Gastro-do to death. Was one of the grungiest and most revolting boozers In town when I were a lad. Made you glad to be alive. Wouldn’t touch it nowadays though. Not a single long haired geek throwing beer at you when you walk in. Where’s the fun gone? Can’t even mark it. No longer a real pub so 1/10 Jay28 - 3 Jan 2023 19:10 |

Agree with some of the comments here, seems that its a over priced pub grub type place with no real atmosphere, unless there is a band the sun shines etc. Overpriced, overated, not a pub IMHO. I_like_a_pub - 13 Oct 2013 20:18 |
Don't be fooled by the pub sign and the sign that says this building belongs to "Chelmer Pubs". This is not a pub and if you have the audacity to treat it as such & go in just for a drink, expect to be banished to the draughty marquee attached to the side, with the gawdy, soft red lighting, as were when asked where we could sit. Unless the one table available to non-diners is free Tried the Guinness and the Old Golden Hen and both were awful A snippet of all that is wrong with pubs in this day and age johnwarkstache - 18 Feb 2013 13:46 |
Re-Opened. Been a couple of times .Refurshed to a very high standard. If you expecting it to be anything close to the old Bay Horse then you will be very surprised. Its clearly now a gastro pub and less a drinking establishment (like it was well known for before) obviously a lot of money has been spent renovating and updating and it works well. Food was great too, there were 16 of us and everyone enjoyed their dishes. Staff were professional and friendly. Food was very reasonable priced (15 for 2 courses) great selection of wines too. There is also a very nice outdoor decking area now too. The strangest thing about this pub is the Fruit Machine that is still there next to the bar area, which look and feels out of place!
