some unusual twists, but to be fair I haven't actually eaten there myself yet, so is only my visual assumption, worth a visit as it's great to relax in, as long as your not after an olde worlde country inn, which, of course, it isn't. Nice place.

The Abergavenny Arms Hotel, Frant

Passed this pub many times and been impressed by the well maintained exterior and menu boards. We actually got round to stopping off for a Sunday late afternoon meal. The interior was just as well maintained, with a friendly warm feel to it. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The food menu offered a wide variety of both light and full meals; we both opted for the open steak sandwich and homemade chips. After a rather long wait of 50 mins (we were assured, apologetically, that it is not their normal waiting time) the food arrived and was very good indeed. I will definately return as both the staff, food, ambiance and toilets were great.

The Bull Inn, Ticehurst

Currently being restored and expanded with accomodation. Sounds very promising and hopefully will be open mid 2011. Looking forward to trying it out.

The Chequers Inn, Ticehurst

Traditional old pub used by locals. Log fire, sports TV, beers well kept. Traditional opening times.

The Cherry Tree Inn, Ticehurst

Great pub, good food, well kept beers and friendly staff. Worth a visit.

The Ship Inn, East Grinstead

A good local pub, which I'm pleased to say is having a facelift with new paint to smaten it's exterior!

The Griffin Inn, Chipping Warden

The pub has changed hands again, but the standards are still good. The restaurant offers a variety of food and the service was efficient. A roaring log fire welcomes in the winter and there is comfortable seating and a good size car park.

Red Lion, Cropredy

Quaint well kept thatched pub, nicely furnished with comfortable lounge, restaurant and bar areas. Serves a limited range of real ales. Food looked good although I didn't eat at the pub myself. Small, nice beer garden, limited parking. Definately geared up for the canal holiday makers and tourists, which isn't a bad comment as that demands a higher standard to compete. Well worth a visit. Toilet marks: 7/10.

The Vine Hotel, Goudhurst

Currently under refurbishment, due to reopen end of July 2010

The Star and Eagle Hotel, Goudhurst

Olde worlde charm, friendly staff and lovely views over the countryside at the back. We popped in for a quick drink and stayed for Tapas, which was excellent. Clean toilets too, so impressed.

The Dorset Arms, East Grinstead

New owners and a makeover has turned this tired old pub into a more modern 'open plan' high street bar / restaurant. Menu looks mostly standard fayre, but boasts local produce. Worth a try. Beers were ok. I'd go back there. Good size car park at the rear.

The Bull, Otford

Great pub, loads of atmosphere and character, well maintained and the all important test - clean toilets. The food was good and the Directors ale well kept. I enjoyed the quiz night, my first visit to this pub. The landlady and staff were really friendly, even though we didn't win! Good sized car park, but tight for parking on busy nights by looks of it. There is another car park opposite though. Recommend a visit.

The Dolphin, Haywards Heath

Nice pub. Friendly staff and good food. The menu was varied and tempting, service was good on my visit, which was on a hot summer's day (yes, we did have one!). Ample parking and plenty of table space inside and out.

The Station Hotel, South Nutfield

This could be such a good pub. It's spacious, in the middle of the community and near the station for those popping in moments. Beers are ok, staff are friendly, it has a nice garden and play area. All the things to make it great. Sadly though, it desperately needs a furnishings makeover to show its potential and needs to offer good food to make it more attractive so people will think of it for an evening out. Good music venue on a Saturday night though.

29 Jun 2010 13:48

The White Horse, Steyning

A modern gastro pub. Very nice, very relaxing, clean and well kept. Food and drink will match the setting, but then its worth it.

29 Jun 2010 13:40

The Queens Head, West Chiltington

This is a nice large pub. Friendly management and staff, good ales, good food, although be patient, it can take a while to arrive after ordering. But then, why worry, we just relaxed and enjoyed the roaring log fire and chesterfield wing back chairs! They have events lists on each table, both for the pub and local community. There's a decent size restaurant and a car park out the back.

29 Jun 2010 13:37

The Plough, Dormansland

A lovely pub, great atmosphere, tasteful decorated with a warm feel. Beers were good, especially the Harveys. Pub menu was standard offering, but with the odd twist, plus they do Thai food. You can buy eggs and other local fayre there too. I visited on a Thursday and it was busy. Friendly staff made my first visit a pleasant one.

29 Jun 2010 13:32

The Ship Inn, East Grinstead

This is one of my favourite pubs and although it's just a standard victorian pub without any pretensions it has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good beers and food and a great open fire in the winter months (gave shoppers an excuse to gather there when it was snowing). It offers quiz nights and has live music on Saturdays, good value Sunday roasts.

29 Jun 2010 13:28

The Prince of Wales, Reigate

Visited this pub for the first time last night. It's clean and nicely decorated in deep reds and creams, with a log fire and candles on the tables. The beers were well maintained and the coffee was a generous mug full, at a reasonable price. It's seems a really nice pub, albeit in a light industrial part of Reigate and my vivist was on a quiet night. I'll be back....

The Market Hotel, Reigate

Boring, souless place that fails to invite. Beers are ok but nothing special on the pumps.

3 Feb 2008 19:28

The Station Hotel, South Nutfield

Standard Victorian type of pub. Beers are ok. Good music venue for Saturday nights.

3 Feb 2008 19:23

The Elephant and Castle, West Chiltington

Traditional pub with log fire, albeit not in the restaurant, which was cold to sit in. The food is basic pub fare, very generous helpings, that even I struggled to manage. Friendly helpful staff and well kept Harvey's beer.

3 Feb 2008 19:21

The Coach and Horses, Danehill

My first visit on Sunday proved to be a most enjoyable experience. Very friendly staff, excellent food (being Sunday we both had roasts, my wife had the Beef and I had slow roasted Pork Belly).Superb, accompanied by perfectly cooked vegatables. Beers are kept well too. Prices are typical gastro pub - not cheap, but you get the quality and quantity. The pub has nice country views and a decent sized car park too. I'll be back for more :-)

The Kings Arms, Dorking

Great pub for live music on a Sunday night.

23 Dec 2007 18:11

The Fox And Hounds, South Godstone

I love this pub and have been visiting it on and off for the last 30 years (makes me feel old!) The staff are great and the atmosphere welcoming. Love the pub dog. This is about a near to a good traditional country pub as you can get.

23 Dec 2007 18:08

The Skimmington Castle, Reigate Heath

i was very impressed with my first visit to this pub, the staff were very welcoming and actually noticed me. The pub atmosphere was good and the beer well kept. I didn't eat, but the food i saw being served seemed of average fare, with generous helpings. I'll be back!

23 Dec 2007 18:03

The Plough & Attic Rooms, Rusper

A nice little country pub, full of character; low beams, inglenook fireplace etc., plus a good array of specialist beers. I've popped in here a few times now and enjoyed each occasion. Seems a friendly little pub.
