My wife and I plus 2 friends went to the Millstream for the first time on Saturday night 16th July 2011. Nice quiet location with ample safe off road parking. We had booked a table for 8:30pm. The Menu was not exstensive but more than adequate. We were directed to our table and left for quite a while before anyone took our order. There was some difficulty in producing the starters ordered as they had run out of several items and re-ordering was required. It was gone 10pm before the main courses had arrived and then only after our waitress had come to take our sweet order and was shocked to hear that we had not yet received our Main Courses. All the food was well presented and of excellent flavour but the Crispy Duck starters were not crispy but rather tough and hard to chew. As for the main course one of our friends had Sausage and Mash, again excellent flavour but the amount of Mash was so miniscule our waitress should have advised us to order a side dish of Mash too. Had we have done that would have made it the most expensive Sausage and Mash ever at over 17 for two sausages and and Mash with a little gravy. When asked by our waitress was everything OK? and I informed her of our disappointment, she made no comment whatsoever, just took the payment. I feel that this venue has great potential but it seemed to be lacking a leader on this ocassion and I could not recommend it to my friends and have the confidence that this might have been a one off. In short, nice place great potential with the right leadership, great flavours, cooking process not as great as I was expecting.

The old Millstream provided the sort of food we like (unusual in pubs), a warm welcome and good service. We popped into the now renamed Triple Crown a few days ago, took one look (it doesn't take long) at the very basic and limited menu and decided it wasn't for us. Shame. Another unusual pub dumbed down.

NOW CALLED THE TRIPLE CROWN. Rename presumably related to new landlords, sporting theme reflected in photos on the walls. Quick lunchtime pint (hungry but driving ); good pint of Henry's, excellent sandwich, not on the menu, but chef very co-operative. Also available: 6X, Horizon.

Speaking as a former employee of the dreaded landlady, I am really quite surprised that The MIllstream has any good reviews at all.

Yes the place looks great, but trust me, appearances can be very very deceptive. In the 7 months I worked at the Millstream, I had the pleasure of meeting (albeit briefly) no fewer than 8 chefs of varying quality. This meant that the food was at times superb and at others diabolical. Never consistent but always outrageously over-priced. The reason for this incredible turnover of chefs is due to.... that's right..... The landlady. 2 out of the 8 even walked out in the middle of service they were that disgusted with her treatment of them.

In addition, it always felt to me that she was trying to con as much money out of the customers as possible. For example offering them a small platter of bread and olives to nibble whilst they perused the menu, failing to mention that she would charge them 3 each for the pleasure!

The waiting staff, kitchen staff and barstaff were all top- notch and I couldn't find fault in them at all. The only problem is the pretentious, overbearing and at times truly psychotic landlady. Maybe she should take a step back and let her excellent staff run it for her.

I feel that I must write and let people know about my visit to the Millstream in an attempt to warn others not to bother, learn from my mistake!
The pub was practically empty on a lovely summers Sunday lunch time...a bit odd I thought...or maybe not once I'd had the full Millstream 'experience'. What I'd ordered hadn't been on the menu but the assuming landlady had obveously already placed me on her 'customer type' scale and had guessed what I wanted to order. It wasn't what I or my friend particulary wanted but after a quick look over the very expensive menu we thought it to be a better option...until the amount was rang up on the till and I nearly fell over. So over priced, in fact I think the prices were made up! I was too shocked to say anything and thought that the food must be exceptional so worth it. Don't be fooled, it was below average!

Oh...and don't order anything not exactly as it states on the menu as not to 'upset the chef...you know what they are like'......??

I was taken a back by the whole experience, I felt hurried (for no reason, the place was empty), ripped off and still pretty hungry when I left. It's such a shame that in such a lovely village the local pub can't be utilised as it should, I certainly won't be revisiting in a hurry!

expensive and poorly prepared food. Appallingly kept beer. Dreadful service. Everything that is bad about a pub can be found here. If you know your beer and like your food then its worth finding somewhere else in the area - - Kings Arms at All Cannings or the Wiltshire Yeoman are both nearby and are far better in every way

Expensive! Examples, Beer and Ale Pie with chips = 11.50 (no vegetables they were extra, 3.95 to be exact!)
Unfortuntely this gastro-pub is overpriced for what it is and the service, to be blunt was unacceptable.
Whilst eating in the restaurant, they allowed a table of 6 to bring in 3 dogs with them! Totally wrong to allow dogs into an establishment where food is being served. P.S. They were not guide dogs!
Final insult I paid 12.95 for a tiny glass of champagne! The prices for champagne by the glass are not prominently displayed. The Ivy in London only charges 11.50 for a champagne cocktail! This is Wiltshire not central London.
Overpriced, nothing special, better places to eat out. We shall not be returning!

