please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Decent enough pub with an impressive range on tap beyond the ubiquitous usual suspects. You can waste the bar staffs time but asking them to talk through the full range and then go "I'll just have a Fosters" but that is reprehensible behaviour.

Been in here twice in the last month, both times for midweek footy. Has had a recent revamp. Not a massive fan of the new decor, but the staff were friendly enough and a decent point of Timothy Taylor and Theakson's old Peculiar.

One major gripe though, the main TV is located in such a place that the only place you can watch it properly from is from behind the bar. Still its nearer to home than the Partridge which doesn't have Sky and I don't fancy ever chancing the Hop & Grape which is even nearer.

Agree with previous comment about The Swan needing a good clean as it is a little grimy but would say that when I have been in here recently the beer has been fine and the food not bad at all - found the staff to be attentive as well. A little bit of love is needed

It’s more than 10 years since I’ve been in here but during a walk past last Friday evening it looked like it’s on it’s last legs.

I may be wrong and it may have been the wrong time of the evening as this side of Bromley is seriously in need of a cash injection…it kind of seems sorry for itself.

lezford - 23 Dec 2014 15:45

ok but could do with a good clean.

The place has seen better days and the decor is past it's best

Beer seems ok, outside area with pool table, food cheap and sort of edable to a point.

Very friendly atmosphere and great evening entertainment on Monday and Tuesday nights.. Could do with some more "nights".

Some of the staff are very friendly and helpful, others can be moody at times but you can't blame them with some of the customers attitudes sometimes.

Great place to come if you want a brilliant night out in Bromley. In the day time you can get a lot of chavs in there, but come sun down they're all gone.

Great alternative pub, easily the best in Bromley, especially when compared to the others which claim to be non mainstream or even against those which aren't filled with chavs.

Great atmosphere very clean and great service

This used to be our weekly friday pub lunch and table football pub but sad to say the place has changed owners and gone down hill. The food has got worse (im surprised that was possible) and they got rid of the table football (replaced with a broken arcade machine). The staff are terrible making mistakes on orders, dilivery of food to the wrong tables and generally behaving like a drip. I have no reason to ever go back.

I am sad to say this pub has gone right down hill in the last few years ever since matt left, the beer has got shit but on the plus side the food is outstanding and cheap as well got a good chef called john. Fred who is the worst part of the pub lazy man, drinks behind the bar dont give a shit all he ever does is slag people off. June is 1 of the highlights of the pub she runs things very well nothing bad to say about her. But the sad news is someone died on saturday the 31st of october due to four guys smashing hes head in. What i would of done as a manger is kick the guy who was making the trouble in the 1st place not kick the four guys out for them wait for him. Now there has been several fights during the week in this pub, due to this all pubs in bromley were shut down for the night. This pub should of been shut down for a least 24 hours so the police sed.

One of the better places Bromley has to offer- pool table/outdoor terrace/jukebox/games machine/decent music ... only thing lacking is the quality of the beer and when I have drank here I've had to resort to spirits after the first one

Good pub, good atmosphere and the food is good! Large beer
garden and friendly staff, never any trouble.
Dopemonger - 4 Sep 2009 17:10
Not a pub to go to if you want a decent pint, beer is absolutely crap in here! Pretty decent atmosphere though, and a large beer garden for us outcast smokers to enjoy. Would only eat in here if I was feeling suicidal, I have seen the chef's hygiene standards, which are third world standards!

A good atmosphere on a Friday or Saturday night though, and seems to be free of the many chavs who frequent Bromley, one of the better places to have a drink

Really not too sure what to say - this place obviously has a loyal local following, seeming to be mainly spotty teenage goths mixing with middle aged deep purple/nirvana/quo crowd and methadone dole queuers. Wierd mix, but very laid back and everyone seems to have a good time.
Friendly enough, beer not the best and a my Stella was flat.... Tatty and timewarped inetrior held up with joist props - but hey its different, albeit not everyone's cuppa. Food menu seems to be 4 years oldm and has been gently soaked in several pints of beer, and does not inspire the urge to order anything to eat, judging by it's cover. Rock on guys, but I think I'll leave you to it.

I still miss the days of Rock Matrix on a Tuesday.

can some one please enlighten me on who this horrible little woman is please ???????
anonymous - 30 Mar 2008 11:57
I think that I know the strange little woman that Driver mentioned in an earlier post and if it IS the same person, they have split up now! I went in here on the off-chance that it had improved, but no .... Low ceilings and bad atmosphere. Ugh.
spexx - 23 Mar 2008 15:49
Have been coming here for about 6 years but won't be any longer - the management changed about 9 months ago & the new landlord/landlady duo that run the pub are just rude! I asked for a little bit more mixer in my drink & they refused saying that the mixer were done by exact measures & if I wanted a dash more I'd have to pay for another measure. I thought this was a little strange, but when I said I just wanted a bit more cos you've put so much lime in it, it they basically told me if I didn't like it I could f**k off. (He didn't exactly use that language, but may have well have done to reflect how angry he was getting with me). Also have enjoyed the past 4 xmas eves there, but the one just gone (oh coincidence, under the new management) was dire.
monkey109 - 21 Feb 2008 09:49
Much better now under passionate ownership, good food from my experiences, nice mixture of trendy / bohemian / older crowd. full of banter and friendly staff,

