This pub was the best place to be in the 1990s!! The pub first opened in 1993 as Rothwells and soon after changed it's name to Route 66 you were never charged to get in and management Mark Sharret Miss Billy and the gang were always happy to see you and serve you it was home to some of the Best looking Barmaids on the gay scene including Racheal Andrea and many others over the years. In 1998 it closed for refurb and for legal reasons could no longer retain the name route 66 .. Reopening as Route 2 Xmas 1998 was well received still a busy in place to be on a Fri and Sat night and various drinks promotions in the week including slash and the
Pink pound Thursdays 2 entry on door and all drinks 1 all night in 1999 -2000 the pub changed management and things slowly began to change with door fees from 2-4 pound even on a standard night with no promos... Into the naughties the pub continued on it downward spiral changing hands several times.. The smoking ban in 2007 was a final nail in the coffin for route I believe with nowhere to cater for it's smoking customers apart from Kent st corner getting soaked thru in the rain and sometimes almost being recharged on the door to regain entry it's no wonder people started looking elsewhere for a night out... And now it is closed and has been almost a year :( it is such a shame I feel this place could b buzzing again with the right tlc and thought I stumbled on this site surfing for the letting price lol it will always be a winner of the 1990s bham gay scene!!! I'm sure anyone who visited bk then will agree ... It would b a dream come true to take a pub like route on and succesfully make it work god bless u route 66 Rip gone but never forgotten xxx

CLOSED was a good pub when open but recently closed.

Awful! Bar service is slow, seem to prefer talking than doing their job. The dancefloor below dj smells rank and the door men/women have no clue. Would rather go to the Gale for extra few quid.

Beyond awful gay bar that exploits the pink pound (God, I HATE that expression)to the hilt.Avoid.