Went back to the Millstream as planned this Easter, in fact twice. Even better. Delicious kipper mousse starter. Excellent roast on the Sunday - if a bit pricey. Really tasty pork loin on the Tuesday night and another in the party had very fresh fish and chips from the bar menu with home made tartare sauce. Pint of Wadworths 6X was well kept - nice wine list too particularly the Chilean Cab Sauv. Argentine Shiraz sdly sold out. Local Yellow Pages has a clip out coupon for a free bottle of house red if four diners eat Tues-Thurs. Wonderful dining room and garden. Not surprised if the locals are priced out of here - these are London prices but it made us holidayers very happy. They even gave us a lift home so driver could relax and have a drink!

The food here is extremely expensive, the service is awful and the beer is appalling. Locals don't go here - it's known locally as the Abomination. Mainly catering for holiday makers and holiday home owners. Truly one to avoid

Visited The Millstream last week. Wow! Fantastic food cooked by a great new chef. Big portions of good, wholesome food. Prices have come down and are now cheaper than other pubs in the area. Very good value for money and as usual, great service by happy and obliging staff.

Go there..... you'll love it

went here for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago, very impressed!, probably the best pub lunch I've had in a while, from the moment we arrived the service was informative and polite, food was served in a reasonable time, and even got a bonus piece of christmas cake.
will definately be back.

I'm very surprised to read these reviews. We spent a week at a nearby rented cottage in Wilsford during May 2008 and had dinner twice at the Millstream - both times were excellent. We have booked another week at the cottage this Easter (2009) and plan to have a meal at the Millstream again - in fact it's one of the main reasons why we'll be returning to this lovely part of Wiltshire. We found the landlady very welcoming and professional, the surroundings enchanting and the food excellent - particularly the grey mullet starter which we have tried to copy at home. We have two children - aged 12 and 10 - who also enjoyed their visit. We very much look forward to our next visit. It would get 10/10 if the steak was slightly less fatty - but that's how picky we are.

Yet again a most fantastic meal! Late sunday, great beer, great food and fantastic service wish a few more pubs in the area would make such effort!

Took my family for a meal last Saturday. Waited over 30 minutes for order to be taken and then has been there for over an 1 hour 45 minutes for main course to be served.

Given price, food was a disgrace. Told landlady that we would finish meal if I was given 20 off price, which would have been in excess of 100. She said the fodd was wonderful, so we walked out and refused to pay.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
gary2 - 1 Oct 2008 14:35
Wadworth's have now kept her on - so usual advice applies- Avoid this place like the plague!
Wiltsman - 13 Aug 2008 09:29
Shame the other comments have gone but anyway Wadworths have deservedly sacked the landlady (proves the previous comments were right).
The pub itself is still a wine bar first and foremost - hope the new tennants can give it some character as a pub - at least they can't make it worse
Wiltsman - 29 Apr 2008 18:36
I also notice that all of the comments previously posted on here have dissapeared - how strange!!

I have visited this pub a couple of times and have always found it to be very poor. The over priced food is mediocre at best, and the extremely odd (and pushy)landlady does the place no favours. I really would not bother with this place - get a new landlady and I will try again, but not before, she really is not very pleasant and her character seems to have overwhelmed what could otherwise be a lovely village pub - what a shame.
Zim - 3 Apr 2008 12:45
Not your average local but has suffered from some very average staff recently! Really well cared for beer and some of the best Lamb Faggots I can remember tasting in a long time. Hope the landlady has it right now as this is a delightful space to while away a few stolen hours. They even let dogs in the bar, brilliant!
