You exit from a thick wooded area into the picturesque village area of West Chiltington. The pub has a number of inside areas that felt a little too modern. There are also some outdoor areas - a children's play garden next to the car park and a walled courtyard, where we sat. Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter is the regular ale. The guest beer was Sharp's Doom Bar. But, they did also have Weston's Old Rosie cider. The young barman was good enough to point out that it was 7%. Although, I did correct this statement to 7.3%, having consumed a fair amount previously! But, the bar staff were certainly friendly and chatty.

Visited this Pub today, appalling standard of food. Two course meal for 15.00 advertised as Roast Beef, Pork or Chicken was given a pork chop and piece of steak..... so send one back and for the mushroom starter....it was served with 2 pieces of dry bread with a tiny piece of goats cheese. An Aunt Bessie roast meal would be better value. We refused to pay for one meal. Will never revisit.

My cycling club visited this pub on 1 April for lunch. On a previous visit to plan the ride, I had had a fairly inexpensive pizza, but on this occasion I was told the pizzas were not available - only the rather expensive 2 and 3 course meals were. (2 courses for 15). However we later spotted a man at the bar eating a pizza, and on being challenged about this, the staff admitted that the pizzas were available after all - but by then it was too late; we had ordered the expensive meals. We visit a fair number of country pubs on our fortnightly rides, and know what sort of thing to expect. This place didn't come up to scratch. We won't be visiting again.

From December 2011 this pub has new owners and a new chef. The owners are a family of 3 generations and are working at making the pub a family pub. The new chef is wonderful and makes the most delicious deserts. I love the comfy atmosphere and especially the fire in the evenings :-)

Fond memories of visiting here for the bar billiards (none now, sadly).
