please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The incident refered to below was a "family" disagreement and a one off - to say there are fights weekly is outrageous. This happens to be a very relaxed pub with good food and nice beer, the staff are friendly and the management more than capable. Like most town pubs in the country the clientel change at the weekends late at night and its a younger, drink driven crowd that come out. This pub is well worth a visit whatever the occasion and any time of day.

Avoid....fights in this venue are a weekly occurance. Latest one 8 arrested for affray, GBH and someone sent to hospital.

3 handpumps all turned round, so opted 4 a pricey pint of peroni. Definately go to The Regent(JDW) if u want good value and decent ale. 5/10

Quite a nice pub as it goes, made a visit a couple of weeks ago and had a couple of decent pints of Pride, not too expensive at 2.90 a go and a nice relaxing atmosphere at the front, with screens and a pool table at the back.

Apparently re-opening tonight, after a re-furb and apparent price restructuring.

I wasnt impressed with this place at all, it looks good but the staff and service doesnt follow through from the look! Two girlfriends and I went in for brunch one day and ordered Eggs Benedict, the food was not well presented at all and was cold - then when we complained all the Manager did was say sorry, not convincingly at all either, he didnt offer a discount or anything, very unimpressed! Also the drinks just took too long and we had to ask the staff to take away our empty glasses and plates!

V good bar, pleasent staff and cosy atmosphere. An awesome team. might want to point out though to all the "so much better since slug the guys have turned the place around". it is pretty much the same group of guys. so stop jumping on the chain pubs are rubbish band wagon and actually go there!

Popped in last week during football night and again on Saturday!
Pleasantly suprised on football night! No chavs...just likeable people.
Staff were helpful, food was good. Drinks were slightly on the high side but I expected that from a upmarket restaurant/bar.
On Saturday...wow! Door staff very friendly, non threatening!
Staff (who were different) very nice abd courteous!
Place was full and everyone was chatty! Non chavvy! Very likeable place.

Its a lot better thyan Slug & Lettuce! Management have really turned it around. Has a good wine list and a sorted food menu! Best place in town.

Much better now theres not so many youngsters in there. Nice service, staff remember you, can be a bit clicky at times, but just ignore that. Much better than it was when it was the Slug.

No longer the "Slug and Lettuce" now called "The Vine", it was closed for a refurbishment for a few weeks last year, this only seems to have consisted of a lick of paint and some new light fittings above the bar, and some new tables and chairs (there may be more "behind the scenes" changes but that's not what the punters notice). They missed a good opportunity to change the layout around a bit.

Layout and service is much and such as it was before, reasonable food and the drinks are what you'd expect in this type of high street bar, good selection but not if you're a "real" ale or beer drinker.

Crowd seems to have gotten "older", it may be due an over 21 policy but I'm not sure on that, but there was a pleasant lack of "chavs" or under age drinkers which used to be a present here before the changes.

Not a bad place to spend an evening especially if you're not into "proper pubs" i.e. The George or The Wellington (good pubs but you sometimes like a change on a Friday/Saturday night).

Advertised in the local press recently that they were now open until 01:00hrs on Friday and Saturday, we arranged to meet friends there to enjoy this longer evening only to find out that it was still 23:30hrs, obviously the PR dept got it all wrong there! Maybe an opening hours sign in the window would help clarify matters! It was either that or the Staff/Overhead costs outweighed the inconvenience of the customers expectations!

But again it's a decent enough place to spend an evening.
