After a couple of recent visits I'd say it has definitely improved. OK the beer choice is pretty run of the mill, but it's well kept and the food is well above par, and good portions too. I'll go back.

Gave it the benefit of the doubt after it was taken over recently. However the beer is mostly off when it hasn't runout. , it takes about 15 mins to get served with mostly no acknowledgement of your presence. The great. bands, which was such a boon locally and a draw from miles around, will possibly die a death since they are not advertised, the band name is on the back of the blackboard in unreadable sized font. The general poor communications, for example no wine list, no band list/flyers , unclear food serving times mean it is hard to know where this is heading. As an example one local who lives no more than 80 yards away never even knew the pub had re-opened for two weeks. Shame since it's an important local resource.

I realise the last post was in 2011, but I have to say when I visited this pub the landlord was anything but unfriendly, maybe it is a different one ? I quite liked this place, good old-fashioned boozer, nothing pretentious, and a good range of beers on offer.

Go to this pub purely for the music which generally are good bluesy bands. The beer is generally ok and the bar staff friendly.

HOWEVER the landlord rarely raises a smile, hello or hows yer father. Possibly the most miserable man I've encountered in all my born years. Which is all fairly odd when you think that his job is mainly interacting with the public.

Ironically therefore this place is a 'Must See' purely for the spectacle of being served by someone so devoid of humour and bon ami, Perhaps he is having the last laugh ??

The sort of pub I quite like, a bit tatty, bare wood floors, in the past would have been called a "spit & sawdust" place. Really nice pints of London pride and Fullers Red fox on, also had Youngs but I didn't try that. Cheap & cheerful menu, most meals around 5.