Cheap beer but horrible athmosphere with a strange little woman who when she isnt arguing and fist fighting with her ex shes moaning about him. Wont be going there again.
driver - 23 Jan 2008 11:53
been going in this pub for about ten years now and the staff problem still hasnt changed slow service (except lucy) and to many of them think they are the manager after working there for a couple of weeks bad beer even worse food and full of pikies now
tom98 - 22 Nov 2007 17:15
Now looking much fresher after re-opening following redecoration - you can see the colours in the carpet! Still good value and friendly staff, a nice place for a summer afternoon drink.
bromleyjon - 11 Aug 2007 10:04
this pub used to be the best pub in bromley....
get rid of the landlord and hire someone who gives a shit about his pub!
anonymous - 7 Feb 2007 18:54
The Swan and Mitre is great, the staff are always friendly, there is never any trouble, and the atmosphere is great. There are no chav's in there either so its number one.

I paid a visit to The Swan And Mitre about four months ago after hearing that it had more of an alternative feel to the more modern bars in the area. I wasnt in here for too long, but in all honesty, I wasnt THAT impressed. My beer was served completely warm and I found the pub to be a little uncomfortable. Part of the reason I didnt stay long was because I just couldnt settle. It took an absolute age to get served too. Not bad, but I dont know if Id visit again when next in the area.

One of the pubs I feel more comfortable in in Bromley. More laid back clientele and some decent ales. Only been in here a handful of times, but and nearly always felt at home there, although back in the days when I drank stella I did find it to be very potent! Might just have been me though! Only downer was the toilets, but that's a minor qualm in what I've found to be one of the nicer pubs in Bromley.
man_of_kent - 11 Apr 2006 13:20
This pub does exactly what it says on the tin. Music usually very good, bar staff are the best team in Bromley due to their excellent relationship and low turnover. The bar is clean, the toilets less so. The garden isn't the most attractive, but has a great chatty atmosphere due to the sharing of benches.

Absolutely never any trouble, only the occasional chav, whom the staff are happy to chuck out. Great drinks prices. The manager is probably the only let down as he's rude and spends most of his life upstairs sulking, whilst his team carry the responsibility of running the pub.

Rock night is sadly dead, but the music selection from the customers ensures that it partly lives on. Customers are mixed, but mainly a blend of rock/indie type young and old with working professionals from nearby offices.

It's probably the only honest drinking "pub" in Bromley town centre now.
juliatheakston - 31 Jul 2005 17:03
The landlord is a bit moody he keeps barring people. He should otherwise concentrate on sorting out the toilets...
MissLilac - 11 Jul 2005 13:58
Definately the best pub in Bromley! The service is excellent, drinks are cheap and the food is great! Always a good atmosphere and 98% of the people are friendly. Not sure what I'd do without it?
Stu - 21 Aug 2004 16:29
Rock Night on Tuesdays does seem to feature a wide range of Rock styles. The best thing is to get your requests in early or buy the DJs drinks ;-)
Friendly atmosphere and smiley bar staff. Good range of shots and spirits.
Ben Anderson - 16 Aug 2004 15:01
Definitely the best pub in Bromley as it lacks the Pikey Burberry wearers that seem to multiply week after week in the rest of town. With friendly staff, good food and cheap drinks Sunday to Thursday you can't go wrong with spending the night here. When Summer calls it also has a large beer garden which draws large less friendly crowds as well as the regulars.
Bob - 8 Apr 2004 11:02
They have a rock night on Tuesdays. I went along expecting to hear some Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath but it was more modern so called rock, disappointing. The staff were very slow and i didn't feel very welcome. I have drunk in worse places but i wouldn't go out of my way to visit this pub again.
Peter - 27 Mar 2004 16:33
What has happened here the staff appear to be asleep moste of the time an it is full of the teenie element not for the mature drinker.
Bert - 21 Mar 2004 20:40
One of the only pubs in Bromley i would drink in.

Used to be a quiet little pub, till the Firkin shut and all the kids started to go there. Now its
Gets very busy on a Friday and Saturday, so if you have a spare half an hour you can wait at the bar to be sereved, by the bar staff who have trouble seeing people, right in front of them wanting to buy a drink.
That said, it is one of the only pubs in Bromley I would suggest anyone to visit, unless they wanted to look a the missing links of evolution in place like the Bell and the Weatherspoons.
marcus - 17 Jan 2004 17:05
Bromley's attempt at an "alternative" pub although you'll probably only notice on Thursdays, which are the busiest nights. It's a little on the small side and can get very smoky but there's always a good atmosphere and a nice line in barmaids. It's a Burberry and Townie-free zone, which should automatically qualify it as the best pub in Bromley...
