Plough, Farnham

Anybody that's visited the Plough in its previous incarnation would struggle to recognise the place now !

It may well have served its purpose as a student bar in the past but the changes from the extensive refurb will be welcomed by most (probably mostly the neighbours).

Gone is the dark, dingy and slightly strange interior, replaced by fresh decor and bright lighting (maybe a touch bright for some but dimmers on the way apparently).

There was a good selection of beers on tap (Red, Bishops Finger), well kept, tried a lager - Orangeboom, good crisp refreshing pint. Prices much and such as the other pubs in the area, Sheperd Neame now above the door so the standard should be good.

Food wasn't on when I visited as they had only just opened the doors and there was still work to do in the kitchen, look forward to trying out when they are up and running.

New landlord and landlady where very friendly and made and effort to welcome all that came through the door, wee pub dog also a friendly chap.

Pool table looked new (didn't play) and music can be requested at the bar and if they have it they will stick it on.

didnt venture out into the garden as not a smoker and its winter, but there was a heated covered area that was busy the entire time I was in there and the garden seemed quite extensive with lots of seating so should be good for long summer days/evenings

Will definitely call again, and it may well become a regular stop off.

Well worth a nosey if your familar with the place from before to see the changes.

The Vine, Walton on Thames

No longer the "Slug and Lettuce" now called "The Vine", it was closed for a refurbishment for a few weeks last year, this only seems to have consisted of a lick of paint and some new light fittings above the bar, and some new tables and chairs (there may be more "behind the scenes" changes but that's not what the punters notice). They missed a good opportunity to change the layout around a bit.

Layout and service is much and such as it was before, reasonable food and the drinks are what you'd expect in this type of high street bar, good selection but not if you're a "real" ale or beer drinker.

Crowd seems to have gotten "older", it may be due an over 21 policy but I'm not sure on that, but there was a pleasant lack of "chavs" or under age drinkers which used to be a present here before the changes.

Not a bad place to spend an evening especially if you're not into "proper pubs" i.e. The George or The Wellington (good pubs but you sometimes like a change on a Friday/Saturday night).

Advertised in the local press recently that they were now open until 01:00hrs on Friday and Saturday, we arranged to meet friends there to enjoy this longer evening only to find out that it was still 23:30hrs, obviously the PR dept got it all wrong there! Maybe an opening hours sign in the window would help clarify matters! It was either that or the Staff/Overhead costs outweighed the inconvenience of the customers expectations!

But again it's a decent enough place to spend an evening.

The George Inn, Walton on Thames

Very good local pub, can get a bit smokey but not too bad, pool table and darts with tellys for the footie too.

Good food and beer.

Friendly atmosphere, you'd be hard pushed to find any better in Walton

Also later opening hours now with the new drinking regulations, which can only be a bonus.
