No complaints about the service though possibly because it wasnt very busy last saturday afternoon when I was there. The quietest Weatherspoons Ive been in. But if Im going to be charged 3.98 for two pints of 49er then Im staying for the long haul and Jeez it was a long haul. Apologies to anyone who may have been affected by my drunken behaviour, although I dont remember doing anything too outrageous

I went to Prince Arthur 30th March 2011 at 1.30pm with a friend and my son. my son had a half day from school and thought it would be nice to have lunch at the Prince Arthur. I mentioned to the staff that my son was with me would that be ok. However the member of staff wasn not overjoyed by my sons presence and said we could stay for a couple of drinks (soft) as we are dining in. I had already noticed the sign on the door so was aware that we needed to order food. The frostiness of the Duty manager was so apparent that we decided not to eat their but go to the Oatsheaf instead. I am not sure why we received such a reception. My son was well behaved for a change!! In fact there were a group of Mums with young babys who were all crying and although there level of wailing did begin to become noticable it was not mentioned. i have visited this pub in the evening and have always found it ok. Let's try another time, we as adults just wanted to chat and spend time together.

A good Wetherspoons pub. Sell alot of ales and I've always found them in good nick. All in all not bad

A reasonable wetherspoons. Cheap enough beer.
Passing_By - 11 Jul 2010 07:17
Decent beer selection but variable quality. I suppose you get what you pay for, i'd sooner not bother. Poor service , luke warm food you need to be desperate to use this place. A poor pub in a poor town for pubs

Cheap Beer, terrible service.....Fleet is a poorer place with the PA on the High Street
Huw628 - 23 Jun 2009 06:27
Bog standard Wetherspoon's. OK, cheap, ale drinkable, but just feels a bit tatty and downmarket.

I was pleasantly surprised by a visit on Saturday. Hadn't been there in ages as it got really quite awful for a time, but we were after cheap grub. How it's changed! No hoardes of tracksuit clad chavs swearing! Quite quiet in fact. Cute barmaid who joked with all the customers at the bar, really friendly and happy-go-lucky. Quick service. Good real ale. Good (and more importantly cheap!) food which turned up in ten minutes flat.

So I think I may give Spoonies another chance.

Whoever has taken over from Chris & Stacy hasn't made any improvement in terms of cleanliness. If your idea of a great pub is the one with the cheapest beer then the Arthur is for you.
paddymiguel - 1 Apr 2008 16:29
Just to let everyone know I have just heard that Chris (pub manager) and Stacy (shift manager)(husband and wife) are leaving the Prince Arthur to go to Cornwall. All the best guys you will be missed

Just to weigh in on BroSilvest's side, it's just
such a shame that a place can let itself down on something so simple. Must admit to judging places a bit on general cleanliness (what are the toilets like, soap?). Tables that are sticky are a cardinal sin in my view. We have all seen it and it just makes you think, nah.

Has got tatty & in need of another refurb- sign of its popularity more than anything. Next refurb really needs to lighten the place up - it's too dingy. Also suffers from the usual Fleet staffing shortage, although the team there really do a sterling job in what must be pretty difficult circumstances - 6 deep at the bar on a Friday night. Good rotating selection of ales, usually well kept.

We have about 17 local pubs at which we can go for a proper lunch. We have tried them all, and have ended up voting The Prince Arthur in Fleet as our top favourite. They score on price, quality, choice (and a decent bottle of wine at a reasonable rate). Unfortunately, we have noticed recently that the tables are becoming 'sticky'. On requesting a wipe-over last time, the reason for the trouble became obvious. The cloth used to clean up left the table stickier than ever - not exactly a good scheme. Will we have to face up and request a cleaner wipe next time? Hope not.

Basically like any other wetherspoons. But with the additional plus side of having some unusual ales. Also games machines to play on add to the fun

Great prices and always a laid back atmosphere, always the starting point for an evening out. The no music policy lets the place down a little unfortunately, but it is ideal for those that want to just have a drink and a chat.
Dr.Headache.Rushing - 7 Jul 2006 14:52
Gone down recently since they removed the door staff, so tends to overfill with teeny drinkers and those looking for a cheap drink before going onto other bars/Jaxx.

Good place to start the night or meet up due to sheer size, but lack of music will always be a no-no later on when people inevitably start heading off.

Staff friendly but never enough of them.

I think this place is the best to go for a drink with your friends its cheep staf are nice good place for a night out of drinking! the ID thing is over the top big time i am 20 next year they ID me 5 times in one night and every time i go in one of the staf even said "have i Id you before" i said "yep 3 times!" and its the most sick food i have ever had in my life the food is cheep cold when it comes out takes along time as well i only had two meals in that because my friends made me i think they need to have a revew of the food there its that bad i am sorry! but over all its a good night out good pub!!

My local at the weekend always understaffed n the workers seem to be weighed down with trying to serve a huge pissed crowd and clearing the tables. The drinks are cheap which i love and they serve Reef which is an all time fave for me, however i still cant get over the day i was id'd not only do i drink there every weekend but i was buying a pint of pepsi the girl who id'd me was rude about it saying i looked very young and shouldn't be promoting myself to look 15 when i was 20...i say fair play to me for looking younger but apart from her...a good fri/sat night pre-club pub!
K3RR1 - 14 May 2006 21:45
I don't normally go to pubs like this these days (country dweller) but I went to this pub back in Feb on a Saturday night. Massive queues at the bar. Quite noisy. Decent idf not amazing beer. It was understaffed in the bar (or so it appeared) so they were stressed but polite and hardworking.
kingdingaling - 27 Mar 2006 16:38
Theres an awful lot of negativity here, how's about not just slating the pub but adding an improvement or something you would like to see in the place, it got in the Camra real ale guide for doing something right after all!! I cant say that I miss the skaterboi's or the "canadian?" bar man!
anonymous - 2 Mar 2006 20:52
Utter dump. It pains me that people still frequent such establishments.
Cidermaster - 21 Feb 2006 10:27
This pub does have an extensive selection of beers to choose from which sadly is the only positive thing I can say about this place. The negative being are the morons on weekends and familys with annoying kiddies in the afternoons.
yorts - 16 Feb 2006 14:36
i don't really understand the skaterboi comment, the guy who you refer to is called mike, he has left wetherspoons now and works for costa. so same service, just with coffee.

as for the prince arthur itself? i find the staff disagreeable and the management egotistical, but thats not my place.
andy_oatsheaf - 24 Feb 2005 14:11
Pub has changed a bit since i last went in when made original posting - now agree with Dan... full of non trendy people... wonder were the Skataboi's went?
splodger - 19 Dec 2004 00:00
Further to OJ's comment- it's not remotely trendy. Cheap, however, being a wetherspoons. Gets very busy from Thursday to Saturday nights, often about 4 deep at the bar. My pub of choice on quieter nights simply due to being a tight wad. Often pulls in the old soaks & that big bloke in the disabled scooter. Also loud mouthed children. Good guinness. Excellent range of real ales- several guest ales. Cheap. Big non smoking section- bad for me, may suit people who find it an offensive habit! Small outdoor heated terrace at back, few tables outside in front. Excellent (Canadian?) barman who really knows his booze & remembers customers' drink preferences- always a good thing. Cannot really recommend the food. For cheap food go across the road to Hogshead, where it's all under two quid at the moment.
Dan - 1 Sep 2004 12:42
Trendy Wetherspoons, frequented by the Skaterboi fraternaty and people who want to be SEEN
