Drove past today and the place is just a derelict car park.

Such a nice part of Devon (just!)

Any news as I have heard it may be rebuilt soon.

Yet another fire in the last couple of days. Arson again, just to make sure and finish off what was started in July

Closed following a fire. The most recent owner (since 2015) evidently failed in his quest to revive this pub, so did a bunk, after which it "mysteriously caught fire". Fire service believe the fire was started deliberately;standard insurance scam.
The building is now structurly unstabe and will probably be demolished and not rebuilt

Dull, listless and unmotivated barstaff, probably reacting to the actively rude landlord. Enquiry about local beers met with unjustified invective about how awful they all are (patently not true as a pint in any decent Devon pub would show). Unappealing position and design of place not helped by the worst service possible.

Dull, old-fashioned pub with boring, common ales on the bar. Nothing particularly local, which is suprising given the number of great local brewies in Wellington and Wilveliscombe.

Nice enough pub, mostly given over to dining, but still a pub too. Beers fine, nothing exceptional but perfectly drinkable. Plenty of pump clips stuck on the walls around the bar, which the CAMRA folks always take a being a sign of a good pub, but it was just ordinary

How can you give any other score but zero for a pub that cant be bothered to stay open on a sunny afternoon

not impressed !!
My pint of Otter Head was barely threequarters full.
I asked politely for it to be topped up and was fed some rubbish about
it being designed to be drunk through a large head.
The attitute of the barman was patronising to say the least.
Although our main meals were okay, the portions were tiny and the veg
was limited and uninspiring.
One of the countys most overated pubs, wont be back in a hurry.

We went for a meal a couple of weekends ago on a Friday night. The food here always used to be fantastic and we used to come here 4 of 5 times a year but this time we were really disappointed and we won't be coming back. My french onion soup tasted of hot water, no seasoning at all and was practically see through. The mushroom starter also lacked taste. My chicken curry as a main course didn't taste of anything. The only course that was good, was the steak.
We were very disappointed.

Booked a table for a minimum of five with 'Ben' for New Year's day lunch over the telephone. Unsure of numbers at time of booking, I was told 'no problem, confirm exact numbers on the morning'. Confirmed three more to party on the morning. 'Peter', took the call, and said they didn't think they could cope, just saying 'they would try their best'. I referred to the booking with Ben, but Peter claimed that Ben was a junior member of staff, and that he, as owner, had the final say. I asked Peter to check with Ben, and heard 'Peter' shout across the pub to Ben about 'this Hall character' (my name) and Ben confirm the arrangement he had made with me. 'Peter' remained indignant and aloof, so we went somehwere more customer focused (try the Hartnoll Hotel!). No issue with Ben, but 'Peter' needs to go on a customer awareness course.‎

Fantastic pub! Mainly an eating pub so either book ahead or hope that there is space in the evening. Good selection of local ales and very friendly and efficient staff. Cozy warm traditional country pub feel with nice clientele and great lounge area.
Good variety on the menu with alternating specials, all local produce cooked by very competent chef.
I recommend this place to all visiting friends as an essential visit!

Excellent foody pub. Ale & cider well kept & the food was fantastic. Really pleased friends who've moved close to this place recommended it & took us there. Looking forward to our next visit so we can go to this pub again!

We were in here the other day, still a good place for a meal and a variety of ales.

We had lunch here sometime ago and it was delicious and in a great setting. I have no idea what the evenings are like.
